The synopsis, scene cuts, and cast dialogue for the first episode of the TV anime "Bokoku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu" which will air on April 1 (Sat) have been released.

The original story is serialized by Norio Sakurai in "Mangacross". It is a coming-of-age romantic comedy about Anna Yamada, a naturally beautiful girl with a great style, and Kyotaro Ichikawa, a shadowy character who has a bad fantasy about her. The manga has been ranked in the "This Manga is Amazing!" The TV anime is directed by Hiroaki Akagi, the director of "Karakajouite no Takagi-san".

The TV anime "Bokuno no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu" will finally begin airing and distribution on April 1 (Sat) on TV Asahi's "NUMAnimation" network (24 stations nationwide) and other channels.

The synopsis of the first episode, advance scene cuts, and an interview with Shun Horie, who plays Kyotaro Ichikawa, and Hina Yotsumiya, who plays Anna Yamada, are now available for viewing.

Episode 1 "Boku ha Boku wa Robbed
Kyotaro Ichikawa, a junior high school student with a severe case of chunibyo, has a girl he wants to kill. She is his classmate Anna Yamada, a beautiful girl. Ichikawa spends his days fantasizing about her beautiful corpse and repeating his self-loathing.
One day, when he goes to the library, Ichikawa's sanctuary, he finds Yamada with a big mouthful of rice ball in her mouth. Ichikawa cannot hide his shock at this unexpected incident. Yamada also produces materials for class, but seems to be unable to find anything to cut.
Ichikawa is again upset by Yamada's unexpected behavior. ......

Shun Horie and Hina Yotsumiya talk about "Boku Yaba! They also talk about their own middle school days and post-recording episodes.

Just before the broadcast, Shun Horie, who plays the role of Kyotaro Ichikawa, a shady character with Chuunibyou disease, and Hina Yotsumiya, who plays Anna Yamada, a beautiful girl who loves eating, talk about the work and the characters, as well as their own personal experiences!
They not only talk about the work and characters, but also about their own junior high school days and postrecording episodes.

--Please tell us your impression of the original work.
Mr. Horie: I thought it was a work filled with the sweet and sour feelings of adolescence. The main character Ichikawa (Kyotaro) is a slightly twisted boy, and I was impressed by the fact that it is a romantic comedy that is off the beaten path, which is something that no other work has. I often sympathized with Ichikawa's words and actions, and was immediately absorbed into the world of "Boku Yaba". I also felt that the slow and careful depiction of the love between Ichikawa and the heroine, Yamada (Anna), was precious, but I also felt frustrated with each episode (laugh).
YAMIMIYA] At first, I read the book from Anna's point of view, but as I came into contact with Ichikawa's kindness, I began to love him more and more. As for Anna, I found her to be a dedicated and sensitive girl. She can be clumsy or seem crass, but I think her hard work in everything she does will naturally make you like her as a "good girl.

--What is Yamada's "cute point"?
YAMAMIYA: Everything is cute!

--Everything is cute! What was the first moment you found her cute?
YAMAMIYA] I think it was when she was eating. Anna is such a beautiful girl that she even works as a model for a magazine, but she was innocently eating sweets with her cheeks puffed up. It's so adorable to watch her eat so deliciously.
Ms. Horie: In front of Ichikawa, she often becomes a clunker. On the other hand, to Nanpai (Haruya Nanjo, a handsome senior who approaches Yamada), she sometimes gives a sharp "I'm not interested" look. I think the gap between the two, or rather, the variety of expressions Yamada has, is one of her charms.

--By the way, how was your junior high school days?
Mr. Horie: I was so middle-aged that the old me and Ichikawa were both in the same boat. I used to make fun of the "yo-kas," but inwardly I was very jealous of them. There was also a girl like Yamada who cared about me. When she was seated in front of me, she would hand me a printout while looking back exaggeratedly so that her long hair hung in my face. ......
Mr.YAMEMIYA] That sounds like a cartoon!
Mr. Horie] It really upset me at the time. It was a small adolescence. So I really, painfully understand Ichikawa's feelings (laughs).

--What kind of junior high school student were you, Mr. Yotsumiya?
YAMOMIYA: I started puberty later than my peers, and I was a bit of a boyish boy in elementary school, so I think I still had the same attitude when I entered junior high.
Mr. Horie: He had a natural yang aura about him. It seems that we both had opposite junior high school years. I mentioned earlier that I saw Ichikawa as a double, but he never read "The Encyclopedia of Murder" in class. I did secretly read a light novel by replacing the cover with a cover of a literary masterpiece (laughs).

(laughs) -- Now let's talk about the postrecording for the anime. How was it playing the characters?
Mr. Horie] Ichikawa is a boy before his voice changes, so I was worried about what kind of voice would be appropriate for him. When I was auditioning, I thought that Ichikawa would probably be played by a female actor. So when I was chosen for the role of Ichikawa, I could not see any vision of a male actor playing the role, and I was very puzzled. However, after facing Ichikawa once again and determining in my mind "a high male voice without cuteness," I began to focus on Ichikawa's performance.

--What did you keep in mind when acting Ichikawa?
Horie] I tried to keep the atmosphere natural and realistic, without deforming his breathing and unspoken voice as much as possible. I thought that the charm of "Bokuba Yaba" is contained in these small details. When the characters interacted with each other, I let the acting of Mr. Yotsumiya and his co-stars do the talking for me. Ichikawa, like Yamada, has a different attitude and tone for each character, so I let the people around me shape the character of Ichikawa.

