New Sakura Taisen" is a dramatic 3D action adventure that depicts the activities of the "Teikoku Kagekidan," a group that fights against evil in the fictional "Taisho Era" Imperial City of Tokyo. The main character design is by Kubo Taito, known for his work on the manga "BLEACH" serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (published by Shueisha). The music is by Kouhei Tanaka, who has provided many songs for previous titles in the series. The story will be composed by Ishiijiro, who is active in a variety of media including games, TV animation, and movies.

Sega Games is currently exhibiting at the Tokyo Game Show 2019, which is being held from September 12 to 14, and at the Sega Games/Atlas booth stage, it was announced that the TV anime "New Sakura Taisen the Animation" will be broadcast in 2020. The film is directed by Manabu Ono, with Ono and Tatsuhiko Urahata jointly in charge of the series composition. Animation production is being handled by Sanzigen Corporation, which is also responsible for the game's opening image and animation movie parts.

The opening song is the game's theme song, "Proclamation! Teikoku Kagekidan <New Chapter>" (lyrics by Oji Hiroi, music by Kohei Tanaka).
