AKIRA 4K Remastered Set" from the legendary work "AKIRA" that rocked the world will be released in April 2020. In addition, a new "AKIRA" animation project was announced for the commemorative year in which the film was set.

AKIRA" was serialized in Kodansha's manga magazine "Weekly Young Magazine" from 1982 to 1990, and was adapted into an anime and video game in 1988, creating a huge boom. It has influenced creators in Japan, the U.S., and other countries around the world, and is still highly supported as a masterpiece of authentic science fiction action.

The new anime adaptation project of "AKIRA" was announced this time. Details will be announced as soon as they are finalized.

It was also decided that "AKIRA 4K Remastered Set" will be released on April 24, 2020.

The 4K scan, 4K remastering, and HDR conversion will vividly reproduce the information on the 35mm master positive film and show NEO TOKYO in its original form.
The 5.1ch sound source has also been remastered by music director Shoji Yamashiro, and includes a completely new sound source that has been further ultra-processed from 192kHz, so be sure to check it out.


In addition, a new movie "ORBITAL ERA" will be directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, the original writer and director of "AKIRA".
The film is set in 2019, the year of "AKIRA," a milestone in science fiction animation that has had a profound influence on later works, and expectations are high for the development of a project that will allow viewers to enjoy the science fiction world spun by Katsuhiro Otomo in a new way.

Another major Otomo topic is the launch of "OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS" project by Kodansha. The theme of this project is to produce a completely new collection of Otomo's works, which will be edited and composed by Otomo himself, and will allow visitors to read the trajectory of his creation and thoughts from the birth of the artist "Katsuhiro Otomo".

OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS" contains all of Otomo's works and statements, in chronological order, from his debut as an artist in 1971. This project, which could be called "all" of "Katsuhiro Otomo" beyond the term "complete works," is also aimed at publication not only in Japan but also around the world, as one of its themes is "for all young artists and readers. <STORY
In July 1988, a new type of bomb was used in the Kanto area and World War III broke out.
Thirty-one years later - in 2019 - Neo Tokyo, a megalopolis built on Tokyo Bay, is regaining its former prosperity with the Olympics to be held the following year.
Kaneda, the leader of a group of healthy juvenile delinquents, has been riding his motorcycle in this devastated city, running amok and fighting with others. One night, his fellow member Tetsuo encounters a strange experimental boy during a runaway and is knocked down and injured. In front of the stunned Kaneda and his friends, they are taken away to a military laboratory.
Kaneda attempts to infiltrate the laboratory to rescue Tetsuo. However, there he sees the insane Tetsuo, who has awakened to new "powers" due to excessive human experimentation.
Meanwhile, in a special baby room at the institute, a young experimental subject predicts the awakening of "Top Secret Akira.
Tetsuo begins to approach the "Akira" that lies deep underground in order to get closer to the mystery of his own power...
