Fusion of DASEIN and Psychic Rubber, two major rock units in the world of special effects and anime songs! Interview before their 2-man live "FUSION OF ILLUSION-code222-"!

HYPER BEAT ROCK unit "DASEIN" and rock/anime/special effects song unit "Psychic Rubber" will hold a 2-man live concert on February 22, 2020.

DASEIN" (Vo. Ricky/RIDER CHIPS. etc., Dr. JOE/ DAIDA LAIDA) has many tie-ups with anime such as "ONE PIECE: Chopper Kingdom on the Island of the Beast" and "Captain Tsubasa", while Ricky has performed many songs related to "Kamen Rider". Ricky is also a member of "RIDER CHIPS," a band that produces many songs related to "Masked Rider. In contrast, "Psychic Lover" (Vo. YOFFY, Gt. IMAJO) has not only written many anime and game songs, but has also released theme songs for the Super Sentai series such as "Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger" and "Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.

The two units singing songs from two of Japan's most popular special effects series, "Masked Rider" and "Super Sentai," have created a miraculous fusion! On February 22, 2020, a collaborative live "FUSION OF ILLUSION -code 222-" will be held at Tokyo's "Holiday Shinjyuku" live house.

Akiba Research Institute asked both units to talk about the background and their enthusiasm for the upcoming live performance! The interviewer was bassist and anime song DJ Hiroyuki Deguchi. The interviewer is bassist Hiroyuki Deguchi, who is also an animation song DJ!

It all started at a year-end party!

─ ─ For this live concert, Psychic Rubber, well-known for their music from the Super Sentai series for those who love Toei special effects, and "DASEIN" led by Ricky, a member of RIDER CHIPS, well-known for their music from the Kamen Rider series, will be performing opposite each other at the Super Sentai and Kamen Rider This event is like a spin-off of the "Super Hero Festival" live event. How did you decide on this two-man live event?

IMAJO When JOE, the drummer of DASEIN, and I met at the site, we said, "Let's do it together," but it was still a socially casual remark at that time.

YOFFY JOE is the drummer of NoB's* band "DAIDA LAIDA". And while there was some preliminary information that they had played with Psychic Lover before, it was when the two of them (IMAJO and Ricky) talked at a drinking party that things started to progress.

NoB...singer. Vocalist of the bands "DAIDA LAIDA" and "MAKE-UP. As a solo artist, he has performed in "Tensou Sentai Goseiger" and "Fight! Fight!" and many other tokusatsu and anime songs.

IMAJO When Ricky was invited for the first time to a birthday party and year-end party for Mishio Suzuki (*), he said that he hardly knew anyone there. So I had only seen him at the site before, but when I got drunk, I said to him, "Hey, Ricky-san! I was drunk and said to him, "Hey Ricky! Then Ricky said, "Let's do something with Psychic Lover and DASEIN.

Suzuki Mishio is a reporter for the Yomiuri Shimbun. He has a deep knowledge of special effects and has held many events inviting actors who have appeared in them.

Ricky I was drunk, wasn't I?

IMAJO I was already drunk and said, "Okay, it's decided! I was like, "Okay, I'm going to do it. There were people from the production company nearby, so I was like, "I'm going to do it, so please help me! It was very lighthearted.

YOFFY That was around December of the year before last. At that time, I was at another site and could not participate. Then, at the beginning of the new year, I was called out of the blue to "have a meeting with Mr. DASEIN," and the two members of DAISEN and the four members of Psychic Lover met each other and said, "Oh! Are we going to do something? (laugh).

IMAJO At first we talked without YOFFY (laughs). (laughs) But as we started talking about specifics, I thought it would be good if we could get it right. It has been more than a year since then. You have been working on this project for quite a long time, haven't you?

YOFFY Until then, you and Ricky had been like a princess and a star, meeting once a year at the Super Hero Festival.

Ricky Which one of us is the weaver?

IMAJO That's important.

Ricky Then ...... is me!

Everyone laughed!

Ricky But we don't get together very often, even at the Heroes Festival.

IMAJO Basically, the Super Sentai side and the Kamen Rider side have different dressing rooms at the Super Heroes Festival, so we only have the chance to see each other on stage or during rehearsals.

