A must-have for iron attributes! Iron stamps of the "Yamanashi Kotsu Tram Line," which is still loved 60 years after its closure, are now on sale at Kofu Station!
The current unprecedented boom in iron seals has led to the creation of iron seals for trains on various regional lines, and many collectors are said to exist. Although iron seals are usually sold for active local railroad lines, iron seals for the "Yamanashi Kotsu Tram Line," which has long since been discontinued, are sold at Kofu Station.
The "Yamanashi Kotsu Tram Line" started in 1924 when the Kofu Tram Track Company was founded by Mr. Munenosuke Kanamaru.
In January 1929, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at Gongcheon Station, and in April of the same year, new trains were delivered and the company changed its name to Yamanashi Electric Railway Co. The line was partially opened in May 1930, and later in 1932, it was put into service in front of Kofu Station, making it possible to operate the entire line.
In 1938, the company was relaunched as Kosai Electric Railway Company, but in 1945, due to the postwar integration of transportation systems, it was taken over as Yamanashi Kotsu Co. The line continued to operate despite the air raid in Kofu and two typhoons in 1959, but was finally closed in June 1962 due to the spread of automobiles.
The Yamanashi Kotsu Tram Line is a train line that has endured many hardships. Because of the hardships and damage, this train line was also affectionately called "rag-dollars" by the locals.
Because the line has such deep roots in the local community, it is still loved by many people as a train of local memories, even 60 years after the line was closed down.
Mr. Masahide Amamiya, President of Yamanashi Kotsu Co., Ltd. has been aware of the local people's unwavering love for the Boro-den, and in 2020, he erected a monument to the former Yamanashi Kotsu train line at the site of Gonggawa Station, and in 2022, a monument in front of Kofu Station. Next to the monument, as is typical for a bus operator, there is a vending machine wrapped with a route bus and an express bus.
The vending machine sells Boro-den's iron seal, which is well chilled and sold in a bottle. The product, sold in a bottle, contains not only the iron seal but also a replica of a ticket from that era, making many people nostalgic for those days.
The set includes an iron seal stamped with the company emblem of Yamanashi Electric Railway and Yamanashi Kotsu when the railroad was in operation, and a replica of a ticket from that time, and is sold for 400 yen (tax included).
In 2022, the Shingen-ko Festival is scheduled to be held for three days from October 28 for the first time in three years to honor Takeda Shingen. Why not take this opportunity to visit Kofu and reminisce about the old railroad?
