Plastic Model Review] This is a Shokugan! SMP Super Robot Taisen OG R-1 & R-GUN" is higher quality than expected! R-1 version

When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!

The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and one or two days of production time! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build. So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! Let's start the 69th issue!

Taiyuki's Weekend Plastic Model #69 "SMP [SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT] Super Robot Taisen OG R-1 & R-GUN" R-1

Bandai Candy Division, which continues to produce surprisingly high quality Shokugan of various characters appearing in tokusatsu and anime, is pleased to announce the appearance of the personal trooper (PT) R-1 and R-GUN, which make up SRX, a robot representing "Super Robot Wars (hereinafter referred to as "Super Robot Wars") OG! GUN! Although many fans have been hoping for a three-dimensional version of these two machines, until now there have been few opportunities to do so, but now they have been released as an assembled kit!

SRX is a robot that combines the R-1, R-2 Powered, and R-3 Powered. R-GUN transforms into SRX's weapon "Hyper Tronium Buster Cannon" with its plus parts, and now R-1 and R-GUN are available as two types of Shokugan kits for the general public. The SMP "R-2 Powered & R-3 Powered" and "Tenka Muteki no Option Parts Set" are sold exclusively through Premium Bandai.

This time, we would like to introduce the "R-1," which marks the beginning of such a large-volume kit series.

As you can see, the package depicts a CG model of the R-1 holding its T-LINK knuckles.

On the back, there is a product description diagram with the aircraft settings and the CG model of this kit.

The top surface depicts the eyes of the R-1, and the bottom surface depicts the eyes of Pilot Ryusei.

On both sides, there are mainly notes and a list of ingredients.

Despite the fact that this kit reproduces the transformation, the number of parts seems to be small. By using pre-colored parts and stickers, the colors are almost perfectly reproduced. Other than the main body, parts of the pedestal and gum are included.

Let's quickly assemble the figure.

Here is the figure with the stickers attached. As you can see, the coloring is perfect. The wrists are small enough to transform the figure, but there are also larger wrists included for more proportionate humanoid form. More on that later.

Looking from the back, you can see the R-1's characteristic backpack extending from the shoulders.

Head area. Thanks to the pre-painted parts, the face is very finely color-coded. The head vulcan, head side ducts, and chest ducts should be smeared.

Abdomen, waist and arms.

This area is the most complex part to move in the deformation. I wonder how much effort went into the design to reproduce the deformation with a small number of parts, and to bring the shapes of the various forms together without any breakdowns.

The subtle curves of the legs are also beautifully reproduced. The ankles look "smart from the side and wide from the front" in the illustration, and SMP has reproduced this in three dimensions.

The R-1's backpack is connected to the shoulders, which has often been a bottleneck in posing the R-1 in the past, but this time the problem has been solved by providing a bold range of motion.

Joint parts used for the R-1's transformation are mounted on the waist rear armor. This contributes to the elimination of excess parts.

The rear part of the calf has relatively large stickers to support color separation. Use a cotton swab to gently blend the stickers with the details to create a three-dimensional effect. Be careful not to tear the stickers by rubbing them with hard objects.

Next, let's take a look at the range of motion.

The neck is connected with a ball joint. The frame for deformation is also embedded in the torso side, so you can use it to further expand the range of posing.

The shoulder joints are shaft connected, so you can rotate them to raise the arms. In previous models, the backpack connected to the shoulder armor came to the front side of the body, but in this R-1, as you can see, the backpack remains on the rear side of the body.

The shoulder armor can be flipped up, so the arms can be lifted horizontally about 90°.

The backpack moves quite a bit in this kit. You may have seen this kind of movement in previous R-1 sculpts, such as the one pictured above: ......

The yellow block at the connection can be slid back to form a frame for further range of motion.

The entire frame can be lifted up to this level. This makes posing with each piece of equipment even easier.

The arm and backpack are connected with ball joints, so they can be rolled as shown.

Shoulders can be swung backward on the body side.

Shoulder armor and arms have ball joint connection. Roll rotation with two arms. Elbows are double-jointed and can be bent 180°. As expected of a machine that excels in close combat. Excellent mobility.

Wrist is connected with ball joint. You can move them with a gritty motion. The attached wrists can be easily interchanged.

The waist is connected with a shaft and can be rotated to a certain degree.

The front and rear leg openings are very flexible.

The hip joint should structurally be able to open the legs 90° to the left and right, but due to the shape of the holster part of the G-Revolver and other parts of the kit, the normal leg opening is about this much.

Roll rotation on the thighs.

Knees are double-jointed and can be bent to about 180°.

Ankles are ball joint connected. There is a notch in the ball receiver to allow for a particularly deep inward tilt. The toes benefit from deformation and can be extended (closed).

Replacement wrists are plentiful, with seven pairs available.

Now, let us introduce the included weapons and poses in the unassembled state, while replacing the fists with larger ones for better proportions.

As I tried before in my article on the RIOBOT Transformable Combination R-1 toy by Sentoneri, I started with a pose similar to the beginning of the Super Robot Taisen OG Moon Duelers battle anime.

Connection to the pedestal is made by the axis in the gray part of the back.

The left hand is open, and the T-LINK knuckles are attached to the right hand, ready for battle!

Take it, kill it!

T-LINK knuckles!

Break the ministry!

Both left and right T-LINK knuckles are included, so you can use double knuckles!

Wrist parts for the "Tenshou Tenshita Nendou Shattering Sword" are also included. The telekinetic crushing sword effect parts are included in the "Invincible Optional Parts Set", so you can recreate it with your mind's eye until its release.

The backpack is packed with highlights. For the first time ever, the hatch that holds the cold metal knife can be opened and closed! The knife can also be taken out, so it feels great to play with it!

