Star Ocean 6 THE DIVINE FORCE" Preliminary Play Review by a Series Newbie The 25th anniversary edition of the space opera RPG "Star Ocean" series!

Suddenly, "I want to play a big RPG with gusto!" I sometimes get such a desire when I play action games or online games. I sometimes get such a desire when playing action games or online competitive games, and this time I would like to introduce "Star Ocean 6: The Divine Force," a title perfect for such gamers.

The game is available for PS5, PS4, Xbox, and Steam, but this review is based on the PS4 version. Please keep this in mind.

When the two protagonists meet, the story begins to move. ......

Star Ocean 6: The Divine Force " is the 25th anniversary edition of the Star Ocean RPG series by Square Enix and tri-Ace. The Star Ocean series has a long and popular history, with the first title released in 1996, five numbered titles, one Gaiden title, and one smartphone title to date. The previous title, "Star Ocean 5," was released in the same year. The previous title "Star Ocean 5" was released in 2016, making this the latest numbered title after a six-year absence. For fans of the series, this is a much-anticipated title.

I mentioned the Star Ocean series on ......, but I am ashamed to say that although I knew the name of the series, I had never touched it until I played "Star Ocean 6". Star Ocean 6". In other words, I am a "Star Ocean newbie," but as it turns out, even I enjoyed "Star Ocean 6" very much. I even thought to myself, "If it is this much fun, I wish I had touched the series earlier! I wish I had touched the series sooner.

This article is a review from the perspective of a "first-time Star Ocean series player," so please keep in mind that I cannot make comparisons with previous titles in the series.

Now, I am sorry to begin this review as a newcomer to the series, but the Star Ocean series is characterized by the fact that each title is independent of the others, even though they all share the same worldview and setting. In fact, thanks to this feature, I was able to smoothly get into the story of "Star Ocean 6" and immerse myself in it.

The two main characters in the game are "Raymond Lawrence," captain of the transport ship Edas, and "Leticia Auxidius," princess of the Auxidius Kingdom on the fourth planet of the Aster system, an undeveloped planet. The game uses a "double hero" system in which the player chooses one of the two protagonists at the start of the game. The author chose the princess Letitia to start the game.

The game takes place in the galaxy in the year 583 of the stardate. The story begins when Raymond is attacked by the Astoria, the battle ship of the Kenny family, one of the most prestigious families in the Galactic Federation, and crash-lands on the fourth planet of the Astor system, an undeveloped planet where Letitia lives. Letitia asks for Raymond's help to save her country from a crisis, and Raymond cooperates with Letitia on the condition that he find his missing friends who are supposed to have crash-landed on the same planet.

Raymond comes from outer space and Letitia lives on a planet. The two are from completely different cultures and lifestyles, and their fate begins to change when they meet. This is a story that could only be told in the Star Ocean series, which is characterized by its "fusion of science fiction and fantasy.

Following the story, I would like to introduce the characters in depth.

First is Raymond, one of the main characters. He is the captain of a transport ship, and has a friendly and generous personality. He is compassionate, willing to take on reckless challenges for the sake of his friends, and, for better or worse, he has a personality that does not care about the difference in status between him and his opponents. In general, Raymond is a very likable and pleasant character, and I suspect that many players will become more and more captivated by his personality as they progress through the game. Incidentally, Raymond is not a member of the Galactic Federation and is therefore not bound by the Convention for the Protection of Undiscovered Planets. Fans who are familiar with the world of the Star Ocean series may think, "Oh, I see, that's how it works.

Raymond Lawrence, captain of the transport ship Edas.

On the other hand, the other main character, Letitia, is a princess of the Kingdom of Auxidius. Although she is a royal, she is clad in armor and bravely wields twin swords, knocking down enemies one after another with her cheerful and bold personality. She is a bright and bold character. She left her own country with only one follower, Abelardo, and set off on a secret journey in search of a certain person, and although she may seem like a tomboyish princess when you cut that part out, she is not. Her straightforward personality, combined with her cute visuals, will surely create many fans among the players.

Leticia Auxidius, princess of the Kingdom of Auxidius

The sub-characters, whose presence and charm are as strong as those of the two main characters, are also indispensable to the story of this work.

Letitia's squire, Abelardo, is a knight with strong loyalty to Letitia and a childhood friend who grew up with her. He is a man of both literary and military prowess, skilled in both the physical arts of manipulating chakrams and the rithm of manipulating magical powers.

Abelard Bergholm, a knight in Letitia's service.

