Vinland was Saga! Vinland Saga," a collaboration between Saga Prefecture and the TV anime "Vinland Saga," has begun!

Saga Prefecture has announced that as part of the "Saga Prize! a collaboration project with the TV anime "VINLAND SAGA" as part of the "Saga Prize!

VINLAND SAGA" is a manga series by Makoto Yukimura, serialized in Kodansha's "Afternoon" magazine, which depicts the lives of the Vikings who dominated the world in the early 11th century in northern Europe and is currently being made into a TV anime.
The anime will be directed by Shuhei Yuda, director of "Inuyashiki" and 3DCG director of "Shinkage no Kyojin"; series composition and script by Koji Seko, series composition and script of "BANANA FISH" and "Ajin"; character design by Takahiko Abidome, animation director of "HUNTERxHUNTER"; music by Tokyo Ghoul", Yutaka Yamada of "Tokyo Ghoul", and WIT STUDIO of "Shinkage no Kyojin" and "Mahoutsukai no Yome" will be in charge of animation production.

This time, from Saga Prefecture, as part of the local development project through information dissemination, "Saga Prize! a collaboration project with the TV anime "VINLAND SAGA," based on the popular manga "VINLAND SAGA," which depicts how "true warriors" should be through the lives of Vikings who spend their lives in battle, will be implemented.

Saga Prefecture, as its name "Sakae no Kuni" (Land of Prosperity) suggests, boasts two rich oceans, the Ariake Sea and the Genkai Sea, fertile land with the highest production of 2-row barley in Japan (2018 Crop Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries), historical heritage including the Yoshinogari and Miezu Naval Station sites, and traditional culture including Imariyaki and Arita-yaki pottery. Saga is also home to the Saga International Balloon Fiesta, one of Asia's largest international hot-air balloon festivals, which attracts more than 800,000 visitors every year!

This collaboration was realized as "Vinland Saga" not only because "Saga" = "Saga" but also because both parties are passionate about "Vinland".

The "Grand Voyage Riddle Solving Stamp Rally" will be held in Akihabara, Tokyo, from October 3 (Thu.) to October 18 (Fri.), 2019 as the main project of this collaboration. On the first day, Thursday, October 3, the "Vinland Saga" launching ceremony will be held at AKIBA SQUARE in Akihabara, Tokyo.

The characters of "VINLAND SAGA" in collaboration with the specialty products representing Saga Prefecture are the focus of attention.

■Thorfin x Warasbo & Karatsu Q Saba

A young Viking man. After his first voyage with his father, Thors, he leaves Iceland and joins a band of mercenaries. Instead of a sword, Tolfin carries a warasbo and a Karatsu Qsaba.

Walasbo is found only in the Ariake Sea in Japan, and while it looks rabid, it has a light and gentle flavor.

Karatsu Q Mackerel is a fully cultured Mackerel produced through joint research between Kyushu University and Karatsu City. Fresh mackerel can be served as sashimi.

TORULS × Saga Beef(R)

Father of TORUFIN. He was once one of the captains of the Yeom Warriors, said to be the strongest in the North Sea, and was feared and called the "Troll of Yeom.

Trolls' specialty is top-quality Saga beef raised in the fertile land. Saga Beef(R) is one of the best Japanese black cattle, boasting a meat quality grade of 5 or 4 and a BMS of 7 or higher among all brand beef in Japan. The beautiful marbling of Saga Beef is called "glossy".

Arita Ware

The leader of the Asherad Corps consists of 100 Vikings. The gorgeous armor he proudly wears is made of Arita-yaki (old Imari porcelain).

The production of porcelain in Imari and Arita began when Naoshige Nabeshima, the founder of the Saga Clan, brought back potters with him during Hideyoshi Toyotomi's invasion of Korea. In 1616, Kanagae Sanbei (a.k.a. Ri Sanpei), a potter who came to Arita, discovered white porcelain ore at Mount Izumi, and it is said that the first porcelain was fired in Japan.

■Knut × Saga Nishiki

The second in line to the throne of Denmark. He is a noble prince who yearns for beauty more than battle, and his clothes are made with the finest Saga Nishiki.

Saga Nishiki is made by weaving warp threads of thinly cut Japanese paper covered with gold, silver, or lacquer, and weft threads of dyed twisted silk yarn. Because it is a very patient handwork that requires exquisite technique, only about 3 cm of fabric can be woven in a day.

■Torkel x Sagaan Sake

A warlord with a very large physique and inhuman strength. What is life without sake? The bottle of sake that a tipsy Torkel carries is a bottle of Saga sake.

Saga Prefecture, with its fertile land and Saga Plain, is one of Japan's leading rice-producing regions, and has long been home to many sake breweries. Among the sake produced in Saga, "The SAGA Certified Sake" is a sake that is guaranteed for its quality and taste.

Background

The background of the characters standingdepicts wheat fields, the Genkai Sea, and hot air balloonsin Saga Prefecture, Japan's Vinland.

Saga Prefecture is Japan's largest wheat-growing region, with the largest area (2018 production) of 2-row barley, the raw material for beer, and around the end of May, the harvest season, the scenery overlaps with the wheat fields of Vinland depicted in the work, spread out around the Saga Plain.

The Genkainada Sea is known as a good fishing ground, and the Yobuko morning market, which has been held since the Taisho era (1912-1926), is famous for its clear-cut live squid. Along with Wajima in Ishikawa Prefecture and Takayama in Gifu Prefecture, Yobuko is one of the three largest morning markets in Japan.

The Saga International Balloon Fiesta is one of Asia's largest international hot air balloon competitions, held annually from late October to early November on the banks of the Kasegawa River in Saga City, attracting many tourists during the event.

The logo pays homage to the work that symbolizes "VINLAND Saga.
The sword, which corresponds to the "I" in VINLAND, is modeled after a Yayoi period "bronze ware" excavated from the Yoshinogari site in Saga Prefecture.
