In this installment of our series of articles, we will introduce a few backstage tricks for "Donkey Kong" (July 15, 1983), which was released at the same time as the Nintendo Family Computer.

In the 1980s, when the search for underhanded tricks was popular, extreme tricks such as shifting the cassette or short-circuiting the peripheral terminals with metal appeared. The arcade version of "Donkey Kong" first appeared in 1981. The following year, in 1982, it was ported to the Game & Watch. As a home video game, the INTV version and the Atari 2600 version were released in 1982. In fact, the NES version was a rather latecomer.

This game is the origin of "Donkey Kong," for which various sequels are still being made today.

To get started, start normally and advance the Mario-like looking hero to the right at the bottom of the screen.

*By the way, in this first Donkey Kong, there was no "Mario" character yet, and the player character was called "Jumpman," "Rescue Man," and so on. The woman who helped him was also called "Lady.

When the player reached the "slightly left" end of the ladder, he or she would press the cross key "down. The trick is to hit the "right" and "down" keys alternately when you get near the ladder, so that you have a better chance of hitting that dot point. If you go too far, now alternate "left and down". If you are successful, you will be able to ......?

The hero will slip through the bottom ladder and disappear down the screen. ......

And finally ...... the protagonist disappears completely from the screen.

If you continue to press "down" further, the protagonist, to your surprise, appears at the top of the screen.

After that, the protagonist easily reaches the topmost section. Thus, by using this trick, you can clear stage 1 at an unbelievable speed.

The next stage is Stage 2, which many of you may be thinking that touching the steel frame at the bottom will result in a mistake. ......

If you jump from the very edge of the elevator, you can walk on the bottom steel frame!

This is not related to the completion of the game at all, but it is a trick, or rather, a small story. ......

As an added bonus, we also introduce a surreal backstage trick for "Donkey Kong Jr.

The protagonist of this sequel to "Donkey Kong" is Donkey Kong's son, Jr. Yes, Mario (with a mustache that looks like a mustache) is a bit of a bad guy in this game.

The trick I am going to introduce here can be tried in Stage 2.

If you press the top of this chain at this position, ......, Jr.'s arm will be torn off.

But don't worry. It is not a mistake, and you can return to the normal state by doing something else. The graphics are quite shocking, aren't they?
