Rurouni Kenshin" is a live-action film based on the manga "Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Tan" by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The first "Rurouni Kenshin" was released in 2012, followed by the second "Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Fire of Kyoto" and the third "Rurouni Kenshin: The Last Days of the Legend" in two parts in 2014.

The main cast will continue to include Takeru Sato as Kenshin Himura, Emi Takei as Kaoru Kamiya, Takataka Aoki as Sanosuke Sagara, Yu Aoi as Megumi Takani, and Yosuke Eguchi as Hajime Saito.

⇒ "Rurouni Kenshin: The Last Chapter" live-action film version, Yosuke Eguchi continues to play the role of Hajime Saito! The way Kenshin and Saito change as the world goes by is a sight to behold.

⇒ "Rurouni Kenshin The Final/The Beginning", the live-action film, unveils additional cast members! The role of En, the most fearsome enemy in the history of the series, will be played by Arata Junsuke!

Tomoe Yukiyo is the wife whom Kenshin slayed with his own hands despite the fact that she was the only one he allowed into his heart when he was the Battousai the Manslayer. Tomoe is deeply involved in the secret of the cross-shaped scar on Kenshin's cheek, which is also related to the reason why En takes revenge on Kenshin in the final chapter "The Final. In the visual released this time, Tomoe is standing in a snowy scene, and her expression, staring off into the distance, is fragile.

The following comments have been received from the actress who plays Tomoe Yukiyo, Takeru Sato who plays Kenshin Himura, and Keishi Otomo, the director of the film (all in Japanese only).

Comment from Masumi Arimura
The producer said to me, "This episode would not be possible without Tomoe," and I was happy to hear that because this is a work that has been cherished by fans of the original work and movie fans since the first film, and because Ken, the cast, the director, and the staff have all worked so hard on it. I was happy, but at the same time I felt a lot of pressure.
When I spoke with Mr. Sato on the set, he said, "This is a work that I really cherish, and the creation of my role in the beginning of "Rurouni Kenshin" seven years ago started with Tomoe, I deeply felt the weight of his words. I could feel how much he loves "Rurouni Kenshin" from standing next to him. Whether it is action or acting, there are many things he is able to do because he knows what he wants to express within himself, and watching him up close, I really admired him and thought he was an amazing actor.

Takeru Sato's comment on the final chapter
The crossed scar on Kenshin's cheek is a symbol of sadness, and as long as this scar remains, Kenshin will be sad. After his encounter with Tomoe, Kenshin swears not to kill by the cross-shaped scar and begins his wandering journey to protect the peace of the people of the city. The three Rurouni Kenshin series so far have been stories of new adventures of Kenshin, who became a wanderer after such a past.
In other words, I, who played all of them, had one woman, Tomoe Yukiyo, inside of me.
On the first day of filming Part 1, when I realized the coming of a new era at the Battle of Toba-Fushimi, when Shizuo Makoto slaughtered the woman he loved in front of my eyes, every time I tried to look back at myself as Kenshin, I thought of Tomoe and took a deep breath before going into the production.
On the first day of shooting The Beginning, something that had been inside me for seven years suddenly appeared before my eyes as a tangible entity. I felt an irrepressible nostalgia for Mr. Arimura, whom I was to meet for the first time as Tomoe. The days of filming that followed were painful and sad, yet dreamlike, and looking back on them now, I have never experienced such a beautiful and fleeting time.
And then there was En Yukiyo, a man who, like Kenshin, has a deep love for Tomoe, and at the climax of The Final, after the duel with En, when I faced him and looked into Nitta-san's eyes, I was able to accept the end of the story of Rurouni Kenshin. I believe that I was able to give my all to this series. I hope that this film will be completed and released safely, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me and my friends who fought alongside me.

Director Keishi Otomo comment
In the days of the "Battousai the Manslayer", Kenshin was a "Manslayer Battousai", roaming the streets of Kyoto at the end of the Edo period. Tomoe Yukiyo was the one who lit up Kenshin's solitude. This heroine, guided by fate and driven by complex emotions hidden deep within her, is not an easy role to play. The actress who came to mind was Masumi Arimura, with whom I worked on "March comes in like a lion. With a pure white heart, I thought she would be able to play this role and run with me through the story of a fiery encounter between two lonely souls. In the midst of tragic melancholy, she was imbued with a strong will and boundless tenderness. It is rare to see such a dramatic heroine. I am very much looking forward to unveiling the image of Tomoe, which Masumi Arimura has played with all her heart and soul, to everyone as soon as possible.
