Trekkies are not only for Pokékas! Report on Surugaya Akihabara Trekkers and Boardgame Hall, a store offering a variety of card and board games [Shun Gori's Akiba Exploration Vol. 12

Akihabara continues to evolve day by day. The "Shun Gori's Akiba Exploration" started with the aim of creating a "Map of Akihabara," but the recent trading card (TCG) boom has made it impossible not to cover the increasing number of card shops in Akihabara, so we have been visiting card shops in Akihabara one after another since the 8th issue. We have visited 7 card shops in Akihabara since the 8th issue.

This time, we visited "Surugaya Akihabara Trekker Boardgame Kan," a TCG-related store owned by Surugaya, which operates seven stores in Akihabara, each of which sells unique otaku-related goods.

Surugaya Akihabara Trekker/Board Game Kan is a 7-minute walk from JR Akihabara Station and a 3-minute walk from Suehirocho Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. It is located one street over from Chuo-dori, the main street of Akihabara, in the central area of Akihabara, where there are many gacha specialty stores, maid cafes, and PC parts stores in the neighborhood.

The stairs leading up to the store are lined with the names of the products sold in the store.

On the wall of the stairs, there is a list of cards that are being purchased at high prices*, so you can check how much your collection will be purchased for by referring to this list.

Please note that the purchase prices in the photos are current at the time of the interview and are subject to change.

When you enter the store, you will see card-related items on the right side and board games and TRPGs on the left side.

The TCGs on display range from the standard items such as "Pokéka," "Yu-Gi-Oh," and "Weiss Schwarz" to amibo cards and "Golden Gash Bells! and "Golden Gash Bell!" that are rarely seen in other card shops.

I doubt if it can be called a TCG, but the "Bikkuriman stickers" were also available, which are a hit with the "Arafumi" crowd, and I couldn't help but grin.

Of course, it is not only the standard and nostalgic items, but also the "One Piece Card Game," which has been the talk of the town lately, is well-stocked.

Not only cards, but also sleeves, cases, mats, etc., are well stocked, and the number of items handled is simply overwhelming.

The products in the store are not only used, but also new. You can easily distinguish between the two by the color of the price tag (red for used and blue for new), so you don't have to worry.

Speaking of TCG stores, one of the most interesting areas is the high-value merchandise section. High-priced items are displayed in a showcase near the cash register.
Looking at the cards on display, you will see cards priced at an unbelievable 1 million yen, 1.5 million yen, etc. Some cards are priced at 6.58 million yen ($6.5 million).

Among them is the "Black Magician Girl" card from "Yu-Gi-Oh," which costs 6.58 million yen (price at the time of the interview), enough to buy a new car! I lost track of time and gazed at the showcase lined with legendary cards.

The huge amount of cards in stock makes it difficult to display all of them, and it is nearly impossible to pick out the cards you want from the huge inventory.

Therefore, a terminal for searching the inventory is available in the store, where customers can find the card they want, pay for it, and pick it up directly at the cash register.

Surugaya Akihabara Trekker Boardgame Kan, as the name implies, sells not only card games but also board games.

The store is filled with a multinational selection of board games, including those from Germany, the home of board games, the United States, and of course Japan.

Among the games on display are the nostalgic "Doraemon's Donjara" and "Bikkuriman's Game of Life," which will also win the hearts of alafifighters and shun-gori.

Used rulebooks for table talk RPGs, which are expensive to buy new, are also available for purchase at wallet-friendly prices.

Due to the demand for nest eggs, board games that have been talked about on TV and YouTube, as well as Gundam board games that even Shun Gori, a self-proclaimed board game fanatic, has never heard of, are also sold, making it fun just to look at them.

One of the highlights of a TCG store is the store's original packs (Ori-Pa), and the Ori-Pa at Surugaya Akihabara Trekker Boardgame Kan seems to be very popular and was sold out at the time of our visit.

The Oripa at the Surugaya Akihabara Trekker Boardgame Center was sold out at the time of the interview.

The vending machines also sell "dark gacha," a type of gacha in which you never know what you will get. If you are interested, it might be interesting to try it at your own risk.
