Plastic Model Reviews] Breaking the limits of "Shokugan"! SMP Super Robot Taisen OG R-1 & R-GUN" that can transform without replacement! R-GUN version!

When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!

The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and one or two days of production time! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build. So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! Let's get started with the 68th issue!

Taiyuki's Weekend Plastic Model #68 "SMP [SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT] Super Robot Taisen OG R-1 & R-GUN" R-GUN

In the previous issue, we introduced SMP "R-1" from Bandai Candy Division, and this time we continue with "R-GUN" from the same series!

The R-GUN, which appeared as the main character in "Operation Super Hero" and later participated in "Super Robot Taisen (Super Robot Wars) OG," is now available as a plastic kit that reproduces the transformation of its mysterious pilot, Ingram Plissken, and boasts a high level of popularity!

A special face that sets it apart from other personal troopers. And R-GUN, which has the feature of transforming into a huge cannon called "Metal Genocider Mode," never thought that the day would come when it would become a plastic kit that can reproduce the transformation.

I was really surprised and impressed when I assembled it and transformed it, and I would like to introduce this R-GUN with that impression this time.

First of all, the package.

The CG model of R-GUN is approaching with a slash boomerang in hand.

On the back, we have the aircraft settings and the weapons that come with this product.

On the top side, R-GUN's twin eyes glow suspiciously, and the bottom side shows Ingram's sharp eyes.

On both sides are notes and a list of ingredients.

The R-1 box and the R-GUN box can be lined up to form a single illustration. We would like to have both boxes.

As was the case with the R-1, there are only a few parts to reproduce the transformation! What is going on here? There are also pre-colored parts, and stickers to reproduce the color scheme are included. Naturally, gum is also included!

Let's start assembling it quickly!

Here is the unassembled R-GUN with the stickers already attached. Does it really transform? It's so solidly put together into a humanoid shape that you'd think it could really transform. The angularity of the legs is a perfect example of the R-GUN style.

On the back, you can see the grip of the metal genocider mode. The wing-like part can be removed and used as a melee weapon, "Katar. There are many sharp parts, so please handle with care to avoid damage. The legs have different impressions from the front and back, and R-GUN also features a bare frame appearance when viewed from the rear.

Upper body. The color scheme is almost perfectly reproduced down to the smallest details, thanks to the use of stickers, color-coded parts, and pre-painted parts. The vulcanized head and the intakes on both sides of the head are points to be smeared.

Lower body. The shape of the waist is also characteristic. The yellow parts are color-coded by dividing the parts. The grooves on the knees should also be smudged.

Back. The joints on both sides of the backpack are probably used for the "R-GUN Powered" form. The R-GUN Powered equipped with the plus parts also features the long open-barreled "High Twin Launcher" and looks different from the R-GUN form, so the "SRX Tenka Muteki no Option Parts Set" is a must-have!

Although not such a large kit, the ankle area is also a part where parts are moved in detail when transforming to the metal genocider mode.

Let's take a look at the range of motion.

The head is connected with ball joints, so you can move it around as you can see.

The shoulders are connected to ball joints extending from the body side, which are fitted into the ball receivers on the shoulder armor side. The arms can be rotated forward and backward to lift the arms directly above the body, and can also be lifted horizontally to about the same height as the sides of the body.

The axis of the shoulder can swing up and down.

The shoulder joints are ball-jointed, so the shoulders can swing lightly in each direction.

Roll rotation at the second arm part.

The elbows can bend more than 90 degrees despite the single-axis joint.

The wrists are ball-jointed, so they can be moved freely. Of course, it is easy to replace the included wrists.

The hips can also rotate on the shaft connection.

The front and rear leg openings are flexible. Without the waist armor, the structure would be more lifted.

The legs can be opened this far by avoiding the side armor at the waist.

Roll rotation axis at the upper thigh.

The knees are double-jointed and bend quite deeply.

The ankles are a combination of shaft connections, but can be moved quite freely. As shown in the lower left photo, it can only be collapsed laterally in the medial direction. The toe portion can also be lifted with the benefit of deformation.

In addition to the wrists and weapons, another face part is included.

Now let's replace them with larger wrists that emphasize the proportions of the humanoid form. The left image is for the transformation. It can be retracted into the forearms as is, a surprising gimmick. On the right side is the proportionally proportionate grip hand.

The face parts themselves are identical, but two types of stickers are included, allowing you to choose between a goggle type and a twin-eye type for assembly.

Now, let's try posing with the accessories!

Preparing for battle while bending her upper body! The left toe is doing a good job.

She can also perform a high kick from standing on her toes.

The Twin Magna rifle is small in scale, but is detailed enough to withstand close-up shots.

The rifle is also sculpted in a small scale, but is detailed enough for close-up shots.

