Official comments from Yuichi Nakamura, who plays the role of Jiong Mikhail Ignatov, have just arrived.

Official comment by Yuichi Nakamura as Jion, Mikhail Ignatov

I hope that those who watch the film will feel the answer to the "attempt" of "PSYCHO-PASS Psycho-Pass 3".

─ Finally, "PSYCHO-PASS Psycho-Pass 3 FIRST INSPECTOR" will be released in theaters, what are your thoughts on the TV anime "PSYCHO-PASS Psycho-Pass 3" that has been broadcast since October 2019?

Nakamura: I felt it was a very big "challenge" to not just make a sequel, but to broadcast it in an expanded one-hour slot every week. We (the cast) did not record the program in two 30-minute episodes at ......, but rather recorded an hour's worth of material without splitting it up, as the script was written as a one-hour drama. This kind of "experiment" is not easy to do in a conventional TV series anime, and I thought it was a very interesting work, including the environment that allowed such an adventure.

─ In the "PSYCHO-PASS: Psycho-Pass" series, the story is about a watchdog, Jion Mikhail Ignatov, who, together with his childhood friend and watchdog, Shaku Shindui, pursues "potential criminals" who have committed crimes before, under the Sibura system, which quantifies the human psyche. What is your impression of the new inspector, Jiong, played by Mr. Nakamura?

Nakamura: He has a strong sense of justice and is earnest and straightforward, but I think he is easily offended by things that are different from his own values. I got the impression that he does not have much flexibility. The fact that he is an immigrant is also a major factor for him, and I played him while thinking about "the narrowness of his shoulders living in Japan, the weakness of his position, and the prejudice he feels when he is looked at with prejudice.

Nakamura:What kind of person did you think of your buddy partner Shaku?

Nakamura: In the story, I was able to learn how and when they met and what kind of relationship they had, so I thought that they (Jiong and Shaku) must have spent a lot of time together. For Jiong, who had military experience, there was probably no one else who would stand in front of him and put his body on the line except for Shaku. In that sense, he must have a great deal of trust in Shaku. At the end of episode 7, there was a crack in the relationship between the two of them, but personally, I don't think it was that serious a falling out. Shaku is a "mentalist" and may be guiding people's minds, while Jiong is in the middle of a case and their differences have grown. Jiong has become so consumed with the need to do something about it himself that the gears have lost their mesh.

─ In episode 8, Jiong comes into contact with Bifrost's congressman, Houbara Shizuka, and makes a contract to become an inspector.

Nakamura: I was worried about what would happen to Jiong because his behavior seemed to be out of control. But after reading the script for "PSYCHO-PASS Psycho-Pass 3 FIRST INSPECTOR," I was relieved to learn that his mind has not changed.

─ What are your impressions of Bifrost's congressman Shizuka Houbara and First Inspector Koichi Azusaizawa?

Nakamura: Shizuka and Jion started interacting with each other in episode 8, so I wasn't sure what kind of relationship they would have, but it was thrilling to see how they used each other rather than showing each other their innermost feelings. Shizuka, as seen through the script of "PSYCHO-PASS Psycho-Pass 3: FIRST INSPECTOR," is a mysterious character. We can't see his true intentions. I felt that he was someone I couldn't let my guard down. Shizuki is a person who wears a mask, but Azusa Sawa does not wear a mask. He is an intelligent criminal who sets up his own cases, a person who seems to have his head screwed on. I could feel this in the voice of his senior, Mr. Keno (Horiuchi). I feel that both Shizuki and Azusawa are very interesting characters.

─ ─ Finally, "FIRST INSPECTOR" will be released in theaters. How do you hope people will enjoy this film?

Nakamura: I think it is up to everyone to decide how they would like to receive this film. I have an intention when I play the role of Jion, and I am sure that the creators have their own intentions, but I believe that the "answer" will be the feelings of the people who see the completed film. We only read the script and were only present when the sound was added, and I am sure the image will change even more once the picture is completed and the music is added. We would be very happy if you could feel the film as you see it.