Naturally, the cold metal knife can be held by the weapon handle.

Cut it open! Cold metal naaif ministry!"

The knife does not fall easily even if it is held in the opposite hand.

G. Revolver can be removed from the holster and the grip part can be replaced with a part that is integrated with the wrist to recreate the equipment.

The muzzle of the G-Revolver, one of R-1's most popular shooting weapons, is open, and despite the small number of parts, the figure has been sculpted with great attention to detail.

Giant revolver!

Aim set! Fire ministry!

I was able to reproduce the G Revolver removed from the waist and held in the opposite hand to recreate the "Giant Revolver" in the "Giant Revolver" state. The "GT Revolver" that is held like a tonfa is a setting of the R-1 Kai that appeared in "Super Robo Alpha Gaiden".

In "New Super Robo", it is equipped with a boosted rifle, which was an additional weapon added in the middle of the game. It is also equipped with a shield. The long barrel rifle, SRX's head and Z-O-Sword's handle are combined to make a large shield, which increases the volume of the figure.

The boosted rifle can be mounted on joints on each of the left and right backpacks.

The silhouette from the front looks like this. This makes it possible to fight a combat battle even when fully equipped.

The huge shield seems to be able to defend half of the body. Even when lifted up this high, each joint can be held firmly.

Boosted Laiho!

Combined with the flat hand, you can have him hold a boosted rifle.

Thank you for waiting. Now, let's try transforming into R-Wing!

Chainzee! R-Wing!

This time, we will partially reconfigure and deform the R-1.

Bend down the cranked knee parts. Close the toes, retract the ankle armor, and lift up the G-Revolver holster with the frame inside the thigh.

Move the G-Revolver holster and hip joint parts into position, attach the joint parts that were attached to the back of the rear skirt armor to the holes in the knee joints, and the leg deformation is complete.

Transformation of both arms. Open the forearm covers and rotate the wrist bases to retract the wrists. Close the cover.

Transform the second arm to fit into the shoulder armor, extend the backpack arms and deploy the main wings.

Complete the deformation of the arms by orienting the backpack to the R-wing in place.

Combine the deformed arms and legs.

Transformation of the body part. Pull the neck joint up and deploy the back panel.

The head is tilted back, the chest is tilted forward, and the waist rear armor is moved upward. Close the back panel to cover the face, completing the transformation.

Open the blue panel on the shield so that the two holes can be seen, ready for docking to the R-Wing. And when everything is docked!

R-Wing is complete!

Replace the pedestal connection for the R-Wing, engage the backpack frame, and the display is ready! Now it's time to take a look at the whole thing!

Wow! The R-Wing is firmly in place! It's amazing that it's so well styled at this size! And there are no extra parts!

The position of the legs and arms are also almost exactly as set. The position of the legs and arms are almost exactly as set!

The silhouette from the front is very sharp, and the G-Revolver and Boosted Rifle can be used in this form.

It is also quite sharp from the rear. I had the impression that the rear view of an aircraft would have a large volume, but the R-Wing is quite sleek even from the rear.

As you can see from the side. The thickness is minimized as much as possible.

Plus a little extra work

If it is so highly finished, you can play with it as an assembled toy, so you will be very satisfied with ...... even if you don't add "extra work". However, as I mentioned in the beginning, I wanted to smear some parts of it, so this time I used I decided to apply a light smear of Kreos Weatherization Color Multi Black.

The effect of smearing on the bright white and yellow areas was especially high, and I think the overall impression became tighter because the details became clearer. You can use a writing-type smear pen to apply smudging to the details that you want to make black here.

Upper part with T-link knuckles! Even with the arms up like this, the backpack is still on the back!

I guess you could call it a new interpretation, but this could be a great invention in R-1!

Posing a little more because I'm having fun! R-1 in an acrobatic pose, dodging enemy fire and firing back with a boosted rifle.

There was no scene like this, but the R-1 deploying its wings laterally and slashing with a cold metal knife while gliding.

The direction of the wings is opposite to that of the R-Wing, so it is hard to say whether the R-Wing has lift or not, but it looks like it.

The R-wing configuration with smeared wings. Since this is an aircraft, I wanted to add some details to the main wings. The effect is still great.

Now, speaking of the R-1, it is also responsible for the head of the SRX, and since the shield that serves as the head is also included, I would like to recreate the head of the SRX for a moment, although it is not mentioned in the instruction manual.

What a surprise! You can see R-1's face through SRX's goggles! I've never seen anything like this before! In addition to the regular smoked black goggles, there is one more goggle part included.

That is this goggle with twin eye projection. Let's install this one and look at it from the front!

Woohoo! Only one eye happens to be visible due to the light, but that is also cool!

The reason I didn't include the body part in the shot is because the body of the R-1 is too slender to have the head of the SRX. If you really want to see it, please do! If you really want to see it, please try to reproduce it with your own hands!

Or rather, when you recreate this head, you should also get the R-2 Powered & R-3 Powered, and while changing the tone of your voice, say "Tronium Engine, full drive! T-LINK full contact! Telekinetic field on! Variable formation! and then have it merge with the SRX.

The R-2 Powered has a huge cannon added to the R-2, which is already a sturdy fuselage. And then there is the R-3 Powered, with its impressive gap between its feminine body line and the huge plus parts that make it look like a fortress.

The set will be sent in a gigantic box that will surely make you laugh. If you miss it, when will you get another chance?

What would you do? As a Super Robot fan! As a plastic kit fan! As a robot toy lover!

Everyone has their own circumstances, but I had no choice (click).

Next time, I will introduce SMP's R-GUN. I am sure you will be impressed with the deformation of this one as well, so please look forward to it.

See you soon!
