The perfect toy kit for beginners! I made the "World Warship Kit vol.2", which allows you to enjoy a real ship model at a reasonable price! Recommended! Shokugan Road Vol.5

Hello everyone! This is Kariyasu☆, a hobby writer. In this corner, I will be reviewing, modifying, and playing with Shokugan kits that interest me, under the theme of "Shokugan for adults. In this fifth installment, we will be looking at the "World Warship Kit Vol. 2," which is currently on sale from EF Toys!

The "World Warship Kit" is a pre-painted toy kit that allows you to easily assemble and play with both Japanese and foreign warships. 1/2000 scale is perfect for collecting, and both waterline and full hull versions are available.

Full hull = English modeling term for reproducing the entire hull (Full).

Vol. 1 was a battleship and a heavy cruiser, but this time, three types of six Japanese and American medium-size aircraft carriers that were active in the Pacific War are featured. Each ship is painted differently for both the ocean-going and full-hull versions, so there are a total of 12 types to collect!

The contents are quite simple and can be completed quickly. The offshore version comes with a corrugated base, while the full-hull version comes with a display stand, allowing you to display them in style. Below are the six ships.

Yorktown (CV-5), the first ship of the Yorktown class. Nicknamed "Old Yorkie," this aircraft carrier was famously sunk by the submarine I168 during the Battle of Midway. Attached aircraft are F4F Wildcat, SBD Dauntless, and TBD Devastator.

The second ship of the Yorktown class, Enterprise (CV-6). Nicknamed "Big E" and "Lucky E," the Enterprise was a war hero who fought to the end of the war despite repeated shipwrecks. The Enterprise comes with different aircraft for both the ocean-going and full-hull versions (F6F Hellcat, SB2C Helldiver, and TBF Avenger for the ocean-going version, and F4F Wildcat, SB2C Helldiver, and TBF Avenger for the full-hull version). The full-hull version includes F4F Wildcat, SBD Dauntless, and TBD Devastator).

The third ship of the Yorktown class, the Hornet (CV-8). The F4F Wildcat, SBD Dauntless, TBD Devastator, and B-25 Mitchell are included to recreate the Doolittle raid.

Soryu (left) and Hiryu (right). These two quasi-sister ships played an active role in the early stages of the war, and both ships were sunk in the Battle of Midway. The aircrafts included in the kit are the Zero-sen Type 21, the Type 99 Bakuhatsu, and the Type 97 Battleship Offensive. The Soryu has been smudged, so you can see that it looks more three-dimensional than the Hiryu.

Sumiage (......) is a technique in which enamel paints are diluted with a special solvent and poured into the concave areas of the model to darken them and give them a three-dimensional appearance. Once you experience the sensation of the paint flowing smoothly through the capillary action, it is inevitable that you will become addicted to it!

The first ship of the Unryu class, Unryu. Completed in 1944 during the latter half of the war, it was sunk by a lightning attack from the submarine Redfish while on a transport mission without having a chance to participate in the actual battle. Attached to the ship were the Shiden Kai, the Ryusei, and the Saiun. The Sakurabana, a suicide weapon that was carried during the transport mission, is also included, allowing you to recreate the state of the ship just before it sank.

Draw the wave and make it into a mini diorama.

Using the ocean-going version of the Hornet, try building a mini-diorama of the ship running on the sea surface. To make the wave base look more like a sea surface, I painted it with clear green Tamiya acrylics and glued the Hornet to it (the base on the right is the wave base as it is). (The corrugated base is left as it is on the right.) It looks cool even as it is, giving it an atmosphere of being at anchor.

I painted the waves with white Tamiya enamel paint. I recommend using enamel paints because even if you make a mistake, you can correct it by using a solvent. It is not difficult, so please refer to the photo of an actual warship running on the surface of the sea and try your hand at it!

Now, which warship will be released in the third series? We hope this series will be the start of more warship fans!
