If you watch this movie, you will become a parental idiot! For the sake of my daughter, I might even be able to defeat the Demon King. Interview with Kanon Takao (Latina) and Nobuhiko Okamoto (Dale)
The popular TV anime "For the sake of my daughter, I might even be able to defeat the Demon King." (hereafter referred to as "Our Musume.") One day, an adventurer, Dale, receives a request from an adventurer in the forest. One day, Dale, an adventurer who receives a request, meets Latina, a girl of the demon tribe, in the forest. Unable to abandon her painful appearance, Dale decides to raise her as his "guardian" ....... This is a fantasy work.
Dale's love for Latina grows day by day, and before he knows it, he is "doting" on her! Even the last boss would fall for Latina!
Kanon Takao, who plays Latina, and Nobuhiko Okamoto, who plays Dale, talk about the highlights of this work and how cute Latina is!
⇒The list of 2019 summer anime!
The vector of cuteness, "just being there is cute", was fresh for me (Okamoto).
--What were your feelings when you were chosen for the role?
Takao: I had my own idea of Latina's age when I was auditioning for the role, but I was told on the spot that I could play it a little younger, so I made changes on the spot. I was very happy when I was given the role! However, I knew from reading the original story that Latina is loved by all the characters, so I spent a lot of time thinking about how I could play the role and how I could make them love me. I spent a lot of time thinking about it before recording.
Okamoto: At first, I thought it would be a so-called "harem" work with many cute girls. I thought it would be a so-called "harem work" with lots of cute girls, but it was totally different. I remember the original author, Mr. Chiroru, told me, "Dale is just fine as long as he gets weird" (laughs). (Laughs.) Like Kanane, I was a bit worried about how I should play the role. I was a little worried.
--You can get a glimpse of Dale's character in the PV currently on view on the official website.
Okamoto: It's a great video that shows that "for Latina's sake, I will show no mercy to anyone" (laughs).
--(laughs) - What do you think of the worldview of the work?
Takao: From the title, I expected that there would be a lot of battle scenes. But I was a little surprised to find out that it is actually a heartwarming story of "everyone watching over Latina's growth. There were some heartless people in the story, but everyone was very "kind" anyway. I really enjoyed how the story progressed in a heartwarming atmosphere.
Okamoto: The vector of cuteness was fresh. It was eye-opening to see that there is a way to show that "just being there is cute". Latina is an "idol," if you will. I thought the composition of everyone loving her was amazing.
--From the very beginning of the story, a unique language such as "the language of the demon tribe" and "the language of spells" appear in this work.
Takao: In the original story, it is written in such a way that you can't understand what it is said, so I wondered "how is this pronounced? But the script I received from the company provided me with katakana, and I was able to perform with the intonation I had in mind, so it was surprisingly not a difficult task. In other words, it was like an English textbook.
Okamoto: You mentioned English. For example, "I have a pen. Do the verbs come first or the nouns?" I was also personally concerned about this, but I pronounced it with the intention of making this word official myself, and it worked.
But the spell chanting was a bit difficult. I had to say the Japanese (sub-speech) after the spell language, and the lengths had to be matched. It was difficult to keep time.
--Did you have any other difficulties in performing?
Takao: The sound director, Mr. Masaki Tsuchiya, told me in advance not to bring out any mockery in my performance, so I went through a trial-and-error process during the post recording to bring out the cuteness that came out of the real Latina.
--As the story progresses, Latina also grows, but was it difficult to change the way you played her?
Takao: I was suddenly told, "Latina, from next week on, you have to start acting more mature" (laughs). (Laughs.) She has always been a strong character, but I imagined in my own way that a strong core would come out in addition to that, and when I played the role, she complimented me, saying, "You're really mature! I was relieved when she complimented me on my performance.
--Did you have anything in mind for Dale's performance?
Okamoto: He lived the same age as Latina, but I didn't consciously change anything. However, even from the script, I could sense a bit of leeway in him, like "It's natural that he's cute" (laughs).
--Laughs] - Latina's cuteness and Dale's parental foolishness are featured in the film.
Takao: Of course there are such scenes, but basically Dale is the one who brings the punchline. ...... (laughs). (Laughs) I think the feature of this work, "My Daughter," is that you will feel happy after watching it. I think that is a feature of this work.
--What was the most impressive moment in the postrecording?
