Before I knew it, I was able to sing along with the songs more easily and naturally than ever before. Interview with Yuka Iguchi, 13th single "HELLO to DREAM
Yuka Iguchi released a single "HELLO to DREAM", the title track of which is the opening theme song of the anime "Dungeon ni Meets Me Wrong II". She talked to us about the new song, which she sings along with "Danmachi," and about her current state of mind as she works with trepidation on the full-fledged dance she will perform at "LIVE & TALK HELLO to 31" for the first time in a long time.
The "Danmachi" song marks the second time he and Heroism have teamed up for a song!
───Iguchi-san's involvement with the "Dungeon" anime "It's Wrong to Seek an Encounter in a Dungeon" began when the 4th single "Hey World" was chosen as the opening song for the first season of "Danmachi. That was four years ago.
Iguchi: That's right. And of the two previous singles released on the same day, "Under the Same Sky" was also entrusted to me as the theme song for "Dungeon Town the Movie: Orion's Arrow".
─ ─ This time, too, the title song "HELLO to DREAM" is the opening theme song for the anime "It would be wrong to seek encounters in a dungeon II. And for Mr. Iguchi, it was the second time to work with Hiroism, a lyricist and composer who also has the title "of NEWS and Tegomas".
Iguchi: This is the second time since "GREEN ROAD" from our 2nd album "az you like...". This time, the director, Mr. Kabuto, said to me, "We want to ask a wonderful lyricist and composer who can add more momentum to the big work "Danmachi". How about working with Hiroism again? I said, "By all means! I said, "By all means!
─ ─ Each of your "Danmachi" songs is written by different lyricists and composers, and they all express the world and story of the work, while at the same time bringing out the charm of the person you are at the time.
Iguchi: The composer not only expresses the role-playing game world of "Danmachi" and the dungeon and fantasy aspects of the work, but also places importance on the "universal story of the main character's encounter and growth" that is the essence of "Danmachi". Therefore, I sing every time thinking that there are many things that are linked to the work, to the listeners, and to myself.
─ ─ The lyrics of "Hello to Dream" also remind me of the lyrics of your previous Danmachi songs.
Iguchi: The phrase "Tears that pour out unceasingly, surely they will shine someday" is reminiscent of "Hey World," "If you want to cry, just cry, the tears will dry up," and "Under the same sky" may be reminiscent of "Under the same sky. I didn't get a chance to talk to Mr. Hiroism, so I don't know if that was actually his intention, but I'm glad to think that he checked my previous singles before writing this one.
─ ─ I would be happy if it was an intentional link, but it would also be wonderful if it was a coincidental link.
Iguchi: That's right.
I am now able to approach recording without being too defensive.
─ As a singer, were you conscious of the "Danmachi" style that is common to your previous songs?
Iguchi: I didn't go into the recording without being overly conscious of the "Danmachi" theme. I was grateful for the responsibility of being entrusted with the opening song for a series of major productions, but I was not conscious of "I was entrusted with a major role, so I should sing this way" or "I should sing the same way I have sung in the past". I was not conscious of "singing this way because I was given a major role" or "singing the same way I have sung in the past." I saw from the song's fast pace and lyrics that the main character in the story of the song and Mr. Bell were moving forward. I honestly think that I sang the song while overlapping myself and the people who came to the concert with them. That's not how I intended to sing the song, but when I sang along with the song, I guess it naturally became like "Danmachi".
─ I guess there are songs that take time to decide how to sing after facing the song, but how was "HELLO to DREAM"?
Iguchi: It went very easily, including the coupling. I think we spent more time chatting before and after the recording than after. ...... I wonder why? Maybe I had been worrying about it too much until now. When I think about it now, at the beginning of my debut, I was thinking, "How should I sing? How should I express myself? I had no confidence or experience, so I was probably very anxious about "what to do, what to do ......".
─ ─ You don't have that anxiety now?
Iguchi: When I listen to a song, I can now say to myself, "This is how I want to sing. Also, since when, I started to do "pre-production," which is a test recording to check the singing style and arrangement before the actual performance. We could then try out the singing style and discuss it with each other. This allowed us to carefully sing the songs in the direction we had decided on, without having to go through a trial-and-error process for the actual recording.
─ I heard that you had time to chat with the staff before you started singing on the day of the recording.
Iguchi: We didn't have that kind of time prepared, but it was hard to get started naturally (laughs). It was as if we had been assigned to different positions, and someone brought snacks for each song on each recording day. So we would spend an hour eating them and chatting about what had happened recently. When we had finished eating our snacks, we would say, "Well, we should get to work," and start recording. Maybe that helped me relax. But it happened naturally, not as a ritual to relax. I no longer feel like, "I'm going to start recording! I don't feel like I'm getting ready to start recording anymore.
─ ─ After your 5th anniversary as an artist, have you been able to start singing in a natural way, rather than switching on and off with a snap?
Iguchi: I think so. Finally (laughs).
─ ─ Unlike the current Mr. Iguchi, I had the impression that you used to be more troubled.
Iguchi: I don't worry about personal matters, but there are many people involved in the work, not just me. ...... The staff members said that as long as I could do what I wanted to do, it was the right thing to do, but I wondered if we were really going in the same direction, or if the song was finished but would it fit in well with the animation when it came out, or if the image of the original work had been lost, or if this way of singing was the right way. I was worried about whether I was singing in the right way or not, or whether I could do more. ......
─ ─ But from what you have said so far, it doesn't seem that there was some clear trigger that made you feel less anxious.
Iguchi: Yes, that is true. It seems that there was never anything like, "I got over it right then and there! I never felt like I had a "I got over it right then and there" moment. Hmmm, I wonder why? But in my life, until then, when I was in doubt, I often asked someone to tell me what to do. But after I turned 30, I realized that "even if someone tells me what to do, in the end it is up to me," and I stopped relying too much on others and worrying too much about their opinions (laughs).
─ ─ That is something you have "learned to do well" in your artistic activities. On the other hand, can you think of anything that you are still struggling to get right?
Iguchi: What is it that you are having trouble with ......? There are a lot of things that I want to do better from now on, but I think that the issues in front of me that I can't do this now are getting fewer. ......
─ ─ The fact that you are focusing not on what is in front of you, but on what is going to happen in the future, should make your fans' expectations grow.
Iguchi: I hope so (laughs).
