(Postscript ends here)
Rurouni Kenshin - Meiji Swordsman Romantic Tan," a hit manga series serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in the 1990s, has sold more than 72 million copies (by Nobuhiro Watsuki). The story follows the adventures of the hero Himura Kenshin, a wanderer with a reverse-blade sword in his hand who has sworn a vow of "no killing" during the turbulent transition from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era. His character, who had a past as a manslayer and continued to fight despite his doubts and troubles, was popular among readers at the time as a new image of hero that was different from the heroes in shōnen magazines up to that time.
The exhibition will be divided into five areas, each with a different theme: "What are Friends," "What is Justice," "What is Strength," "What is Life," and "What is Happiness," all of which are indispensable to the story of the work. In the "What is Life?" area, Kenshin's beloved sword "Sakabatou Shinuchi," which has been completely recreated, will be on special display. In addition, original exhibition goods such as tapestries and mascots, as well as the official catalogue, will be sold at the official exhibition store "Kurobeko".
Kenshin's favorite sword, the "reverse-blade sword, Shinbachi," will be on display!
The "Gyakabatatou Shinuchi" (reverse-blade sword) on display at the exhibition was created by Kanekuni Ogawa, an uninspected swordsmith in Seki-shi, Gifu Prefecture. It is a perfect replica of Kenshin's favorite sword in the film, characterized by the fact that the blade and the peak of the sword are struck in the opposite direction from normal swords, so that the sword is not used to kill people but rather to strike at the peak of the sword. The inscription on the blade (nakago, the inner part of the blade) reads, "For the sake of my grandchildren, even if my children hate me for forging a blade that cuts me.
