Significantly shorter load times, more realistic images and sound, and backward compatibility with PS4! What are the very interesting specifications of PlayStation5?

As previously reported, on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at 1:00 a.m. (Japan time), a technical explanation video of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) was released, revealing information about the hardware specifications that are of interest.

The video is a recording of a presentation by Mark Cerny, the lead architect of PS5, and is a recording of a session scheduled for the Game Developers Conference (GDC). The video is in English audio only without subtitles, but a summary article is currently available on the PlayStation.Blog for Japan.

According to this article, the general specifications of PS5 are as follows.

PS5 is capable of sending out data at an incredible speed. It will be possible to move instantly to any game world, no matter how vast. Users will be able to spend more time playing games rather than waiting for loading times.
The custom GPU in the PS5 enables a new feature called ray tracing. Raytracing is a new feature in PS5 that uses ray tracing to reproduce how light moves in the real world and how it reflects off the surface of an object, enabling more accurate and realistic rendering of objects.
A custom 3D audio engine optimized for audio rendering is included to provide a great audio experience for all users, not just those with high-end audio equipment. The sound of raindrops hitting various surfaces and specifically which direction enemies are lurking will feel more realistic and localized.
The top 100 most played titles on PlayStation 4 were surveyed, and almost all of them were confirmed to run smoothly on PS5 at launch. Verification testing will continue for the more than 4,000 PS4 titles already on the market to ensure compatibility.

We are happy to hear that PS4 titles will be backward compatible, as well as offering an even more realistic gaming experience with the enhanced machine power.
We look forward to more news as it becomes available.
