The "Saga" series and Saga Prefecture collaborate again! Project "Romancing Saga 2020" has started! Official website also released!

Saga Prefecture has announced the launch of "Romancing Saga 2020," a project to collaborate with Square Enix's popular RPG series "Saga," which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The "Saga" series is the generic name for RPG titles released by Square (now Square Enix); the first title, which appeared in 1989 for the Game Boy, sold more than one million copies. Currently, there are 17 titles in the series, and it still boasts strong popularity, with a cumulative total of more than 10 million copies shipped and downloaded worldwide.

The project "Romancing Saga" once took place in 2014. It was a collaboration between Saga Prefecture and the "Saga" series, which was celebrating its 25th anniversary at the time, with the goal of promoting the Saga region and revitalizing the "Saga" series. This project is the second phase of that collaboration. Saga Prefecture is working to create a "related population," which is different from the "resident population," such as immigrants, or the "exchange population," such as tourists, and involves ongoing cooperation with local people in a variety of fields. The objective of this project is to build a better relationship between Saga Prefecture and Square Enix and to promote each other on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the "Saga" series. In conjunction with the launch of this project, an official website has been opened to the public.

In addition, a collaboration event between Saga Prefecture and "Romancing Saga Re-Universe," an RPG for smartphones currently being distributed, will also be held. The event is quite unique in that "Saga Prefecture will appear in the game. The specific timing of the event is still unknown, so stay tuned for more information.