Okamoto: I probably shouldn't say this too loudly, but there is a certain actor with a big mustache who is ....... When he gives Kanade-chan advice, people around him always say, "You can't talk to her! When he gives advice to Kanade-chan, the people around him always say, "You can't talk to her!
Takao: Of course, everyone is joking about it (laughs). I sometimes come directly from high school to the recording studio and often wear my school uniform (Takao-san is a high school student!). ). Because of that, I seem to have created a kind of so-called "suspicious" (talking to) character. ......
Okamoto: (A co-star with a big mustache said to me, "Why don't you shave your mustache?") (A co-star with a huge mustache) said, "Why don't you shave your mustache? (Laughs) Thanks to the mood-makers like that, we were able to have fun during the postrecording!
A heartwarming story of "everyone watching over Latina's growth" (Takao)
--The two of you also sang the theme song for your respective roles. First of all, Mr. Takao, who sang the OP theme song "I'm with you," please give us your impression of the recording process.
Takao: When I first heard the song, it sounded cool and refreshing, so I didn't know if I should sing it like the Latina in the play or sing it seriously. When I went to the recording site, I was told, "Please sing as the better Latina today," and I was like, "Yes, I understand" (laughs).
The melody line starts lower than Latina's voice, so I wondered how I should sing this part, but I was told to "sing it without worrying about my age," so I sang it as if I was the grown-up Latina looking back on her past.
--Okamoto-san sang the ED theme "This is brave, but sorry! How did you feel when you sang the ED theme, "This is a brave man, but I'm sorry!
Okamoto: The note spacing was pleasant, and the lyrics were about Latina, which made the song fun to sing. We call the fans who come to our events "guardians," and I think the guardians will also feel good when they sing the song.
But more importantly, the picture that plays in the background of this song is amazing! It's like a "growth diary" with Latina in various outfits, so it's worth a look (laughs)!
--Dale's "parental stupidity" is one of the keywords of this work.
Takao: My father, who is the daughter of my father, was a "parental idiot" as soon as he decided to appear in "My Daughter. He read the whole original story and said, "Latina's so cute! and changed his phone's standby screen to Latina. Perhaps I am a "parental idiot" to the extent that even Dale is not a match for me (laughs).
Okamoto: When I was a child, I once went shopping with my mother to a department store located a short distance from our house, but we got separated from her there. I tried to get home on my own, but I couldn't find my way. I somehow managed to tell the police officer at the police box my home phone number and asked him to call my father, who was relaxing at home. He immediately rushed to the police station and we went home together.
My father was very cool at that time. It may not be the same as "parental stupidity," but it is an unforgettable memory.
--If Latina appeared in front of you two, how would you raise her?
Takao: I can't cook at all. There is a scene in the film where she is peeling potatoes, and I thought to myself, "Latina, you are amazing! I probably have more to learn from you than you do from me (laughs).
Okamoto: It's scary to let her go out because of the horns. ...... You have to hide them well with ribbons. Also, I can use recovery magic, so I would like her to heal her body after a hard day's work. Maybe it only works on external wounds, though (laughs).
--What do you two think is the appeal of Latina?
Takao: I think it's the fact that even though she is pampered by those around her, she keeps a strong desire to improve, saying, "I still have things I don't have enough of, so I want to grow up as soon as possible. Also, the fact that her mouth looks like an "omega" when she eats is simply adorable (laughs).
Okamoto: I think it was good that all the people at the "Dancing Tiger Cat Pavilion," where Dale and Latina are staying, are good people. I think the fact that she was able to grow up without having to choose between the good people and the bad people was what made her so appealing!
--Lastly, please tell us again about the highlights of the film.
Takao: Latina studies at a place called "Gakusha," and watching her interactions with her classmates really warms my heart. One of her friends is a boy named Rudy (played by Mutsuki Tamura), and he teases Latina. He is a bit of a tease to Latina, but that's because he has feelings for her. It's exactly the kind of attitude a small child would have toward a girl he likes, and it made me feel very warm and fuzzy!
We will be learning more about Latina's past, and her reactions as she comes into contact with various things in the world with Dale are all adorable, so please give her lots of love. Please love her a lot!
Okamoto: I am Latina's parents, especially her father Ragu. How did he end up like that? I think that people who have seen the film are probably wondering about that too. I am also very curious about it! As Kanane said, "My daughter. is a story about watching Latina grow up, so I would like everyone to focus on that. I hope you will join me in becoming a "guardian" as well!
