Spoiler Alert] In commemoration of the release of the movie "Frame Arms Girl: Kyakkyaufuna Wonderland! A must-read guide to the highlights of the movie that will make you want to see it again! A talk with director Keiichiro Kawaguchi and producer Manabu Sugiyama (Part 2)
Frame Arms Girl" is a story about the emotions of an ordinary high school girl, Ao Gennai, who lives with her fully autonomous mini-sized robots, the FA (Frame Arms) Girls, through her daily life. The movie, which reconstructs the TV series with new scenes, is currently being released to favorable reviews.
The film is a lively look back at the slapstick memories of Ao and the FA Girls in the form of an audio commentary, but it also has an appealing song-show-like atmosphere, showing not only new live scenes featuring all the FA Girls, but also plenty of live scenes using character songs that made a huge impact in the last episode of the TV series. The atmosphere of the movie is like a singing show, which is also appealing.
In this second part of the interview, director Keiichiro Kawaguchi and producer Manabu Sugiyama talk about the highlights of the "Frame Arms Girl: Kyakkyaufuna Wonderland" movie from the staff's point of view.
OP with SE, just like a giant robot story
Kawaguchi: Looking back on the TV series, what scenes did you want to include?
Kawaguchi: In the final episode, when everyone lends their strength to Todoroki and fights Fleswerk Artell (Fles), it's a scene of "friendship, effort, and victory. Well, that part will never be cut (laughs). I also wanted to include the tag-team battle between the Materia sisters and Todoroki and Stiletto in episode 3, because I thought it would be better to have a lot of cool scenes for the theaters. I wanted to include the tag-team battle between the Materia sisters and Todoroki and Stiletto in episode 3! (Everyone laughed).
Sugiyama: We want people to want to buy the models after seeing them! (laughs).
Kawaguchi: Also, this movie has an explosion soundtrack in the OP, which I had hoped to include in the last episode of the TV series, but I wasn't able to do so (laughs).
Kawaguchi──This is just like a robot anime, isn't it (laughs)?
Kawaguchi: That's right! So from the very beginning, there is a sense of "I did it! (laughs). Also, the sound was redone in 5.1 channel this time, so if you see it in a movie theater, you will notice that the sound effects are quite different. For the ED, we included as much as possible of the sub episodes from the TV show that could not be included in the movie, such as the story involving Ao's childhood memories (TV episode 8, part B).
─ You are also credited as an original picture man for the new part, as is Kosuke Kawamura, who designed the characters.
Kawaguchi: This is the part where Aoto and Takekiko sing. He drew a picture of the two spinning around like a billboard in time with the song. He wanted to draw a lot of pictures, so there are more pictures than in the storyboards. Also, Daisuke Kitagawa, a key animator for the TV show, drew the non-character drawings. ...... There are many cuts that only Kitagawa-san could draw, such as making a plastic model (laughs), so it is like a collaboration between the two of them. (Laughs) It's like a collaboration between the two of us. I hope you enjoy this part of the film.
Sugiyama: Aoto and Takekiko didn't have a song in the TV series, so I wanted to make one for them. I asked the director, "What kind of song would you like? I asked the director what kind of song he wanted, and he said, "I want it to have a Showa-era feel.
Kawaguchi: So I ordered a song like "Beauty Pair" (a female professional wrestler duo who became popular in the late 70s and were also active as singers). (Laughs.) The way they crossed their arms in the stanza also makes them look like a beauty pair. ...... haha! But Kawamura-kun didn't know Beauty Pair at all. Their song is really good, too.
─ ─ By the way, in the new part at the beginning, what is the design of the box with the Udorra pattern that Dr. Materia is holding?
Kawaguchi: Tatsunobu Inazu did the original design, but I used the Udora notebook from Kotobukiya's goods as a reference.
Sugiyama: We asked him to use Udora's notebook.
Kawaguchi: We also designed the holes to be session-based. We thought that if we did that, it would surely be commercialized (laughs).
Sugiyama I see! (laughs) The reason why we wanted to use that box to promote Udora is because it is an item that goes into a hole, so we wanted to tie it to the Udo room (a hole in the ground for udo cultivation)! I wanted to include one of those hard-to-understand stories that only the completely advanced Tachikawa users would understand! (laughs) That's why I said "with the udora pattern" for that box.
Kawaguchi: I had no idea about that part myself.
