Anisama 15th year anniversary project! Anisama Playback! The 13th "Animelo Summer Live 2017 -THE CARD-" - three legendary days of frenzy with trump cards popping up one after another!

Animelo Summer Live" (hereafter, "Anisama"), the world's largest anime song event that brings together the top artists in the anime song world, will celebrate its 15th anniversary this summer with "Animelo Summer Live 2019 -STORY-" (hereafter, "Anisama 2019").

To commemorate this anniversary year of Anisama, Akiba Research Institute takes a year-by-year playback of past Anisamas!

Let's hear from anime and anime song writers who participated in the Anisama back then, as well as their memories, and get excited about Anisama 2019, which will be held over the three days of August 30, 31, and September 1, 2019!

So, the 13th installment is "Animelo Summer Live 2017 -THE CARD-," which wowed the audience with a series of "trump cards" that were played one after another!

This time, Junichi Tsukagoshi, who witnessed the live performance on site, will be in charge.

Animelo Summer Live 2017 -THE CARD-!

Date: August 25, 26, 27, 2017

Venue: Saitama Super Arena (Stadium mode)

Theme song: "Playing The World" lyrics and music by ZAQ/arranged by ZAQ/EFFY

It was probably in the 2010s that a number of voice-over artists began to play an active role in the industry. Not only that, but the number of contents in which voice actors "sing as characters" has also increased dramatically. With such changes in the anisong scene, Anisama's lineup of performers has also changed, and in 2013, the two-day event was changed to a three-day event. I was personally getting a bit used to the three-day event, and I was thinking ...... about the 2017 Anisama.

The great thing about Anisama is that the performers are properly unified in their intention to "sing anisong. The audience at Anisama is made up of people who really love anime, so there is no problem at all, and they get really excited about every song (some of them even go in a different direction). (Some people go in a different direction, so some detailed rules/manners for live performances have been clarified since this year (......).

Another way to enjoy the festival is to discover new talent. It is quite common to be shocked by live performances at Anisama, even by artists you normally listen to only through anime or CDs. In that sense, first-time participant Inori Minase and Nao Higashiyama, who made her debut as a solo artist in 2017, were especially noteworthy at this year's Anisama.

Now, the theme of Anisama 2017 was "THE CARD. The theme was to make many unique artists look like cards, and to stir up a sense of excitement as to what kind of cards they would cut. All of the cards were undoubtedly powerful, but the first card on the first day was super, super powerful.

SOS-dan (Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, Ouko Goto)

Three cards appeared on the giant screen and were turned over, and on them were Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, and Ouko Goto. In other words, they were the three members of the SOS group. Eleven years earlier, the three members who performed at Anisama 2006 were on stage again! I was so shocked that I was not the only one who did not understand what had happened at first.

I was so shocked that I was not the only one who was not sure what was going on at first. The three of them have taken different paths over the past 10 years, and that's why they are standing on the same stage again. That is why it was so precious to see them standing on the same stage again, singing and dancing with all their might.

Aya Hirano's emotional reaction during the MC was moving, but the highlight of the show was the moment when they left the stage! The sight of the three of them smiling and standing shoulder to shoulder was a scene I will never forget.

The connection from "Hare Haru Re Yukai," which marked an important turning point in the history of character songs, to "Welcome to Japari Park" (Kemono Friends with Oishi Masayoshi), which could be called the latest mode of character songs, was also a performance typical of Anisama. It was a stage performance that gave the audience a sense of momentum, and it was also a pleasure to hear this song performed live. The power of live performance is another charm of Anisama.

The voice actor boom has had various periods, such as the first and second boom, but never before has there been a time when so many voice actors were active as artists as there are today. It will be interesting to see how the changes of the past decade will be positioned in a few years, but one thing I can't help but think about is how unbelievably good they all are at singing! But one thing I can't help but think is that they are all unbelievably good singers. One thing that comes to mind, however, is that they are all unbelievably good at singing! Perhaps this is due to the fact that the generation of voice actors who debuted in the late 1990s and 2000s, such as Maaya Sakamoto and Nana Mizuki, were influenced by these artists of solid talent.

In this context, the performances by Ayaka Ohashi and Machico, who are active in the "iM@S" series and are also active as voice actors, were outstanding, and Saori Hayami's singing ability, which transformed the atmosphere of Saitama Super Arena, was a highlight of the event. The call and response to the song "Kakekoko" was a real crowd pleaser. After the call and response of "Kakekko yo! and then to the mid-tempo "Yume no hate to the end of the dream" (lyrics and music by Mariya Takeuchi!). I don't know about you, but I was overwhelmed by the flow of the song.

