Commemorating the "Tour de Tohoku 2019! Yuzuru Hanyu x Weak Pedal" special graphics will be posted at Shinjuku and Shibuya stations and Sendai subway station starting August 26!

On the occasion of the cycling event "Tour de Tohoku 2019," a special graphic featuring figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu and 15 characters from the popular anime "Weak Mushi Pedal," which is based on cycling competitions, will appear on the actual course of the "Tour de Tohoku 2019," starting August 26, 2019. The special graphics, which will appear on the actual course of the Tour de Tohoku 2019, will be posted sequentially from August 26 (Monday), 2019.

The anime series "Wimpy Pedal" is based on the manga of the same title serialized in "Weekly Shonen Champion" (Akita Shoten) by Wataru Watanabe, and the battles and drama of high school students who put their all into cycling road races have been popular among a wide range of people. The fourth season, "Weak Mushi Pedal: GLORY LINE," began airing in January 2018.

Since 2013, Kahoku Shimpo and Yahoo Japan have held the "Tour de Tohoku," an annual cycling event aimed at supporting the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake and preserving the memory of the disaster for future generations. On the occasion of the "Tour de Tohoku 2019," special graphics featuring figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu and 15 characters from the popular cycling anime "Wimpy Pedal" will appear on the actual course of the "Tour de Tohoku 2019" at Shinjuku Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Shinjuku Station, Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line Shibuya Station, and Sendai City Subway Sendai Station, starting Monday, August 26, 2019.
This year, Yuzuru Hanyu, who has been supporting the event as "Tour de Tohoku Friends*," will appear as an animated illustration on the "Weak Pedal" graphics in collaboration with the "Tour de Tohoku" following last year.
*:The "Tour de Tohoku" appoints celebrities who agree with the objectives of the event and have participated as "Tour de Tohoku Friends" to play various roles in supporting the recovery of Tohoku.

The special graphic features Yuzuru Hanyu and characters from "Weak Pedal," including the main character Sakamichi Onoda*, wearing the Paul Smith-designed "Tour de Tohoku 2019" official cycling jersey against a realistic and beautiful natural setting of the actual course of the "Tour de Tohoku 2019". Official Cycle Jersey, depicting them riding and resting on their bicycles.
Five of the nine special graphics in total feature Yuzuru Hanyu, and six use the actual course of the "Tour de Tohoku 2019" as the background, with the names of the places where the event took place. The designs, along with the appearance of Yuzuru Hanyu and other characters from "WIMUSUME PEDAL," give a sense of the current situation and appeal of the Tohoku region.
The 15 characters appearing in the design are Sakamichi Onoda, Yusuke Makishima, Shunsuke Imaizumi, Shokichi Naruko, Sho Manami, Sho Midosuji, Junta Teshima, Kazu Aoyagi, Kazusa Kaburaki, Jeppachi Todo, Takuto Ashikiba, Toichiro Izumida, Yukinari Kuroda, Masakiyo Dobashi, and Yuto Shinkai.

I love "Yowamushi Pedal" and always feel the strength to step forward and the power to reach a single goal.I am very happy to be able to support thepeople of Tohoku and those who are pushing the limits with Onodaand Midosuji!　By feeling the "power" of the riders and cheering them on, we will unite as one and become the "power of Tohoku". Congratulations on another year of "Tour de Tohoku 2019".
We are supporting "WIMUSUME PEDAL" this year with the exhibition of original drawings and illustrations at Ishinomaki "Ishinomori Manga-kan".
There will also be a collaboration with figure skater Hanyu, so it is inevitable that the event will be exciting!
Since the year of the earthquake disaster, we have produced a charity sakosh every year and donated all the proceeds.
We hope that the reconstruction of Tohoku will progress as much as possible.

■The locations where the special graphics were created are now open to the public!
Six of the nine graphics use the actual course of the Tour de Tohoku 2019 as their background.
The backgrounds are set in Sendai City, Ishinomaki City, Kesennuma City, Higashimatsushima City, Onagawa Town, and Minamisanriku Town, and a map describing the locations will be available on the special website from early September.
The map can be used as a reference for touring and photographing the locations where Yuzuru Hanyu and other characters from "WIMUSUME PEDAL" are depicted.

Tour de Tohoku
The Kahoku Shimpo and Yahoo Japan have held the "Tour de Tohoku" cycling event every year since 2013 to support reconstruction efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake and to preserve the memory of the disaster for future generations. On the first day of the Tour de Tohoku, Saturday the 14th, the event's seventh edition, the event organizers held an inspection ride on two courses, one starting from Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, and the other from Watari Town, Miyagi Prefecture, in preparation for expanding the riding area to the three Tohoku prefectures next year and beyond. The general public will ride a total of six courses on the second day, Sunday, the 15th, including the "Oku-Matsushima Group Ride from Sendai," a special ride on the Eastern Reconstruction Road that runs along the coast of Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, prior to the opening of the road in the fall.
