TAAF2020's "Anime of the Year Category Best Picture Award" goes to "Weather Child" and "Blade of Demon's Destruction"! Noitamina" 15th Anniversary Screening Programs Also Held!

Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2020 (TAAF2020), an international animation film festival to be held from March 13, 2020, has announced the "Anime of the Year Category Best Picture Award" and "Anime of the Year Category Individual Award," which will be selected by votes of animation industry professionals. The "Animation Fan Awards" were also announced at the same time.

The "Anime of the Year" category is selected by votes from a wide range of professionals in the animation industry, including producers, creators, media, and stores handling animation goods. The "Best Picture Award" and "Individual Award" went to the following works.


Firstly, "Weather Child" was selected for the "Best Picture" category for theatrical films, and "Demon Slayer" was selected for the "Best Television Film" category.

The "Individual Award" will be presented to the following five individuals.

Original Story and Screenplay: Yoseharu Goge (for "Demon Slayer")
Director, Direction Category: Makoto Shinkai (Representative works: "Kimi no na wa. Weather Child")
Animator Division: Akira Matsushima (representative works: "Tales of Zestiria the Cross" and "Demon Slayer")
Art, Color and Visual Division: Mikiko Watanabe (representative works: "Violet Evergarden", "Beyond the Boundary")
Sound and Performance: Yuki Kajiura (representative works: "Fate/stay night [Heaven's Feel]" and "Sword Art Online - Alicization: War of Underworld")

In addition, the "Anime Fan Award," the most beloved work of 2019, as chosen by the general public, was also determined. The top vote-getter with 551,491 votes was "Uta no Prince-sama the Movie: Maji Love Kingdom.

Noitamina's 15th anniversary program will also be screened.

In addition, a special program will be held at TAAF2020 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of "Noitamina," Fuji Television's late-night anime slot established in April 2005.

■"Noitamina" 15th Anniversary Commemorative Program: Your Choice of 3 Memorable Films

The second commemorative program, "Noitamina" 15th Anniversary Commemorative Program: Your Choice of Three Memorable Works," began accepting votes today, February 6. The program will be divided into five-year segments from 2005 to 2009, 2010 to 2014, and 2015 to 2019, and the results will be announced on February 6, 2012. Fans will be able to vote for their "most memorable" works.

After the voting is over, one carefully selected episode from the three films that took first place in each of the five years will be screened, and a talk show will be held with the staff involved in the production of the films on stage.
