Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken", a manga series that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1989 to 1996, will be adapted into an anime in the fall of 2020.

Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken" is the first long-term serialized manga bearing the RPG "Dragon Quest" series. With a total of more than 47 million copies of the manga in print, it is still a much-loved work.

The story begins with a scene in which peace is restored to a world afflicted by the Demon King Hadrah, thanks to a swordsman called "Yusha" and his friends. Time passes, and the story takes place on the isolated island of Delmurin in the South Sea, where monsters live after being freed from the Demon King. The only human on the island, a boy named "Dai," who longs to be a hero, lives peacefully with the monsters. However, his daily life changes drastically when the Demon King Hadrah returns. To save the world, which is once again in danger, the adventures of Dai, a boy who aspires to be a hero, begin.

An animated version was made in 1991-92, and the new anime is said to be a hybrid of CG and animated drawings that will be presented in a powerful way.

Comments (original in Japanese)
Original story: Riku Sanjo
I want "Dai no Daiboken" to be animated again with the latest technology! We have heard the voices of those of the real-time generation, and in 2020, that dream will finally come true! The readers of the series are now old enough to create their own works. I was moved just listening to the passionate talk of the staff. I am now looking forward to the day when Dai and his team will return once again!

Manga: Koji Inada
I hope that this work will be of interest to people who are learning about "Dai no Daiboken" for the first time, as well as to those who already know the story. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new anime of Dai and his friends will move around, since it seems that the production method has changed in many ways from the previous anime.

Original idea: Yuji Horii
In adapting "Dragon Quest" into a comic book, we wanted to keep the same world view, but make it a different story from the game. With this concept in mind, we asked Mr. Sanjo and Mr. Inada to create a comic adaptation. It was also adapted into an anime at the time, but after a long time, it is now being adapted into an anime again, using the latest techniques available today. I cannot be happier than this. I am full of anticipation. I can't wait to see it!