Saori Hayami

To be honest, I have fond memories of all the performers, but if I keep writing at this pace, I'll never finish this article, so I'd like to focus on a few of them from here.

So, to continue with what I have been feeling over the past few years, the performers who gathered under the concept of "singing anime songs" can be roughly divided into three categories: anime song (singing) artists, voice-over artists, and voice actors singing character songs. Each of these three categories has evolved, and I was struck by the fact that we live in an age where it is now possible to give excellent performances that can withstand a large stage such as Anisama 2017.

Roselia from BanG Dream!

Aqours

On the first day, Roselia from BanG Dream! and Aqours were particularly impressive. The girls stepped out of the world of their works and captivated the audience with their extremely high-level performances, as if the bands and idol groups from the anime were actually there. Without losing out to the scale of Anisama, the performances of the performers as a whole are sure to be gaining in sophistication.

The first day of the festival ended with the collaboration between FLOW and GRANRODEO, a rock band and unit representing the anisong world, and the second day opened with a collaboration between angela and fripSide, another top runner in the anisong world. The second day of the event was highlighted by Nao Higashiyama's performance.

angela×fripSide

FLOW & GRANRODEO

The news that "I will hold my first solo live at Nippon Budokan" was announced on this stage by the performer herself. Everyone already knew her ability as Kanon Nakagawa, Rhodanthe*, and Valkyrie, and she had already gained many fans as a voice actor, so this news may not seem so sudden, but it does suggest that she must have been under a lot of pressure. However, it is clear that he must have been under a lot of pressure.

Despite all this, Higashiyama's voice was still beautiful and full of clarity.

Nao Higashiyama

Shota Aoi

Ai Nakajima, another Flying Dog artist, was performing just after resuming her singing career, so it had been a long time since her last Anisama performance. This stage was also deeply moving.

On the other hand, Sfia performed at Anisama before her recharging period, and it was a pleasure to hear her early songs such as "Super Noisy Nova".

Shota Aoi, who was in his third year at Anisama, gave a powerful performance that reminded me of his meteoric rise to stardom during the past year. I remember being overwhelmed and moved by the vocals that stretched to the limit.

I felt the same way at the SOS group's stage, but I think it is wonderful that Anisama continues to be held every year without any changes, and that each artist's story is spun out, and that being able to witness each milestone is also a good thing about Anisama.

THE IDOLM@STER SideM

B-PROJECT

The third day started with a collaboration between LiSA and May'n, two singers who are good friends (*May'n was a surprise artist). The day gave the impression that many female voice-over artists were performing together, with Idolmaster SideM and B-PROJECT being male idol contents, and SCREEN mode being a male voice-over unit.

Among them, Inori Minase made her first solo appearance (she also performed in "Kirakira Pretty Cure Alamode: Summer Session" on the second day). She looked wonderful in every expression during her performance, and although she said during the MC that she was nervous, her imposing stage presence was a highlight of the show. I felt the aura of a tremendous star.

Inori Minase

TrySail

In addition, many female voice actors performed, including Uesaka Sumire, Ogura Yui, Milky Holmes, Wake Up, Girls!

On the other hand, anime song artists also had a strong presence. One of the most interesting performances was "VERMILLION" by Maon Kurosaki. The song was sung amidst the battle of attrition between Shimazu Toyohisa and Hijikata Toshizo from the anime "DRIFTERS," a challenge to combine a 2.5 dimensional stage performance with a live performance. As a result, it was the most unforgettable performance of the three days.

Maon Kurosaki

In addition, Luna HARUNA, ZAQ, and LiSA also enlivened the audience with their own unique colors on stage, and one performance that provided an answer to the relationship between voice actors and animation song artists was "Sparkling Daydream" by ZAQ feat. One In A Billion" by Wake Up, May'n!

The voice actors sing as artists, and the animation song artists devote themselves to singing the animation songs that color the anime. The collaboration of these two artists, who each approach anime songs in their own way, seemed to shine brightly once again. I hope that these two artists will continue to evolve and compete with each other as good friends and rivals in friendly rivalry.

Wake Up, May'n!

Hanako Oku

Finally, I was happy to hear "Garnet" instead of "Room Search Must" song ...... by Kanako Oku, which is my personal favorite song, and I also wished I could have heard "What Never Changes" since it was summer at "Anisama 2017".

The theme song of the year was "Playing The World" by ZAQ. I left the Saitama Super Arena moved by the straightforward lyrics that described the feelings of the artists on stage at Anisama.

The lyrics included the line, "Next time it's your turn," which I believe was ZAQ's honest feeling and message. It is only at Anisama that such dramatic episodes are born. This is one of the reasons why Anisama has remained unchanged for 15 years.