--What were you conscious of when playing Yamada?
YAMEMIYA] The most important thing was how Anna was thinking about Ichikawa at that time. Especially in the beginning, she gradually becomes aware of him, so I was always conscious of the distance between her and Ichikawa from Anna's point of view. There was a memorable moment in the performance. There were times when I was really moved by your performance, and I felt like this is how I felt when I was nervous about Ichikawa-kun.
Mr. Horie] Oops, that's a first for me.
YAMIMIYA] To avoid spoilers, I'd like to withhold which line... When you performed that play, I was shocked as if an electric current ran through my whole body.

--Mr. Hitsujimiya, you also fell in love with Ichikawa, didn't you?
YAMAMIYA] Yes, I did (laughs). It was a very important moment for me to gain experience in playing Anna. Also, the relevant scenes in the original work are very wonderful. I hope you enjoy the difference in expression between the manga and the anime.

YAMIMIYA: I try not to think about Anna's goofy behavior in my head, but to play her as she really is. She herself does it without consciously thinking about it, so I felt that if I thought about it and acted it out, it would come off as strange. I received advice from sound director Noriyoshi Onuma as I went along, and I played the role with the feeling of "living as Anna-chan" in mind.
Horie: I had a lot of trouble with Ichikawa's delivery of the dialogue and monologue. It is very difficult to make a funny line as an actor. So I tried various things. I tried imitating senior actors' performances, changing my character to be a bit nihilistic or cool, or speaking too fast and saying things in a rapid-fire manner. I tried everything I could think of. At the very least, I tried not to slip, but it was still a lot of work. ......

--What did you keep in mind in the dialogues and monologues other than the tskkomi?
Mr. Horie] I tried to separate the two so that the difference between the two would be clear. I know this because I am a comic myself, but the volume and tension of a comic's voice differs between his conversation and his mental voice. Ichikawa was clearly the same type, so I changed the way he spoke. In his monologue, he basically sounds pompous (laugh), and in conversation, he basically has a timid voice. He talks to Yamada in a hemming and hawing manner at first, and as they get closer, he starts to speak in a way that sounds like his heart.

--How was the recording studio?
Mr. Horie: It was a relatively small group, consisting of myself, Yotomiya, Ayaka Asai who played Chihiro Kobayashi, Megumi Ban who played Moeko Sekine, and Atsumi Tanezaki who played Serina Yoshida.
YAMIMIYA] Depending on the number of episodes, Nobuhiko Okamoto played Sho Adachi, Nobunaga Shimazaki played Haruya Nanpei, and so on.
Mr. Horie] Yes, that's right. And the atmosphere on the set was very homey.
YAMIMIYA] Yes, it was. They were all really kind people. ......
Horie] Everyone had something in common with the characters, and I felt like I was visiting a group of good friends. I felt like I was visiting a group of good friends. It was a very comfortable and friendly place to work.
YAMIMIYA] I was also impressed by the smell of ramen that wafted into the recording studio (laughs).
Mr. Horie] It was coming from the ventilation fan in the booth, wasn't it?
Mr. YAMEMIYA] Yes. It was the kind of environment where people would get excited talking about such unimportant things.

--It seemed to be as lively as Ichikawa's class. By the way, Ichikawa and Yamada have many attractive friends.
YAMAMIYA] If we are talking only about romance, I would say Hara (Honoka). In "Boku Yaba," there are love stories other than Ichikawa-kun and Anna-chan's, and the love story between Hara-san and Kanzaki-kun is particularly noteworthy. If anything, Hara-san and Kanzaki's love story may be progressing faster than Hara-san's.
Mr. Horie: Mr. Hara is very feminine, isn't he?
YAMIMIYA] He's really cute. I hope everyone will be soothed by the warm and fuzzy atmosphere of Ms. Hara, played by Aki Toyosaki..!
Mr. Horie] I am Adachi, Kanzaki, and Ota (Chikara), the three male idiots. They always throw in some pretty nasty innuendos, and the girls always scold me for it, but I can't hate them. All three of them are good guys at heart, so I hope you will warmly watch their foolishness.

--If you were in Ichikawa and Yamada's class, what kind of students would you be?
Mr. Horie: Like Ichikawa, I think they would probably be observing their surroundings and playing hooch!
YAMIMIYA] Like Anna, I would probably be around people who give me a hard time and take care of me... I want to spend my time surrounded by Chii-chan, Moe-chan, and Serina-chan (laughs).

--I would like to be surrounded by Chii-chan, Moe-chan, and Serina-chan (laughs)...just like Ichikawa and Yamada (laughs). Lastly, please tell us about the highlights of the anime.
YAMAMIYA] I feel that the worldview of "Boku Yaba" is further expanded by the animation, character voices, and music. What you can feel in the original work and what you can feel in the anime are both important aspects of Anna and her friends' daily lives. I would be happy if you could immerse yourself in that sad but gentle world with me. Please enjoy the preciousness of how Ichikawa-kun and Anna-chan build their world together.
I was able to do postrecording surrounded by my kind co-stars, while expressing my longing for "the kind of youth I wanted to spend". I could feel the love of the director Hiroaki Akagi and the other staff members many times during the recording sessions. The resulting TV anime "Bokuno no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu" has many cheerful, fun, and exciting scenes, as well as the occasional heart-warming scene, and I think it is a work that truly embodies "youth.
