EVO Japan 2020, a fighting game festival, opens at Makuhari Messe! Three days of heated competition among six fighting game titles!

EVO Japan 2020, a world fighting game tournament, will be held at the International Exhibition Hall of Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture for three days from January 24 (Fri.) to 26 (Sun.), 2020.

EVO (Evolution Championship Series) is a fighting game event that started in 1995 in New York, U.S.A., as a fan event for only 40 people, but has now grown into a big event held every summer at Las M. Bisons with over 10,000 participants. It has grown to In 2018, the event will be held in Japan for the first time outside of the U.S. EVO Japan 2020 will be the third event to be held in Japan. The previous EVO Japan 2019 (held at Fukuoka Kokusai Center in Fukuoka Prefecture) attracted 13,000 visitors during the event.

The six main titles for EVO Japan 2020 are "BLAZBLUE CROSS TAG BATTLE," "SAMURAI SPIRITS," "SOULCALIBUR VI," "STREET FIGHTER V ARCADE EDITION," "Super Smash Bros. SPECIAL", and "Tekken 7". Players from all over the world will gather to compete in these six titles, and during the three-day period, heated battles will unfold from the preliminary rounds to the finals. Among the titles, "Super Smash Bros. SPECIAL" was the most popular, with as many as 3,000 entrants.

The qualifying rounds for the above six titles and the semifinals for SAMURAI SPIRITS and SOULCALIBUR VI will be held today (24th) on DAY 1, and tomorrow (25th) on DAY 2, the qualifying rounds for STREET FIGHTER V ARCADE EDITION, Super Smash Bros. SMASH BROTHERS SPECIAL" and "Tekken 7", the semifinals and final for "BLAZBLUE CROSS TAG BATTLE", and the final for "SAMURAI SPIRITS" and "SOULCALIBUR VI" will be held on "DAY 2" tomorrow (25th). Admission to DAY1 and DAY2 is free, but the special seats for DAY3 are 8,000 yen (including tax) and general seats are 3,000 yen (including tax). The admission fee for DAY1 and DAY2 is free, but for DAY3, special seats are 8,000 yen (including tax) and general seats are 3,500 yen (including tax).
