With a toy toy base and easy painting, a toy toy becomes a realistic model! I played with Bandai's "FW GUNDAM CONVERGE EX29 Bigg Zam & Core Booster"! Recommended! Shokugan Road Vol.8

Hello everyone! This is Kariyasu☆, a hobby writer.
In this corner, I will be reviewing, modifying, and playing around with Shokugan kits that interest me, under the theme of "Shokugan for adults. In this 8th issue, we will be looking at the "FW GUNDAM CONVERGE EX29 Bigg Zam & Core Booster"!

Big Zam is a big size, approximately 90mm in height. In addition to its normal standing pose, you can also recreate its floating state by replacing the parts. Two Core Boosters with markings "005" and "006" are also included.

The powerful kit is compactly packaged in a package. The Big Zam only needs a few parts to be assembled to complete the kit, and the Core Booster is included as-is.

Big Zam standing on its own. The stand is used, but it will stand up even if you don't use it.

The leg parts have been replaced to make it float! This one requires a stand.

The detail is excellent. Compared to the original Big Zam, it is much more deformed and compact, but you can feel the strength and massiveness without feeling it.

Core booster. This one is also moderately deformed.

Smudging and dry brushing make it more realistic!

It would be cool to display it as it is, but for an added touch of fun, we tried adding smudging and dry brushing! The basic flow of the process is as follows,

Spray a glossy (or semi-glossy) spray (not required, but it will prevent stains from forming when applying smudges).
 ↓↓↓↓
Smear with enamel paint in dark brown (brown color is more realistic than black color).
 ↓ ↓
Wipe off any paint overspray with a cotton swab or brush moistened with enamel solvent (washing).
 ↓ ↓
Apply white water-based paint to the edges to enhance the three-dimensional effect (highlighting, dry brushing).
 ↓ ↓
Spray a semi-glossy paint if you want a shiny mechanical look, or spray a matte paint if you want a dry, matte texture.

If you want a mechanical shiny look, spray a semi-glossy spray. This is where we stopped this time, but you can go further and add rust stains or create a peeling paint job!

Smudging...... is a technique in which enamel paints are diluted with a special solvent and poured into the model's concave areas to darken them and create a three-dimensional effect. Once you experience the sensation of paint flowing smoothly by capillary action, it is inevitable that you will become addicted to it!

*Dry Brush...... is a technique to emphasize convex areas by subtly applying a highlight color (white) to areas that you want to stand out, such as the edges of a model. This technique is more effective when used in combination with smudging, but be careful not to overdo it, as it will make the entire model look whitish!

The color was completely matte as it was, but we added a little more luster to give it a more iron-like appearance. When you finish any kit, not only mecha, try to pay attention to the "texture". What is important for enjoying more realistic plastic models is how to remove the "plastic-like" or "toy-like" appearance.

Let's make a mini diorama using a Shokugan base!

I made a diorama inspired by the Battle of Solomon using the Shokugan base (sold separately), which I introduced in my previous article!

All parts are clear and include a base, two pillars, clips, two types of base connecting parts, two types of structure parts (wall parts), and structure connecting parts. One of the two structure parts is a flat wall with no mold, and the other is a "building," "mechanical," or "rock," which is included at random.

Multiple bases are combined and sprayed with surfacer. The "rock" parts are then painted brown and smudged. Note that the "Shokugan base" is made of ABS and may be damaged if lacquer paints are used!

The "mechanical" parts used last time were also used to create a similar wall to display the Biggzam. I think it fits in well without any discomfort! It might be interesting to find a different way to display it.

I used arms and clips to hold the "005" fuselage in place and recreate that scene where Lt. Sleger charged the Big Zam! If you have never made a diorama before, I think you should try an easy diorama like this first.

See you next month!
