The live-action film "Sonic the Movie," scheduled for release in Japan on March 27, 2020 (Friday), opened in 4,167 theaters in the U.S. on February 14 (local time). During the opening three days (February 14-16), the film grossed $57 million (approximately 6.26 billion yen at 109.8 yen to the dollar), making it the highest-grossing opening in the history of films based on video games (as of February 16, preliminary figures from Box Office mojo).
Sonic is the main character of "Sonic the Hedgehog," an action game for the Mega Drive released by Sega Enterprises (now Sega Games Co., Ltd.) in 1991. Sonic is still one of Sega's most popular characters, and his popularity is split in two with Nintendo's Mario. Sonic the Movie" is a Hollywood live-action film adaptation of Sonic's character.
On February 17, the film received an audience score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, a U.S. critics' website, which is given by the general public who see the film in theaters. My kids loved it, and most importantly, so did I! It's the best family movie ever, nonstop top speed, hilarious and heartwarming! It's great to have a friend. I fell in love with the strong, cool, and cute Sonic! Sonic is strong, cool, and cute!
With the release of the film in Japan, Sonic's birthplace, just a month away, fans' expectations for the film are only increasing.