This live show is more of a collaboration than a showdown!

─ ─ I think you are currently preparing for the live performance, but since this is a two-man live performance, will there be any different direction from the live performances at the Super Hero Festival and other events?

I think bands, like YOFFY DASEIN and Psychic Rubber, are a parade of promises and rules, especially in live performances. We decide on the set list by exploring each other's ideas and wondering "How are we going to do it? We decide on the setlist while exploring each other's ideas.

This time, instead of having Psychic Lover for the first half of the show and DASEIN for the second half, we are mixing it up.

─ ─ Mixed?

IMAJO DASEIN is a vocal and drum unit, while Psychic Rubber is vocal and guitar. So I play the guitar on the DASEIN songs. And JOE from DASEIN will play the drums for Psychic Rubber, so we have a complete fusion here.

YOFFY Since there was no change of setting in this set-up, we didn't have to split the first half and the second half! So we decided to mix it up and do a live show.

IMAJO So it was more like a collaboration than a two-man show. We decided to do it on a stage with supporting musicians who are active in each band.

YOFFY It's quite a challenging gig, and I'm amazed that we were able to come up with such a plan.

─ It seems like it will be a very rare concert! Ricky, I would like to ask you if there are any differences between RIDER CHIPS and DASEIN in the way you express yourself?

Ricky: They are totally different. I mean, RIDER CHIPS is like the youngest son, and DASEIN is like the eldest son because I make all the decisions, or maybe the eldest son is JOE and I am the second son (laughs). But JOE is the type to leave everything to his younger brother, so in reality, I think I am the eldest son.

YOFFY It's like "Tara-chan" or "Katsuo".

Ricky Yes, yes! I love that kind of thing! In RIDER CHIPS, I respond to what Mr. Nomura (Yoshio) decides in a big way, so I am in the opposite position from DASEIN.

Ricky: I'm sure that your direction and methodologies will be very much evident in your live performances.

Ricky I always decide the setlist for the DASEIN concerts, so I'm thinking about how to show DASEIN in each section in the fusion with Psychic Lover.

YOFFY The title of this live show was originally Ricky's idea.

IMAJO By the way, I came up with "Code222" because a live concert on February 22, 2020 is very rare. Besides, it is a two-man show, and each of us is a two-man unit.

─ ─ Everything from the title of the live show has a clear meaning, doesn't it?

IMAJO We also made limited edition T-shirts for this show, so we want everyone to wear them.

Ricky: The goal is to sell out.

IMAJO We can't pass it on to the next time! (laughter)

─ Will you be performing songs that you don't perform at events on the day of the event?

YOFFY At events, there will be more theme songs, but in that sense, it may be only at the Psychic Lover concert that you can hear action songs. If possible, I would have liked to do "Deccan Ranger Action" at Yokohama Arena, but the demand is just not there (laughs). Well, the good thing about our live shows is that we can play such songs.

─ ─ Are there requests for songs that are quite maniacal?

YOFFY Recently, I've been getting requests to play "SWAT ON DECA RANGERS" at various venues. Is this OK? (laugh).

IMAJO As a performer, I am not really conscious of which songs are popular and in what way. Personally, I feel that I have to betray the audience's expectations at a live performance, but of course there is a need to have some "out of the ordinary" songs as well. It's a struggle between those two things in a live set list. It is easy to play the same songs as usual, but that is why we have to practice the songs we have recorded and play a variety of songs.

YOFFY Actually, the insert songs reflect a lot more of Psychic Rubber's artistic side.

───I was asked to write a song for the TTFC (Toei Special Effects Fan Club) at a TTFC event! Kyoryu Gold (insert song from "Jyuden Sentai Kyoryuger")" at a TTFC (Toei Special Effects Fan Club) event. I like that song the best.

YOFFY That song is unusually popular, but very hard to play! (Laughs)

(laughs) ─ I was impressed by your MC at that event, saying that you had never played that song before.

IMAJO That kind of song is surprisingly common.

YOFFY: I am conscious of the audience of half DASEIN at this concert, so it is very challenging to select songs. I wondered what kind of songs they wanted. When I think about the set list, I also think about whether it is okay to play a ballad if I am listening to the songs at a live house. All the time I'm thinking, "Push, push, push! It's no fun if all I do is "push, push, push" all the time.

