I have fond memories of all the works in the "FF" series, but "FFVII" is probably the most memorable in the sense that I was able to begin "experimental challenges" when it came to music.
Whether it is the symphonic "Opening - Blasting Mission," the "Main Theme," which depicts various landscapes within a single piece, or the "One-Winged Angel," which is a sequential combination of phrases in several bars, the music has a tone that had never been heard in the "FF" series before. The platform had changed from the previous "FFVI" and the expressive power of game consoles had increased, so this was the perfect time to take on a new challenge. However, now it seems that it was not only because of the evolution of hardware, but also because the times themselves demanded a change in game music. Video games, which were originally intended as children's toys, were being transformed into entertainment that could be enjoyed by adults as well. However, even if we were to change, we had no idea where to go, what to do, or how to do it. No one would know the right answer. I did not set a goal of completion, and I did not listen to anyone's opinion. I just stayed alone in my room and continued to challenge myself day after day in silence, and the result is the music of "FFVII.
This time, I was allowed to write a song called "Hollow," which is played in the game. This song also has a tune that has never been used in "FF" before. For me, this is also an extension of the "experimental challenge.
