Scariest SF series "MAKE MY DAY" by the original creators of "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolts" to be distributed on Netflix from February 2! Trailer and scene cutout revealed!

MAKE MY DAY," an animation series by Yasuo Ohtagaki of "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolts" and others, will be exclusively distributed on Netflix from February 2 (Thursday).

MAKE MY DAY" is based on an original story by Yasuo Otagaki (author of "MOONLIGHT MILE" and "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolts") and mechanical designs by Shoji Kawamori (director and mechanical designer of the "Macross" series) and Kiyotaka Oshiyama (DEVILMAN crybaby, "CHANSOMAN ), and Kiyotaka Oshiyama ("DEVILMAN crybaby" and "CHANSOMAN"), the "strongest lineup" in the world of science fiction, have come together to create a completely new animation series.

The film depicts a sci-fi action-survival adventure in which those on a tough mission on a planet covered in ice and snow encounter a ferocious creature that attacks humans and gets caught up in a chaotic battle.

The "scariest" trailer and scene photos have now been released, featuring the voices of Masaomi Yamahashi (Jim), Ayaka Takagaki (Marnie), Kazuhiro Yamaji (Walter), Akio Otsuka (Burke), and other voice actors.

Atsuko Tanaka, who has long played the main character Motoko Kusanagi in the "Ghost in the Shell" series, one of Japan's most popular science fiction series, will join the cast as Cathy, a government officer on the planet Coldwood, where the story takes place.

As Mr. Ohtagaki, the author of the original story, says, "I was conscious of 'Alien 2'" and "I challenged the splatter expression that was the charm of 80's science fiction horror films.

In the trailer, Cathy, played by Tanaka, says, "The atmosphere is toxic, the ground surface is all frozen. This is a white hell that rejects all living things. Only a suicidal person would try to escape." As evidenced by this strong line, the trailer foreshadows the horrific events that will ensue in this harsh environment isolated from the outside world.

As Walter, a prisoner Jim meets while investigating the accident, says, "The cauldron of hell may have opened up..." As the creature known as the "Swarm," which is instantly recognizable as extremely dangerous, attacks without mercy, will Jim be able to escape? Can these people, each with their own thoughts and feelings, survive in a desperate situation?

Mr. Ohtagaki said, "In depicting a monster panic, I was of course conscious of James Cameron's "Alien 2," which is the milestone of the genre, and I challenged myself to use splatter expressions, which was a major attraction of science fiction horror films in the 1980s.

The film also pays respect to the science fiction genre, citing the influence of Cameron's 1986 sci-fi classic "Avatar: Way of Water," which is currently a worldwide blockbuster hit.

He added, "In terms of the development of the story, we focused on never taking the viewer's perspective away from the main character, Jim, and structured the story so that the viewer can easily become emotionally involved by following the story based solely on what he sees and hears. This was influenced by first-person action RPGs.

Focus on the Mechas
One of the ways to fight the Swarm is through science and technology created by humans. What attracts the viewer's attention in the video are the mecha designs, which are reminiscent in some ways of the "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt" and "Macross" series, which are the production team's best-known works, but which also feel more realistic.

Mr. Otagaki said, "Rational and realistic mecha design is my forte, and I have maintained that direction in this work as well. For "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt," I set the stage in the Thunderbolt space, and went through a creative process to see what kind of human drama would unfold there. In this work, too, we started from the setting of a sig mine on an ice planet called Coldfoot, and began by imagining what kind of people would be living there. This process is indispensable to give the work a realistic feel," he said. He confided that he was conscious of creating a realistic design and setting that is connected to reality, rather than a fanciful design.

Mr. Otagaki said, "Although the subject matter is a sci-fi monster panic, "MAKE MY DAY" is also a story of the main character Jim's growth. In the process of climbing up from a harsh situation all by himself, he learns about friendship and love, gains friends, develops the strength to take on responsibility, and forms a family-like bond with them.
