What is the Kanda Festival?

The Kanda Festival is one of the three major festivals in Edo and one of the three major festivals in Japan, and is held every two years in the Kanda-Nihonbashi area. Tokugawa Ieyasu prayed to Kanda Myojin for victory in the Battle of Sekigahara, and since the day of his victory fell on the day of the festival, he considered it an auspicious shrine and ordered that the festival be held without interruption.
Kanda Myojin was founded in 730 in the present Otemachi area, and was relocated to its present location in 1616, the guardian of the Omote Onimon gate of Edo Castle.
