On July 19, 2019 (Friday), the first day of the "55th ANNIVERSARY Toms Anime Summer Festival 2019," a "Magic Knight Rayearth" anime broadcast 25th anniversary event was held at the EJ Anime Theater Shinjuku. The official report has arrived and will be introduced below.
The official report is as follows.
On July 19, 2019, the first day of the "55th ANNIVERSARY Toms Anime Summer Festival 2019," a "Magic Knight Rayearth" anime broadcast 25th anniversary event was held at EJ Anime Theater Shinjuku. The talk show and mini live performance featured Hekiru Shiina as Hikaru Shido, Konami Yoshida as Umi Ryusaki, Hiroko Kasahara as Kaze Hououji, and Naomi Tamura, who sang the opening theme song.
The talk show was moderated by Yuko Gitake, who says she is from the "Magic Knight Rayearth" "Strike Generation. Hekiru Shiina, Konami Yoshida, and Hiroko Kasahara took the stage to loud applause! How have you been?" and greeted the audience in a light voice, which further excited the audience.
When asked about her impressions and memories of the first TV anime episode "The Legendary Magic Night Begins," Ms. Kasahara replied, "I missed the scene where Hikaru, Umi, and Kaze meet at the Tokyo Tower. It wasn't as if there was a connection somewhere, but it was really a coincidence," he said, commenting again on his impressions of the first episode.
I was so thrilled to be given the role of Umi that I hardly remember the first day of postrecording," said Yoshida, who recounted an episode in which the audition at the time was held with a group of three people: Hikari, Umi, and Kaze (a candidate for the role of Kaze). I still remember it well. When I auditioned, the role of Hikaru was played by Hekiru-chan! I felt that the staff took the relationship between the characters and the balance of their voices into consideration, so I was very happy when I got the part.
Ms. Shiina said, "At the time, I was a newcomer who had just graduated from high school. When I was allowed to enter the production site, I was so nervous because all the people there had played the main roles or main characters in various productions that all I could do was look at the floor (laughs).
Episode 19 "Confrontation! Magic Knight vs. Zagato" is the climax of the first chapter and is the episode in which a shocking revelation is made for the three magic knights. When asked how far in advance he knew of the future developments at the time of recording, Mr. Yoshida replied, "CLAMP-sensei sometimes came to the site and talked to us, but there were many things we did not know about the future developments. But I think that's why we were able to synchronize with Umi and the others." Kasahara answered, "As was the case from the first episode, Kaze-chan is calm and firm. If it had been me who was summoned by Cefiro, I don't think I would have been able to make the same calm decisions and say and do the same things as Kaze-chan, so I remember it was very difficult to play her.
The topic then turned to episodes from the recording sessions. Ms. Yoshida said, "When I heard Kaze-chan call out, 'Healing wind! the staff said, "It's really refreshing, like a gentle breeze. I still remember them saying, "It's like a Florida breeze,"" Shiina said with a laugh. I also remember how close Konami-san and Ferio (played by Takumi Yamazaki) were.
In response, Mr. Yoshida said, "Takumi-kun and I both like to drink, so we often went out drinking together. We talked about having fun on the set as an extension of that." He told us about an episode when Shiina-san and Kasahara-san, who rarely drink alcohol, were not present.
While "Magical Knight Rayearth" is a "magical girl story," one of its charms is that the love lives of the three main characters are carefully depicted. When the topic turned to the love lives of the characters, Shiina said, "In the first chapter, Hikaru didn't have any such feelings and just hung out with Mokona (laughs). Sound director Yasuo Urakami also commented, "Hikaru is an honest child, and when it comes to fighting, he just goes along with it. I wanted him to show that side of himself. I don't think I even noticed that Kaze and Ferio were getting along so well," said Mr. Yoshida! I was so surprised to see how things would turn out when we really beat Zagato! I was as surprised as the sea at the truth of the other world of Cefiro. Kasahara-san said, "I cried when I watched the screening because I realized once again that it was because of Hikaru-chan's purity that Umi and Kaze were able to keep up with him.
While Kaze has a partner in Ferio and Hikari has a partner in Lantis ......, Zagato's younger brother who appears in the second part, "I was surprised when I found out that Umi's love interest was not Ascot but Clef," said Yoshida. At first I thought it was Ascot, so I sat near Minami Takayama (who played Ascot) on the set, but then I started sitting near Nozomu Sasaki (who played Clef) (laughs)," he said, recounting an episode on the set.
Shiina-san asked, "How did Umi become attracted to Clef?" Mr. Yoshida continued by recalling an episode when he wrote the lyrics to Umi's image song, "Yumeiro no Tsubasa. When I was asked to write lyrics for a song with a love motif for the character of Umi, I suddenly thought of the episode in episode 4 when she learns to be a "water dragon. Clef, who has been turned to stone by Zagato's power, speaks to the ocean with the help of Mokona. Imagining how the ocean felt at that time, the lyric "If your words overflow, I can fly away without fear of losing" was born.
Ms. Yoshida added, "Of course it is important to do something to fulfill one's own dreams and goals, but I like stories in which people do their best for others. The episode in which I was able to acquire magical powers with the sole intention of saving Hikaru left a deep impression on me.
The talk, which never stops, finally came to an end. When asked, "What do Hikari, Umi, and Kaze mean to you?" Shiina answered, "They are so important to me that I can call them my cells and soul. I don't think I will ever lose Hikari's presence in my life. Ms. Yoshida said, "When I looked at the notebook I was using at the time, the day I passed the audition and was chosen for the role of Umi was marked with a flower circle. Ever since then, the character has always been important to me," agreed Mr. Kasahara. I am deeply moved to think that along with the connection between Hikaru and the three of us, a connection between the three of us was also born. I hope you will continue to support "Rayearth" in the future.
The final performer was Naomi Tamura, who sang the opening theme song "Yuzarenai Wish" for the film. She sang the opening theme song, "Yuzarenai Wish! Rayearth" is still one of my favorite works. I'm glad so many people have sung "Yuzurenai Wish," and I'm still singing it! The single "Yuzurenai Wish" was released on November 9, 1994, so this November will be the 25th anniversary of this song. We are planning to have a live concert around that time! He then sang "Yuzurenai Wish" in high spirits.
For the last part of the event, the three cast members took the stage again, and Ms. Shiina said, "I am so happy that so many people have gathered here and told me that they love "Rayearth" even 25 years after it was broadcasted. Hikaru always kept saying that belief is power, and by not giving up until the end, he made his dream come true. Later, as I grew up, I fulfilled many of my dreams. So I hope that you will do the same, and follow the words "Belief is power! And please don't forget the words "Magic Knight Rayearth. He then fired a "flaming arrow" into the audience! The event ended with thunderous cheers and applause.
