Professional gamers will be competing against each other! Report on "TEPPEN Asia Japan Premiere," a media event for the new "TEPPEN" game from GungHo and Capcom.
On August 8, 2019, the TEPPEN Asia Japan Premiere, a presentation for the media of the TEPPEN smartphone application, was held at Kanda Myojin Hall. Here is a report on the event.
TEPPEN is a new type of card battle game that combines traditional card games with action elements, and was first released in the U.S. and Europe on July 4, 2019.
The event began with Kazuyoshi Morishita, executive producer of the game on the GungHo side, and Ryozo Tsujimoto, who holds the same position on the Capcom side, taking the stage; after their greetings, the latest video was shown and it was revealed that the official service launch in Asia and Japan would be August 8, 2019, the day of the event.
In conjunction with the service launch, a campaign will be held to give away 10 CORE Pack Tickets to new players, with an additional 20 Pack Tickets available until September 1, 2019. One pack ticket gives you 6 cards, so now you can get a total of 180 cards at once.
Next, Mr. Morishita gave an overview of the game. Players select one "hero" and build a deck of 30 cards. In real-time battles, the winner is the first player to reduce his or her opponent's health to zero within the five-minute time limit. If both players have the same health at the end of the match, both players will lose the match.
The heroes that can be selected are "Ryu" and "Chun-Li" from the "Street Fighter" series, "Mega Man" from the "Mega Man" series, and "Mega Man Morrigan Arnland from the "Vampire" series, "Rioreus" and "Nergigante" from the "Monster Hunter" series, "Ryu" and "Chun-Li" from the "Street Fighter" series, and "Mega Man" from the "Mega Man" series. After the commentary, Tsujimoto-san and Morishita-san played a game against each other, and it seemed that the two have played together frequently, with Morishita-san winning most of the public matches. However, in this matchup, Tsujimura-san's breathless and fast attack with Rio Leus and a red deck forced Morishita-san, who was playing with Chun-Li and a green deck, into a one-sided battle, and he lost. Tsujimura won.
Next, Daigo Umehara, Tokido, and Justin Wong, all professional gamers, took the stage. An exhibition match was held between them.
First, Umehara and Tokido fought. Umehara chose Chun-Li as his hero, while Tokido chose Ryu. As the match began, Tokido's attacks were exquisitely timed and he skillfully destroyed Umehara's cards. Tokido dominated from start to finish, winning the first match.
The next match was between Justin Wong and Tokido, who both chose Morrigan as their hero. Both players were using purple decks, and the match was a back-and-forth war of attrition. After a four-minute battle, Justin Wong won the match.
The final match was between Umehara and Justin Wong. Justin Wong chose Ryu as his hero, while Umehara chose Albert Wesker. At the start of the match, Justin Wong showed an overwhelming attack with a combined red and green deck. Umehara played a black deck, but Justin Wong's fast attack put him on the back foot. The match was decided in only 52 seconds, with Justin Wong taking the win.
After the exhibition ended, Tsujimoto and Morishita appeared again, replacing the three players, to announce that in addition to the exhibition at the Tokyo Game Show 2019 in September, a limited edition Rio Reus card that can be used in the game by reading the QR code will be distributed, a world tournament with a prize pool of 50 million yen (the current amount) will The event ended on a high note with the announcement of a variety of information, including that a world tournament with a prize pool of 50 million yen (the current amount) will be held within 2019.