Elena is a crew member of the transport ship Edas, captained by Raymond.
She is trusted by the crew and Raymond for her vast knowledge and cool, calm demeanor. The interaction between Elena and Raymond is one of the highlights of the film.

Elena, a crew member of the transport ship Edas

Nina is a rishoujutsuka girl who manipulates the healing power of shiseirijutsu.
She is cheerful, naive, and curious, and sometimes makes mistakes in the heat of the moment, but her headlong drive and strong will to help her patients attracts the hearts of those around her. Her cute appearance, which is different from Letitia's, also helps to make her a character that is sure to have many fans.

Nina Deforges, a girl who manipulates the art of "therapeutic physiotherapy.

In general, "Star Ocean 6" has many "good characters" who are honestly and sincerely likable. In games, especially RPGs, no matter how good the worldview, storyline, graphics, or battle system is, if you can't get into the characters, it will be difficult to motivate yourself to continue playing the game. In this sense, I felt that "Star Ocean 6" has enough attractive characters to motivate players.

Easy-to-use, exhilarating battles! The aerial assault with the VA is sure to be addictive!

Once again, I'm sorry to say that I'm new to the series, but one of the main features of Star Ocean is its "exhilarating battle system that can be enjoyed with easy controls. In this section, I would like to introduce the game system of this title, focusing on the battles and how interesting they are.

The battles in this game are not command-based battles, but rather action battles. The action battles are basically seamless. This means that when a player encounters a monster on the field, he or she does not have to switch screens, but can go straight into battle. Of course, when the battle is over, the player seamlessly transitions back to the field without intervening loading. This system, which integrates the field and battle screen, provides a strong sense of exhilaration and immersion at the same time.

In battle, players fight enemies by making full use of the skills assigned to the □, △, ○ buttons (PlayStation version). What is assigned to which buttons can be set by the user through the "Link Combo" system.

Since the actions assigned to the Link Combo are executed in sequence each time a button is pressed, you can efficiently unleash a series of attacks by setting up your battle skills properly. This sense of trial and error in creating one's own original combos is interesting because it feels like playing a fighting action game. In addition to skills, Link Combos can also be assigned to use items. Since the effects of items can be activated earlier than usual by setting them to link combos, effective use of these items seems to be the key to success.

In fact, however, skills are not unlimited in their use. The use of skills requires points called "AP. AP is recovered naturally over time, and the maximum AP can be increased or decreased by meeting certain conditions during battle. Since each skill consumes a different amount of AP, one must pay attention to the AP consumption of each skill when setting up link combos. The author felt that this AP management adds the right amount of restriction to the action battles, and at the same time, it serves as a perfect spice to give players a good sense of tension.

In this title, players can choose up to four of their fellow characters to form a party. During battles, party members other than the player who controls the character will act automatically, but the player can switch between characters in real time at the touch of a button. This makes it possible, for example, to switch to a character that can heal or buff to support a member in a pinch, or to switch to a character with high offensive power to deliver the coup de grace. This party switching system adds depth to the strategic nature of battles.

The battle system is complete and fun, but there is one element that adds even more charm to the battles in this title. That is "Vanguard Assault," or "VA," an ability obtained from DUMA.

DUMA is a mysterious mechanical life form that you will encounter as you progress through the story.
The character you control is granted special abilities by the DUMA. First, when the R1 button is pressed during a battle, a shield is deployed to prevent enemy attacks, and the character floats in the air. If the button is released in this state, the character can unleash a high-speed thrust attack against the enemy in front of him. This sense of speed is, frankly, addictively pleasing. Moreover, as mentioned earlier, this title is a seamless battle, so for example, when you see an enemy on the field, you can float up into the air and launch a rush attack to close the gap between you and the enemy and then launch a battle attack.

In addition, during the VA's rush attack, the player can also make a sharp turn by pressing the stick. By utilizing this function, you can get out of the sight of an enemy who is pointing hate at you at high speed, causing the enemy to "blindside" you. During the blindside, the enemy's movement is stopped and the amount of damage dealt is increased, giving you the advantage in battle. Furthermore, if you successfully blindside an enemy, you can even increase the maximum amount of AP required to use a skill, which is just a good thing. It is such an important action that it can be said, "He who controls the VA controls the battle.

The textual explanation of the VA system may seem difficult to understand (in fact, when the text explaining this system first appeared in the game, I found myself rereading it over and over again), but when I actually tried it, I found it to be much easier and more intuitive than I had expected. I got the impression that the VAs were much easier and more intuitive to operate than I had expected, and that I was able to unleash them with ease. This series of exhilarating actions, such as assault attacks from the air and blindside from the assault, is something that we hope you will experience by actually playing the game.

