The director talks about the appeal of the voice actors and the secret story behind the postrecording.
The following is an excerpt from the original release.
Two countries that have been separated for 100 years. <The two countries have been separated for 100 years. Saara (voice: Minami Hamabe) is a calm princess in the Land of Gold who is not taken seriously by anyone, and Naranbayar (voice: Kento Kaku) is a poor, family-oriented architect in the Land of Water. Although they are enemies, they are caught up in their country's agenda and end up playing the role of a "fake couple. Naranbayar, concerned about the future of Saala due to a severe water shortage, decides to open diplomatic relations between the two countries on the brink of war. Will the "gentle lie" of these two clumsy people, who hold their feelings for each other in their hearts but are unable to tell the truth, change the future of their countries?
The audience who saw the film at the preview screening praised the performances of the two leads, Garai and Hamabe, for their respective roles! The unique characters surrounding the main characters are played by a superb cast of voice actors who have appeared in a number of high-profile productions.
Miyuki Sawashiro plays Lailala, who is popular among fans of the original work; Subaru Kimura plays Jauhara, a scholar from the Land of Gold who understands Naranbayar's position and cooperates with him, despite her strong appearance; and Keiko Toda plays Leopoldine, Sarla's sister and the first princess of the Land of Gold. Other leading Japanese voice actors have gathered to bring new charm to these unique characters, including Chafu Hayashi as Piripappa, the right minister of the Land of Gold; Masaki Terasoma as Oduni, the chief of the Land of Water; and Banjo Ginga as Rastaban III, the king of the Land of Gold.
Madhouse ace creator Kotono Watanabe, who loved the original work and was chosen to direct the film, praised the voice cast assembled for the film!
Hiroshi Kamiya, who plays the role of Saladin, has appeared in a number of immensely popular works that everyone has seen at least once, including the role of Levi in "Shinkage no Kyojin" and Trafalgar Law in "ONE PIECE. Kamiya, who has a solid talent, first mentioned that the character of Saladin is a character that requires a high level of acting as "a handsome left minister from the original story, a character who eats the main characters because of his flashy appearance and the heavy burden he bears. He also expressed his great confidence in Kamiya, saying, "He is a difficult character who is aloof on the surface, but has a resigned heart at the bottom of his character. <Saladin, the left minister of the "Land of Gold," gets along well with Naranbayar and decides to give him a helping hand in his seemingly reckless dream. The exquisite dialogue between Naranbayar and Saladeen is a must-see, and their "unshakable determination" in the face of a grand plan for the future of the country will move audiences' hearts!
Sala Deen
Saladin's partner is Leopoldine, the first princess of the "Land of Gold" and sister of Saara. Director Watanabe commented on Toda's performance, "Leopoldine looks like she is about how old she is, even from the outside. She is in her late twenties," said Watanabe. At first, I had her act with an intimidating air, but I asked her to give a more life-sized, 20-something look to the dubbing. He also talks about the particulars of the direction of the film. In contrast to Sarla, Toda is a glamorous, good-looking, confident, and somewhat ruthless woman, but in fact, she is more concerned about the future of her country than anyone else... Toda's passionate performance is also a must-see!
Princess Leopoldine
And like Saradine, Lailala, who tries to support Saara and Naranbayar behind the scenes, is played by Miyuki Sawashiro, who has played many popular characters, including the Fallen Princess in "Demon Slayer" (Yugaku-hen) and Sinon in "Sword Art Online". Director Watanabe explains the secret story behind the creation of the character, "Rylara's age is unknown, and we really don't know how old she is in terms of her position, so at first we asked her to be voiced like a nanny, but we felt that the character's image was too transparent, so we settled on the current voice. He also revealed a secret story behind the production of the film. Rylara, the black-robed guard, is a character full of mystery, with few words and no facial expressions. It will be interesting to see how she will relate to Saara and Naranbayar.
Railala
Rastaban III
Most of the actors were people who said, "I used to watch the anime! I thought the grade was great because they were all cast as great people for the movie! (laugh)," said Watanabe, who praised the dream collaboration of legendary voice actors. The characters who join the epic story of Saara and Naranbayar, such as Saladin, Leopoldine, and Laila, are all fascinating characters full of personality, created by the voice actors who breathed life into each one of them as if they were answering the director's passion and commitment to each character. We hope that you will pay attention to their activities!
The passionate drama of the characters, who sometimes clash with each other and support each other toward the same dream, and the ending that is overflowing with "the purest kindness" will surely make you cry for the first time in the year 2023. The movie "Land of Gold, Land of Water" will be released on January 27, 2023 (Fri.) on a nationwide roadshow!
