Interview with "Magical Girl Magical Destroyers," a Spring 2023 Anime! Aimi (Blue) and Tomoyo Kurosawa (Pink) talk about the artistic appeal and strong characters

Magical Destroyers", a TV anime that will finally start in April 2023. This is a story of love, madness, and destruction from up-and-coming creator JUN INAGAWA.

In Japan, where various otaku cultures have been eliminated, a young revolutionary otaku hero fights for a world where he can say what he likes as much as he likes with three magical girls, "Anarchy," "Blue," and "Pink," and other otaku who have gathered under the banner of freedom. We interviewed Aimi, who plays the magical girl Blue, and Tomoyo Kurosawa, who plays Pink!　We asked them to talk about the charm of the world of the work.

Pink only says "go" and "bo

What was your impression of the TV animation "Magical Destroyers"?


Aimi: When I heard about the audition, I knew that Blue was a character with a Kansai dialect, so I wanted to play her for sure! I thought, "I definitely want to do this! During the studio audition, I was instructed to "go all out," and when I opened the script for the first episode, I understood what that meant (laughs). (Laughs.) I am having a lot of fun now because I can try various expressions. (Laughs.) I'm having a lot of fun now because I get to try out different ways of expressing myself.

TM: So you didn't know that much at the audition stage?

Aimi: Only in the text...and in the extracted lines, I didn't think that Blue was so perverted. I thought there was something a little strange about him. I thought she might be a little crazy, but I didn't know that she had the expression to disintegrate to this extent! I was surprised in a good way.

Kurosawa: I first met JUN INAGAWA through a friend of mine who invited me to his private exhibition in Shibuya. There, he told me that he really wanted to make an animated version of this work!　We were talking about how we had the seeds for it, but that it would be great if we could do it together when it comes to fruition. At that time, I felt his passion for Anarchy-chan (CV. Fayrouz Ai) and his enthusiasm since he has been working in the U.S. and has grasped the American dream, I felt that the movement of putting a story to a single illustration and presenting it to the world is the charm of this work and its great energy.

Aimi: When I look at the visuals of JUN's illustrations, I can imagine many things from them. When I received the materials, I thought, "I really want to see this work made into merchandise! I thought, "I'd like to see this work made into merchandise!

I know what you mean.

Kurosawa T-shirts and such look easy to wear, don't they?

Aimi: It is very fashionable, isn't it?


Aimi: They are very fashionable! It has a street-like feel to it, which is cool. By the way, do you have any memories of your audition?

Kurosawa: I auditioned for the role of Pink. I had heard about your work at a private exhibition, and since then, whenever there was an exhibition, I went to see it, so I wanted to be involved in the work!　I wanted to be involved. I asked the staff at the audition, "Please make sure to keep your schedule free for this audition! I had a lot of enthusiasm for the audition.


T : From what I saw of the script, I didn't think you spoke a word. ......

Kurosawa No, ...... I didn't speak. I only said "gobo" (laughs).

Aimi: But when you appeared on stage, you did speak, didn't you?

Kurosawa Blue translates everything for me (laughs).

Aimi: It was an unexpected amount of translation. I was like, "Am I really allowed to say all this? I was like, "Am I really allowed to say all of this? But I feel I have a great responsibility because I am the voice of Pink-chan.

Kurosawa I didn't expect to say so much "gobo-gobo". The script only says "gobo" and "bobo. But when I went to the set to record the second episode, I was told to keep saying "gobo gobo" in the background while Blue was translating. I was like, "What?

Aimi: I thought you were just saying one word and Blue was taking that and translating it (laughs).

Kurosawa I thought so too!　I thought that even two letters could be understood by Blue. When he walks or lifts something, is there an SE like "kyupi"? but I was told to do everything with "go" or "bo". Once, when I ad-libbed "Hmph! I said, "I'm not allowed to do that," and he gave me a firm direction, saying, "Use 'go' or 'bo' ....... I tried to see if it was possible (laughs).

Aimi: Sometimes the translation overtook me and I finished my lines first. That was really funny.


Trying to get the translation to finish before me was too much fun. It's too funny to go up first when you're translating. But the people who are watching may think it's a waste of Tomoyo Kurosawa's time! They might think, "What a waste of time!

Kurosawa No, no, no!

Aimi But it's great!　The "go" and "bo" are filled with so much emotion and skill.

Kurosawa That's so sweet (laughs).