Although I have mainly introduced the battle system, the familiar RPG elements such as "equipment" and "skill trees" are also present in the game. I am a particular fan of the skill tree system, which allows you to think carefully about what to strengthen, and I was quite impressed with the skill tree in this title, as each character has a different form, allowing for plenty of training.

Whether you want to release battle skills to strengthen link combos, release passive skills to take advantage of battles, or release increases in each status, such as attack power and strength, to give them solid enhancements, ....... If you like the training element in RPGs, I think you will be well satisfied with this game.

Here's the great part! My personal recommendation for "Star Ocean 6

Now, let me introduce some of my personal highlights of "Star Ocean 6".

1, Seamless battles and "VAs" provide an overwhelmingly fast-paced and exhilarating experience.

Good tempo" is an important element in playing games, not only RPGs. No matter how good the story is or how interesting the battles are, if the tempo is bad, stress will accumulate and you may end up giving up on the game. Conversely, it would not be an exaggeration to say that whether or not you can truly immerse yourself in a game depends on the tempo.

In conclusion, "Star Ocean 6" has a good tempo throughout the entire game. It goes without saying that seamless battles, in which there is no loading between field exploration and battle, play a role in the game's fast pacing, but the "VAs," as I mentioned in the introduction to battles, also contribute to the game's fast pace.

In fact, the VA can be used not only during battles, but also when moving around the vast map.

Although this title is not an open world, there are vast maps, including fields and towns. It is good to be able to enjoy the excitement of "adventuring in the wide world on your own feet," but there is a risk of losing the tempo of the game when moving through the vast field.

This is where "VA" comes in handy. The VA allows you to move through the air as many times as you like without having to worry about such things in the field. Furthermore, you can use the VA to move through the air even in the towns where NPCs live, which are scattered all over the country. This makes it possible to shortcut long flights of stairs, get on the roofs of private homes, and so on.

Moreover, in towns and fields, there are often items placed in places that are normally inaccessible, as if to say, "Try using VA to move through the air here. In other words, this title is packed with the fun of 3D action game-like exploration. VAs are sure to be indispensable not only in battle, but also in field movement and exploration. In fact, it may become so indispensable that you will find yourself pressing the R1 button to activate the VA even when playing other 3D games.

2, "Double Hero System" to enjoy different gameplay by two protagonists

As mentioned in the introduction of the characters, there are two main characters, Raymond and Letitia, in this game. The "double hero system," in which one of the two protagonists is selected at the start of the game, is employed. This is a tremendous feat, if you think about it (or even if you don't think about it).

To begin with, the volume of this game is in the large category. Not only is the story voluminous, but there are also training elements, exploration elements, challenging elements, and the in-game mini-game "Soar," which has become a big boom in the universe.

The double hero system, which allows the player to choose between two heroes, simply doubles the volume of this already voluminous game. Depending on who you choose as the main character, you will be able to see different event scenes from different perspectives, and of course, the characters who become your companions will also change. Even the music during battles changes depending on the protagonist you choose, which is surprising. With such a variety of elements, it would be a waste not to play at least two rounds of the game.

You can choose a different character and play again after clearing the game, or you can choose a different character and play again after clearing the game, or you can choose a different character and play again after clearing the game, or you can choose a different character and play again after clearing the game, or you can choose a different character and play again after clearing the game. You can also proceed with the saved data of the two main characters in the same order. I started the game with Letitia's data, but as the story progressed, I wanted to know more about Raymond's character, so I decided to start the game with Raymond's data as well. I recommend this way of playing the game in order to gain a deeper understanding of the story and the world.

Star Ocean 6" is a great game for fans of the series, as well as for newcomers to the series!

So, that's it for this review of "Star Ocean 6".

To be honest, without fear of being misunderstood, I tend to prefer RPGs set in the modern era to fantasy RPGs. For this reason, I have tended to avoid fantasy RPGs until now. However, "Star Ocean 6" was full of fun that even I could get into. This is due not only to the magnificent storyline and fascinating characters, but also to the good tempo that envelops the entire game and the exhilarating and addictive battles. To be honest, I have probably never felt so eager to fight field enemies in an RPG. I may have never felt such a desire to "fight more" with enemies in the field in an RPG.

If you, like me, have never played the Star Ocean series before, or if you are worried about whether you will be able to get into the science fiction or fantasy world ......, this is a title that you should definitely play. You will be absorbed into the world of "Star Ocean 6" within 10 minutes of starting the game.
