Enjoy Popular Arranged Songs from "Touhou Project! Rhythmic puzzle game "Touhou Spell Bubble" for Switch will be released in February!

Taito announced that "Touhou Spell Bubble," a derivative work based on "Touhou Project," will be released as a Switch title on the Nintendo eShop in February 2020. This title is exclusively available for download and will be priced at 5,800 yen (tax included).

This title is a rhythmical puzzle game based on a bubble-shooting style puzzle in which the player plays balls to make them disappear by matching the same color, with added rhythm game elements. The basic idea is to shoot "colored balls" while riding the music to erase balls of the same color. However, the game also includes elements such as a "beat 'em up part" that allows players to send gray "obstacle balls" to their opponents if they succeed, and "spell cards" with powerful effects, which allow players to recover from a bad position. Popular "Touhou" characters such as Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame also make appearances. In the "Story Mode" that has been released, scenes of them talking to each other can be seen.

Furthermore, this title features artists of Touhou arrangements, including the music unit Yūketsu Satellite, and features a splendid lineup of voice actors, including Uesaka Sumire and Sakura Ayane.

The game is played by shooting colored balls and connecting three or more of the same color to erase them.

If you connect and erase a large number of colored balls at once, you will enter the "beat and shoot" part, in which you must press the buttons at the right time to the rhythm of the song. By erasing colored balls and successfully completing the "beat 'em up" part, you can send many gray "obstacle balls" to interfere with your opponent's puzzles.


After a certain amount of time has elapsed, "Spell Cards" can be activated, which can be used to advance the game. The "Ni Hyaku Yushun no Isshin" spell card by Yumu Konpaku can cut off colored balls from the top five rows or lower.

The Taito sound team "ZUNTATA" (ZUNTATA) will be distributing a live YouTube program "Monthly ZUNTATA NIGHT January - Touhou Spell Bubble Special" on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 8pm.