The muzzle is also opened. I used a flat hand and had him hold it with both hands.

The connection part of the pedestal is on the lower back. It is possible to make a floating pose with this!

Twin Magnafly rifle, fire!

It is fun to reproduce the battle animation in real head height, which is depicted in the game with a deformed body shape.

R-GUN can also be posed in poses not seen in the game.

I wanted to pose him in an "X" silhouette, but he looks like he's about to deliver the finishing blow.

The beam katar sword from the backpack can be removed, and a grip can be attached to hold it in the hand.

The Twin Magna Rifle's handle is also available for the left hand, allowing the Beam Cattar Sword and rifle to be held separately.

The R-GUN comes at you sharply, and of course, the Beam Cattar Sword can be held in both hands.

Can you survive against me?"

Again, inspired by the game's battle animation.

Just before cutting down the enemy plane!

The Beam Cattar Sword can also be used as a slash boomerang by replacing the grip. The slash boomerang flying effect is also included in the "Invincible Optional Parts Set," so don't miss it!

Next, let us briefly introduce the transformation to "Metal Genocider Mode," which we have been telling you how impressed we were with from the beginning!

R-GUN, full power!"

The backpack lifts up the back panel while transforming to change the direction of the Beam Cattar Sword.

Bounce the front skirt armor up and the red block on the waist down.

Flip up the waist rear armor as well. Unlock the waist frame, especially by lifting the white part in the center of the rear.

Rotate the lower part 90° from the waist frame section. The backpack is in place by rotating the grips. The blocks on both sides of the backpack are also put together flat. In addition, for the legs, deploy the ankle armor and rotate the legs so that the gray surfaces of both legs are aligned with each other.

The ankle parts are moved in detail and transformed into the shape shown in the lower section.

Expand the back panel horizontally to ......

Tilt the head back and the body forward.

Lay the body down and close the back panel. ......

Raise the backpack and close the upper chest.

Leaving the panel blocking the upper chest intact, tilt the backpack back again and rotate it so that the tip of the beam cataract sword points forward. The arms fold down the shoulder armor and move to the underside of the body. The wrists are retracted and stowed, completing the transformation!

This is SMP's R-GUN, Metal Genocider mode! Did you notice it? You may have noticed the fact that it has completed the "complete transformation," including wrist storage! From above, it looks like a cannon with a slender barrel.

This transformation can be reproduced in full transformation! And after seeing this grip, I still want to make it into a "Hyper Tronium Buster Cannon" and have SRX hold it.

Looking at it from the side, it is quite voluminous. It is a strange mecha that has both complex and simple transformations. Still, I am amazed that they were able to reproduce the complete transformation with this size and number of parts. I was surprised.

There is no particular gimmick in the metal genocider mode, so I would like to lightly smear it as I did with the R-1 as an "extra step".

A little extra work

Here is a shot of the R-1 and the R-1 with smiling. You can see the difference in height and volume. If you apply smiling to the prominent details such as Vulcan and intakes, you can get more information. You can enjoy the model without Sumiire, but if you want to enjoy it more coolly, why not give it a try? For the smearing, we used Multi Black, a weathering color from GSI Creos, which we also used for R-1.

Ingram "fufufu ......"

Since he is an enemy, I also made him take this pose using a slap hand. He looks so strong~!

R-GUN cutting at me with a slash boomerang.

R-1 and R-GUN working together! R-GUN is mostly in R-GUN powered form since Villetta has been on board, but in some cases, it may go out without the plus parts equipped.

Ingram: "What's up? Let's see how you guys have grown."

Ingram betrays Ryusei!

Ryusei "Only you ...... can't forgive me!"

Ryusei uses his shield to block the attack, while trying to counter with his T-LINK knuckles! It is fun to imagine a situation that might happen in a game and display it!

R-GUN in a smeared state, with many white parts, so the smearing is effective.

Aside from the purple parts, the white and yellow parts are also smudged to increase the amount of information and make them look tighter.

After seeing the SRX, I would like to see the SRX with the "High Twin Launcher" and other plus parts connected to the SRX in the long metal genocider mode! I might as well go for the effect parts too, anyway! I was drawn to the "Tetraktus Grammaton! I then bought the "R-2 Powered & R-3 Powered" set and the "Invincible Optional Parts Set".

If I wanted, I would have two sets, one for "enjoying transforming and combining" and the other for "challenging painting with gusto". ...... Imagine this. Imagine the majestic figure of SRX towering over your home. ...... We hope that those who have been waiting since the time of the "New Super Robo" and other "Super Robo" fans all over the country will consider becoming "SRX owners" (laugh). I would love to hold a gathering of SRX owners someday and display a large number of SRXs.

But still. Aren't the "factors" gathering slowly? Oh, we don't have enough yet!
