The voice actors who will provide Japanese dubbing for the live-action movie "Sonic the Movie," which will be released in Japan on March 27, 2020 (Friday), have been announced. The lead role of Sonic will be played by actor Taishi Nakagawa.

Sonic is the main character of "Sonic the Hedgehog" and the Mega Drive action game series released by Sega Enterprises (now Sega Games Co., Ltd.) in 1991. Sonic is still one of Sega's most popular characters, and his popularity is split in two with Nintendo's Mario. A live-action Hollywood movie based on Sonic's character will be released this spring.

The voice actors who will be dubbing the Japanese language for this film have been announced. Sonic will be played by Daishi Nakagawa, who became a national actor with his role in NHK's morning drama "Natsuzora. Koichi Yamadera will play Dr. Robotnik, an evil genius scientist who is after Sonic, Yuichi Nakamura will play Sonic's partner, Sheriff Tom, and Marina Inoue will play Tom's wife, Maddie.

Mr. Nakagawa has looked up to Mr. Yamadera as his mentor ever since they appeared together on a variety show. Mr. Nakagawa, who will be working with Yamadera-san for the first time as a voice actor, commented, "I am very excited to have Yamadera-san listen to my sonic voice! I am very excited to have Yamadera-san listen to my Sonic! Yamadera-san, who actually heard the dubbed voice of Sonic, said, "Taishi is a great guy! I was surprised when I first heard about this project. I played Sonic games when I was little and loved the character. I was worried and scared that I wouldn't be good enough, but I was happy that the team that created Sonic's character said it was okay for me to do his voice. I decided to do my best and be confident in what I was going to do.
I was very nervous to have my sonic voice heard by Yamadera-san, whom I respect very much, since I basically recorded alone! The cool and cool image of Sonic that people around the world have of him plays a big role in this movie, but he is also very pure, straight, and kind, and I think you will come to like him more and more. It is the kind of movie that makes you see Sonic more deeply from various angles!

I have known since I was in junior high school that Daishi is a genius, so I still think he is a "big deal" (laughs). (Laughs.) He has a great talent to challenge anything and clear it successfully.