IMAJO So I listen to DASEIN's music and study it!

Ricky It's like a boxer studying his opponent's game. Well, I think it's OK if it's a rock song. If you suddenly start using a death voice or something like that, I think people will be turned off (laughs).

I want people of both genders to come to my concerts!

─ What do you think about the ratio of male to female fans?

IMAJO We are about 50-50.

Ricky: We are all girls. (DASEIN) is an idol group, so we have a lot of girls. ......

IMAJO Are there any male fans who come to DASEIN from RIDER CHIPS?

Ricky (......) I don't have many. It seems that most of them say "I like Kamen Rider," and I don't think many of them come to DASEIN because they like Ricky's songs. So, I think it's more like "Why don't they come to Dasein? they say.

YOFFY So you don't separate them.

Ricky If you can, I'd like you to come to both! There is a lot more of me in Ricky's solo and DASEIN than there was in RIDER CHIPS! (By old man Self-Portrait)

───This show is also a chance for male fans to see DASEIN!

Ricky, I think there is something cool about DASEIN that is different from RIDER CHIPS! I think there is, so I think there will be ......!

IMAJO It's a bit old-fashioned (laughs).

─ ─ I saw that DASEIN appeared on the TTFC program "PSYCHIC LOVER TV (Ver. TTFC)" prior to the live show and collaborated with Psychic Lover on a song.

IMAJO Usually we play one or two songs with just us and an acoustic guitar, but since DASEIN was able to come this time, I asked JOE to play maracas and the two vocalists to swing the song, and the four of us did it.

YOFFY What we played at that time was "BUN BUN BUN! (ED of "Ressha Sentai Tokkyujar"). It was quite difficult because the tempo was fast and we were singing a song that was originally sung by three members.

Ricky: The chorus was also a bit of a challenge, as we had to think about where to go. It was also like, "Where should we go?

IMAJO It was refreshing to hear Ricky singing "Tokkyu oorai! It was fresh to hear Ricky singing "Tokyuurai!

It wasn't that comical during YOFFY RIDER CHIPS.

Ricky I remember the song "Semaru" from "Let's Go! Rider Kick" is comical, or at least I am aware of it (the original song), so I guess it is close to that.

Ricky ─ ─ Ease of understanding, exaggeration, or something like that?

Ricky Yes, exaggeration.

─ ─ Are there other parts of the song that you sing differently?

Ricky Mr. Nomura directs the recording of RIDER CHIPS, and when I sing a little too softly, he says, "That's not RIDER CHIPS, that's DASEIN, RIDER CHIPS is basically energetic. On the other hand, when recording DASEIN, a little "yuck! on the recording of DASEIN, I would say, "You just did that with the RIDER CHIPS.

YOFFY I listened to and studied a lot of DASEIN before collaborating on this live performance, and I felt the vocals were very "sweet! I feel the vocals are very "sweet".

Ricky It's like a muskmelon.

YOFFY (...... while passing over the muskmelon) He sings with a world view that is the exact opposite of RIDER CHIPS' hard-edgedness, and it's a craftsmanship.

─ ─ There are of course collaborations in your live performances, right?

IMAJO It must be interesting to have both of them come out and sing together.

Ricky If I say so, IMAJO and JOE have been collaborating on stage for a long time.

YOFFY Our mission this time is to find a way to convey the fun of this event, so thankfully we are doing more promotion in advance than usual (laughs).

(laughs) ─ I see (laughs). Lastly, please tell us about the highlights of the live performance.

IMAJO This time, after the concert, you will be able to take a picture with Psychic Lover and DASEIN!

Ricky: So even if you can't make it to the concert, it's totally OK as long as you can make it to the photo shoot.

IMAJO As I mentioned earlier, there will also be limited-edition T-shirts available at .......

Ricky You keep talking about merchandise! You're talking about merchandise at the end of the show? (Laughter)

YOFFY But the collaborations are really amazing. The songs are surprising to everyone, and the arrangements are original in our own way.

─ ─ It's going to be a precious live performance that can only be seen on this day!

YOFFY Hopefully, this live concert will go well and I will be able to tour around Japan with DASEIN!
