February 27 was recognized as "Pokemon Day! Commemorative events will be held in "Pokémon Sword Shield" and "Pokémon GO.

Pokémon Inc. announced that February 27 has been designated as "Pokémon Day" and has been certified by the Japan Anniversary Association.

Ever since the first title in the "Pokémon" series, "Pokémon Red and Green," was released on February 27, 1996, February 27 has long been celebrated as "Pokémon Day" by fans overseas. According to the official website of the Japan Anniversary Association, the establishment of this new day was done with the hope that Japanese fans will become aware of this anniversary and love the "Pokémon" content for many years to come.

To commemorate the establishment of this "Pokémon Day," a special Max Raid battle will take place in "Pokémon Sword Shield" for Switch, which is currently on sale. A new event will also be held in the "Pokémon GO" app for smartphones.

Furthermore, on this year's Pokémon Day, Thursday, February 27, 2020, many new Pokémon will be announced, including new phantom Pokémon that will appear in "Pokémon Sword Shield" and new information about "Pokémon Masters.
