Recommended for Gundam Model Kits Exhibit! This is a 100-yen Goods! The "Connecting Display Base" is too much! The Tool Way! The 12th issue of "The Tool Way!

Hello, this is Karyas! This is the twelfth installment of "The Tool Way! In this 12th issue of "The Tool Way!", we would like to introduce and review a slightly different product! I would like to introduce and review the "Connecting Display Base", which is now on sale from Yamada Chemical Co!

Did you know that there is an item that has recently become a hot topic in the model and figure world of SNS?

'I went to buy it at various stores, but it was already sold out ......'

This quality for this price is revolutionary!

The item that has been creating a lot of buzz with comments like these is the "Connecting Display Base" from Yamada Chemical Co. Of course, there have been many bases for displaying plastic models and figures from various manufacturers in the past, but the "Connecting Display Base" introduced here is a little different. Because ......

It can be purchased at100yen!

......, because it is the most cost-effective base!

This display base is designed in the image of a hangar that appears in robot anime, and the key point is that you can connect more and more of them together!

Is it really only 100 yen? The quality is so good, you'll wonder if it's really 100 yen. It can be said that the production was possible only because Yamada Chemical usually develops and deploys a variety of goods for the 100-yen market.

1. Let's assemble it!

First, let's assemble it by itself. The parts are very simple, consisting of only five parts: back wall, base, two pillars, and scaffolding. No glue is required, and the instructions for assembly and connection are illustrated on the back, so anyone can easily assemble it!

The scaffolds can be placed in any position. The scaffolds can be placed in any position, just like a lift that goes up and down.

Assembly video

The assembled size (external dimensions) is 84 mm (W) x 46 mm (D) x 170 mm (H), so it is recommended to prepare a larger size photo booth or case if you want to take pictures or display it.

2. Try to connect them together!

If you have two or more pieces, you can connect them and expand them infinitely. Since we were able to obtain multiple pieces this time, we would like to introduce four types of connection patterns that can be done with two pieces!

First, two-tier connection. A single assembly is connected vertically.

Next is the vertically connected two-tiered model, with the middle base removed and placed on top of the two-tiered model. This is perfect for vertically long kits and figures.

Please note that the vertical joints cannot be connected with the two-stage joints or the horizontal joints!

This is a horizontal connection. This is a horizontally connected figure.

Lastly, horizontal connection. By removing the pillars and scaffolding in between, it is possible to display a wide aircraft! Of course, if you connect three or more pieces, you can make a super-wide base!

We have made a video of the consolidation procedure in the order in which they were introduced. Please take a look at it for reference!

3. Let's decorate it!

Now, let's start decorating the kit! This time, we will use the "G-Frame" series of Shokugan as samples. By the way, the corresponding sizes are as follows,

When stand-alone: 84mm (W) x 46mm (D) x 170mm (H)

When connected horizontally (2 pieces): 184mm (W) x 46mm (D) x 170mm (H)

When connected vertically (2 pieces): 84mm (W) x 46mm (D) x 340mm (H)

So, please grasp the size of the aircraft you wish to display in advance, and ask yourself whether it is possible to display it as a stand-alone unit or not. If it is difficult to display the aircraft by itself, how many can be connected together? If it is difficult, how many pieces can be connected?

A stand-alone display. It looks cool enough by itself!

I removed the parts and displayed it backward. This is an image of a damaged aircraft being repaired.

Two-stage coupling

Horizontal coupling

Horizontal linkage. Suitable for displaying aircraft with wings.

We used four of these to create a large hangar! Wow, it's impressive!

As you can see, you can build a huge hangar by freely combining and expanding the pieces. Depending on your ingenuity, you can display aircraft of various sizes, from HG to MG!

4 Let's paint it!

If you want to make a more realistic hangar, by all means, give it a paint job! So this time, I painted it using canned surfacer (gray) that I had on hand.

*I recommend using canned sprays outside on a sunny day with low humidity and wearing a mask as much as possible to prevent the painted area from turning white and the smell from lingering in the room. In particular, lacquer-type can sprays such as surfacers and color sprays can make you sick if used indoors, and the strong odor lingers for a while, so be careful if you have family members around!

I sprayed it on well so as not to leave any residue, but it looks good! The material is polystyrene, so I was able to paint it with no problems, just like a regular plastic model. The mold is deep enough to give a three-dimensional effect even without smudging!

Let's try adding smudges (for advanced users)!

Since I had a lot of fun, I tried smudging using a dark brown enamel paint. Since the amount of mold is large, I prepared enamel paint, a brush, enamel solvent, and a cotton swab instead of a smudging pen!

Photo of the smudging in progress. You can see that the mold has become more three-dimensional.

The following is a summary of the process from surfacer spraying to smudging. Before applying the smear, a glossy topcoat (water-based) is sprayed on the surface. Just by doing this, the surface becomes shiny and the smear flows easily, making it easier to wipe off with a cotton swab soaked in the solvent. This technique can be applied to Gunpla as well, so please give it a try!

Completed! It looks even more realistic than when it was just sprayed with surfacer.

Comparison with the unpainted state. It looks totally different!

Be careful not to forget to smear or not to wipe off the smear so that it looks clean from all angles!

So, what do you think? It's a dream product that has the strongest cosmetic performance and can also be modified. Let's look forward to Yamada Chemical's future product development!

By the way, after painting, I realized that it might be possible to attach a homemade nameplate to this part of the base. Or, first of all, how about installing electric lights in various parts of the base? I can't stop coming up with ideas! I can't stop coming up with new ideas!

See you soon!
