Kyoto Prefectural Police Release 10 of the Kyoto Animation Arson Murder Victims--Yasuhiro Takemoto, Taishi Nishiya, and Others

On August 2, 2019, the Kyoto Prefectural Police Investigation Headquarters announced the names of the 10 people killed in the Kyoto Animation arson and murder case that occurred onJuly18,2019in Kyoto Prefecture.

On August 2, two weeks after the Kyoto Animation arson murders that killed 35 people and seriously injured 33 others, the Kyoto Prefectural Police Investigation Division announced the names of the 10 deceased, including Yasuhiro Takemoto, director of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" and Taishi Nishiya, character designer for the "Free!" series.

Ryoji Nishiyama, Chief of the Investigation Section 1, explained that the families of the 10 deceased had given their permission for the release of their real names, and that the funeral had already been held. As for the other victims, he said, "We are trying to explain to them about the release of their real names and obtain their approval. We will make a decision after communicating with the bereaved families and the company.
