The Tokyo Game Show 2019 (TGS 2019) finally opened today, September 12 (Thursday), at Makuhari Messe (Chiba Prefecture).
Many of you may be excited to visit the show to play the latest games on these two days.
Akiba Research Institute staff members who attended the Business Days were among the first to try out many of the hottest titles!
Here is a video of the event and our impressions of the games.
Square Enix
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE" was the main attraction of TGS2019. Even though it was a business day, many people rushed to the booth and formed a waiting line.
Akiba Research Institute also waited for nearly an hour before finally starting the test play. In this version, we were able to play the scene of the attack on the maelstrom in the early stages of the game. Unfortunately, video recording is prohibited for this game. We hope you can get a better idea of what it's like with still images.
Cloud, along with Barrett and Jesse, participated in the mission to destroy the maelstrom. As we progress through the dungeon, overwhelmed by its beautiful graphics, we encounter the enemy!
The seamless transition into battle is familiar from the recent "FF" series. Real-time action battles are the main focus, but at the same time, the player's "ATB Gauge" rises. As the ATB gauge accumulates, the player can use character-specific special attacks such as "Limit Moves" and "Magic. This is a very nice blend of the current "FF" style and the traditional "FF" style.
When you reach the makutemaki reactor, you will enter a battle with a boss character. The battle is quite strategic, as you can hide behind obstacles to avoid enemy attacks, or destroy their legs to stop them from moving, and then shoot them with Thunder, their weak point, to deal massive damage.
As damage accumulates, the battle patterns change one after another, so you can enjoy the battle without getting bored.
This was the end of our test play. It only lasted about 20 minutes, but I was quite excited to see that the "FFVII" in my memory has been updated as it is. I was also impressed.
I am looking forward to the release date!
Trials of Mana TRIALS of MANA
Another title attracting a lot of attention is this full 3D remake of a title originally released in 1995 as a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game, which is also drawing a lot of anticipation, especially from fans who knew the game back in the day.
In this trial version, you can play as Duran, a mercenary. Escape from the city, explore the field. Encountering Rys. And boss battles...it's quite a lot of fun.
The soft colors and pop character designs typical of "Seiken Densetsu" are still present in 3D. The action is also very fast-paced!

Yakuza7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness
The latest numbering title of the popular Yakuza game series, Yakuza7, will also be available to try out. Once again, visitors were welcomed at the bubbly booth.
This time, the main character is Kasuga Ichiban. Set in Yokohama's Isesaki Ijinmachi, he is caught up in a war between three forces.
The biggest topic is a change from the conventional system. It is now a command battle RPG, in which players join forces with their friends to defeat their enemies.
The objective of this test version is to walk around Isesagicho and aim for Hello Work.
Along the way, you can also play a mini-game called "Dragon Kart. To be honest, the content is quite similar to "Mario Kart," but it's a lot more serious than you'd expect from a mini-game, and it's a lot of fun on its own.
The battles are also fun to watch, with a variety of actions popping up. The entertainment level is at full throttle, and I am sure that everyone will be able to say, "This is fun! It is sure to be "fun" for everyone.
Akiba Research Institute plans to introduce many more titles for you to try out. We will be updating this article as needed, so keep checking back!
