I know how Chris feels when he starts dancing in his underwear! Commemorating the start of the broadcast of the anime "Bravest Warriors," an interview with Toshiki Masuda & Bravest Challenge photo!

Cartoon Network, a channel specializing in animated cartoons, will broadcast for the first time in Japan the anime "Bravest Warriors," a sci-fi comedy show set in the year 3085 AD, in which four Bravest Warriors, including Chris, Beth, Danny, and Warlow, fight bad guys to protect peace in the universe! The broadcast commemorative program "Toshiki Masuda's Bravest Challenge! will air on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 9 p.m.

Toshiki Masuda, who plays the role of Chris, a kind, straightforward, and strong-willed leader, will talk about the highlights of the show, the fun of cartoons, the appeal of science fiction, which he says is his favorite genre, as well as the "Bravest Challenge of Toshiki Masuda! a program commemorating the broadcast of "Toshiki Masuda's Bravest Challenge!

At the end of the article, there is a present announcement, so be sure to check it out as well!

-- What was your impression when you first saw the film?

Masuda: The pictures give the impression of being for children, but in terms of content, I thought it was completely for adults. I also wanted to make a work that children would enjoy for the expressions and movements of the characters, while adults would enjoy the well-structured story and jokes. I feel that because I have seen a variety of works by the time I reached this age, I can sense how to interject good jokes in the genre of science fiction nonsense comedies.

-- Was there anything you were conscious of when creating the role?

Masuda: Chris is a character who is very pure and pathetic, but also courageous at the critical moment. He is a child, but he also has an adult-like side to him, as if he is able to get to the bottom of a troubled character. Rather than creating the character of Chris, the story progresses in an interesting way just by being normal because of the unique characters around him. I think he is a character that is created by the people around him.

-- What do you think about the SF comedy genre?

Masuda: I think science fiction works are filled with the romance of boys, and science fiction is fantasy, and what is affirmed in some works is denied in others. I think it is interesting that the interpretation of a work differs depending on which author's conception of the established theory of the work you have in your mind. It is fun to talk about the different interpretations. Somewhat cryptic, somewhat absurd. I think it is fun to watch something that seems to have no answer but does have an answer. Science fiction is an interesting genre that has been created by various people under various rules, and in recent years, what was really a future prediction or fantasy has become reality. I think it is a mass of romance, and it is my favorite genre.

-- Tell us an episode from your audition.

Masuda: I didn't expect it to be such a joke. I remember when I was told that I wanted to make a work that would make people happy for a moment when they watched it when they were tired, and that I wanted to make something a little jokey. In fact, I was very pleased with the response I got. What surprised me was that the role of Chris was played by Ume-chan (Yuichiro Umehara). I wondered how Ume-chan (Yuichiro Umehara) would play the role of Chris, who has an appealing deep bass and middle voice, and how he would play the role of Chris, a character who is somewhat out of place and lacking in color. In the films we have worked together in the past, he has often played roles that are cool and respected by the male audience. Danny is kind of a screwed-up guy. I wondered what kind of Danny Ume-chan would be like, and he showed his own dangerous side to the fullest (laughs).

(laughs) -- There are a lot of singing scenes in this piece, aren't there?

Masuda: When I am alone, I sing a lot when I feel happy. Usually, there are many people who suddenly start singing in the dressing room (including in other productions). A musical director once told me, "People sing when they cannot express their feelings in words. It seems that when people can't express their feelings in words, they put them on a melody. Chris sings too. Whether he is good or not, ......, well, he is Chris. It's a point to look forward to.

-- Is there any character you are interested in?

Masuda: Wallow, played by Sojiro Hori, is my favorite. I laughed at one of his lines during recording today (laughs). His voice fits the character very well, so I hope you will check him out on the air. He is a funny guy, but when he speaks, I feel that the tension is broken, and I like that moment because it feels good.

-- Do you have anything in common with Chris?

Masuda: In one episode, there is a scene where Chris is alone. There is no one around except the servant robot Coppacooli, and suddenly he is dancing in his underwear, and I thought that was really great. I thought it was very good. I could understand the feeling of wanting to be like this. Coppacooli is my favorite robot in the film. The design is great.

-- Do you often watch cartoons?

Masuda: When I was a child, I used to watch Powerpuff ("Powerpuff Girls"), which was on during the evening news. I watched it without thinking, but there were quite a few black jokes in it, and I think it sticks with me now that I'm an adult. At the time, I watched it from the perspective that the movements were interesting and cool. I hope that "Bravest Warriors" will be a catalyst for people to get into cartoons. I wasn't aware of it, but cartoons are quite familiar to me. Rather than having people fall in love with it, I would like it to become a natural part of their daily lives.

-- Now, "Toshiki Masuda's Bravest Challenge! Let me ask you about the challenge project. Why did you choose the crane game?

Masuda: I like stones, so I really wanted to go and pick crystals. But it was difficult to do so in Tokyo, so I chose a crane game that I like. I often go to game centers to relieve stress. There is not a week that goes by that I don't go (laughs). (laughs) If I go that often, I can't help but get more prizes. Since I have limited space at home, I have recently started to choose prizes that I can consume, such as snacks. I'm happy when I see prizes from films I've appeared in.

-- Are there any other challenges you would like to try?

Masuda: If I could choose what I want to do without worrying about time, place, or money, I would like to build a house. I would like to build my ideal house, starting from the selection of land and making various requests to the designer.

-- Masuda: What is your message to the viewers?

Masuda: This is a different genre from the ones I have been involved with, so I think viewers who have seen my previous works will discover something new. If you have been feeling uninterested lately, or if you are looking for something interesting, I would like you to watch this film. If you find it interesting, please recommend it to those around you!
