Katsuhiro Otomo's "AKIRA" will be the opening film at TAAF 2020! The 4K remastered film will be screened for the first time!

The 4K remastered version of Katsuhiro Otomo's "AKIRA" will be screened as the opening film of the international animation film festival "Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2020" (TAAF2020) to be held from March 13, 2020.

TAAF, which will be held for the seventh time in 2020, is an international animation film festival that is an independent development of the "Tokyo Anime Awards" held as part of the "Tokyo International Anime Fair" in 2002. The objectives of the festival are "to discover and nurture the next generation of animation professionals and to develop and promote Tokyo's animation culture and industry" and "to communicate Tokyo's attractions and contribute to the promotion of tourism in Tokyo". The festival aims to screen works of high quality and originality from around the world in Tokyo, to interact with animation lovers around the world, to provide inspiration and excitement to creators and audiences, and to transmit a new wave of animation from Tokyo to the rest of the world based on the excitement and stimulation provided by these works.

The original author Katsuhiro Otomo himself directed the theatrical animation "AKIRA," which became a worldwide blockbuster hit.
More than 30 years have passed since its release in 2019.
AKIRA" will be scanned in 4K, remastered in 4K and HDR, and remastered in 5.1ch by the music director Shoji Yamashiro, and will be revived as a completely new sound source.

This memorable 4K remastered version of "AKIRA" will be screened for the first time in theaters as the opening film of TAAF2020.


After the screening, popular animators Toshiyuki Inoue and Hiroyuki Okiura, who were the original artists of the film at the time, will participate in a talk show to shed light on the new appeal of this work.

AKIRA" will be remastered in 4K in 2020, the year that marks the anniversary of the film's depiction, and we hope you will enjoy it on the big screen and in 5.1 channel.

<Story
The story takes place in Neo-Tokyo in the year 2019, after World War III and before the Olympics are held the following year.
In July 1988, a new type of bomb was used in the Kanto area, and World War III broke out.
One night in 2019, a group of motorcycles runs wildly on a closed highway in the suburbs of Neo-Tokyo.
The group encounters a strange little man with the number 26 written on his palm on a supposedly deserted street.
