Monster Hunter" (original title: Monster Hunter), a Hollywood live-action movie based on the world of Capcom's popular "Monster Hunter" game series, which had been announced for production, will be released simultaneously in Japan and the United States on September 4, 2020 (Friday). At the same time, scene photos were released for the first time in the world.

Since the release of the first game in 2004, the "Monster Hunter" series has steadily gained fans over the past 16 years and has sold 61 million units (as of January 15, 2020). Nicknamed "MonHun," the game has established a new game genre, "hunting action," in which players confront giant monsters in a magnificent natural setting. The game's game play, in which players cooperate with other players to take on powerful monsters, has triggered a "MonHun" boom under the slogan, "Let's go hunting! The latest title, "World," was released in January 2018 and has achieved Capcom's highest ever worldwide sales of 15 million units (as of January 2, 2020). The series continues to attract game fans around the world as one of Japan's most iconic series.

The hit Japanese video game series that has enthralled the world has been adapted into a live-action Hollywood movie, "Monster Hunter," which will be released simultaneously in Japan and the United States on September 4, 2020 (Friday). At the same time, a "world premiere" scene photo was released (distributed jointly by Toho and Towa Pictures).

The film is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the director of the "Resident Evil" series, which has become a blockbuster hit with a total box-office revenue of over 20 billion yen. The film stars Milla Jovovich as Alice, the main character from the "Resident Evil" series, who is regularly ranked as one of the top action heroines in the world. The film also features Tony Jaa, an actor whose realistic action in "Wild Speed SKY MISSION" and other films has caused a tremor around the world, and Ron Perlman, the famous actor known for his starring role in the "Hellboy" series. Actress Kona Yamazaki, who made her Hollywood debut with this film, will represent Japan in the competition.

Milla Jovovich plays the role of Artemis, the female leader of the group. During a reconnaissance mission in the desert, Artemis and her elite unit suddenly encounter a gigantic sandstorm, and although they desperately try to escape, they are instantly caught in the middle of it. Artemis is knocked unconscious by a powerful gust of wind and a flash of lightning. She wakes up in a completely different world on the other side of our world.

Director Anderson, who is known for his love of video games in his personal life, is a big fan of the "MonHun" series and is in love with its worldview, saying, "This will be a special film. I'm looking forward to seeing it in theaters," he said enthusiastically. Anderson, who also poured his love for the original "Resident Evil" series and led it to become a blockbuster series, is excited about the new world of "MonHun" that he depicts in this film.

In the world premiere scene photos, Artemis (played by Mira) and Hunter (played by Tony) are dressed in costumes reminiscent of the armor that fans have come to know and love as standard equipment from the game! The two standing on the desolate land against the setting sun, covered in scars and dirt, foreshadow the harsh survival in a world where monsters coexist.

The world premiere video is currently being screened at TOHO CINEMAS Makuhari theaters nationwide (all theaters and screens from February 28).
In the video, we can catch a glimpse of the world of the hunters, who have successfully recreated the world of the game, and at the end of the video, we can see the monster that has appeared in the first game and has been tormenting the hunters as the "tyrant of the desert" jump out of the desert just like in the game. The monster, which appeared in the first game and has tormented hunters as the "Tyrant of the Desert," can be seen jumping out of the desert just as in the game.

We hope you will check out the latest footage of this game on the big screen. Stay tuned for more information on this Japanese original game from the "Resident Evil" series duo.
