In "Dead by Daylight," an asymmetrical multiplayer game, four of the five players are "survivors" trying to escape the field, while one of them is a "killer" who interferes with the survivors. The game became popular upon its Windows release in 2016, selling over 1 million copies, and was later developed for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

Chains of Hate features a new map, "Dead Dog's Tavern," as well as two new characters: the killer Deathbringer and survivor Zarina Cassill. Deathbringer uses a hybrid rifle due to his special ability "Redeemer". It is loaded with a harpoon with a chain attached, rather than bullets, and seems to be able to draw survivors to itself by stabbing them.

Zarina Cassill, on the other hand, can temporarily erase her own aura and, if she is unharmed, can instantly heal other survivors' wounds at one level.
