A new form of "guess life" - getting in shape to meet your guess! Report on "Clara," a personal training gym specializing in women otaku.

Checking out late-night anime, participating in sales events, staying up all night playing games, making cosplay, etc., otaku activities are all about being physically fit.

As a freelance writer, I, Shun Gori, rarely leave the house, and I have recently gained about 5 kg, and my girth is turning into a real gorilla. I feel like I need to do something about it, but I can't even start a diet unless I have a chance to do something about it. When I was searching for a gym, I found "Clara," a personal training gym specialized for otaku women.

Clara's Akihabara studio is located on the 4th floor of the Rakudou Building, about a 10-minute walk from the Showa-dori exit of JR Akihabara Station. The address is Iwamoto-cho, but first-time visitors should refer to the directions in the " Access" section of the official page.

Decorated like an otaku's hobby room?

When you step into Clara, you will see a waiting room and reception area with various posters on the walls, bookshelves filled with manga, and shelves filled with figurines, which is a perfect "otaku's hobby room". The fact that the room is neatly organized, despite the various genres and works on display, may reflect the good taste of the owner, Mr. Saku, the trainer, and the staff.

From standard manga such as "Tennipuri" and "One Piece" to slightly special manga such as "Ghost in the Shell" and "Dorohedoro," the depth of Otaku Jim's staff is quite deep...

Clara's original blend of protein, placed quietly next to the accu-star, reminds you that you have come to the gym to work out, not to hang out with your otaku friends.

The gym space is equipped with full-scale machines and equipment, allowing you to work out every part of your body. By the way, the background music played in the gym is an anime channel from USEN, but if you wish, you can have your own music played, so you can train while listening to your favorite songs.

Is it possible to train while listening to your favorite songs?

Unfortunately, Shun Gori is an otaku man, so I thought it would be impossible for him to give an accurate report, so I asked Director K (a woman) from Akiba Research Institute to come and interview him.
I had told the trainer, Arisa (on the right in the photo), who handled the training this time, that I would ask her to do the same as usual, so the first training session was carefully planned to take about 20 minutes for counseling. It is true that training menus need to be tailored to a person's physical condition, lifestyle, and physical characteristics to be effective, so it is nice to have a thorough counseling session. Moreover, "Clara" also provides daily dietary advice on line, based on materials supervised by a nutritionist, so it seems like a good opportunity to put some life into your otaku lifestyle, which tends to become self-indulgent.

The service is a good opportunity to revitalize one's otaku lifestyle, which is often self-indulgent. The professional trainer is indeed a professional trainer, who sometimes digresses into otaku talk, but also asks about one's daily eating habits and exercise routine during the conversation. By the way, all of the trainers at "Clara" are otaku of some sort, and they understand how otaku feel, so they are very easy to talk to, so even if you are new to training, you won't feel nervous.

Training is the new guessing game!

Once the counseling is over, the training begins right away!
Careful flexibility exercises are performed before starting full-scale training. This is important to avoid injuries and breakdowns. Of course, the counseling is also reflected in the flexibility exercises, with those with stiff shoulders or lower back pain having the exercises done to loosen up the area, and those with injuries or other problems having the exercises done so as not to put too much strain on that area.

For example, the "plank," a core training exercise in which you lie face down with your forearms and elbows on the ground and hold the posture for a certain period of time, may not be effective or may cause injury if not performed in the proper posture and manner, so it is advisable to have a professional trainer give you a thorough guidance. Therefore, it is advisable to have a professional trainer guide you carefully.

During the training, they can also feel like they are being cheered (or pep-talked) by their favorite person by placing their own Axuta in front of them, or by doing sit-ups with a stuffed animal of their favorite person between their legs. The good thing about this gym is that you can bring in your own situations without embarrassment.

In addition, "Clara" has introduced a new training menu called "Ikebo Training.
To motivate otaku girls to work out, popular voice actors of the day, such as Takuya Sato and Atsushi Abe, have recorded special "ikebo" voices, and the trainer plays them during the workout. There are about 30 different voices for each voice actor in various situations, such as being cheered on by a sweet voice or sometimes being angry, so it is enviable that you can focus on training while doing your guesswork and otaku-activities. We at Shun Gori sincerely hope that versions with popular female voice actors will be made for male users as well.

You can listen to a sample of the " Ikebo Training " on the official "Clara" website.

By the way, when Shun Gori heard this "Ikebo Training" voice, even though he is a man, he couldn't help but get excited and said, "This is a good one. ....... If he were a woman, he might have fallen completely .......

Mr. Lack of exercise, Shun Gori is also training!

This time, Shun Gori was specially allowed to participate in the training.

Just standing there, I could see his daily inactivity (especially around his stomach), but I couldn't listen to his excuse, "I look fat, but 90% of my muscles are muscles," so we started training.
I was dizzy after just a few dozen squats because I am usually homebound and completely inactive, but I was very happy to have a trainer show me how to squat in a proper position.

Does this bring me a little closer to returning to cosplay at age 50?

Owner SAKU (middle), trainer Arisa (left), and male (handsome) trainer Shinshin (left), who welcomed us this time, all holding their own guess goods.

The two trainers are also trainers, and they are wearing "Zombieland Saga" hoodies and "Free" T-shirts.

In addition to the Akihabara studio, "Clara" has three other studios in Ikebukuro and one in Shinsaibashi, Osaka, and members can train at any of them. They also rent clothes and towels free of charge, so there is no need to miss a workout when you visit Osaka or Ikebukuro for a guessing game. In addition, starting Friday, March 14, the third voice actor collaboration, Wataru Komada, will appear at "Ikebo Training! If you are interested, why not take a tour?

For other plan details, reservations, and access to each studio, please check the official page.

In the 15th installment of Shungori's Akiba Exploration, we visited Clara, a personal training gym specializing in otaku women, which opened its Akihabara studio in the summer of 2022.

These days, I believe that one's body is one's capital in order to survive on the treacherous road of otakudom, and I don't think I would last long if I had to go to a regular gym and do hard workouts in silence. Clara" is a training gym recommended for such women. If they start offering courses for men, I would love to go there and aim to return to cosplay at the age of 50 with cracked abs.

We will continue to add more Akiba information in the future, so please look forward to it!

YouTuber Shun Gori's activities can also be seen on YouTube.
He is appearing in various places, mainly talking about Taiwan, where he used to immigrate, so please check out his YouTube channel as well!
