Today, June 11, is the birthday of popular voice actor Kenjiro Tsuda!
To commemorate Mr. Tsuda's birthday, Akiba Research Institute held the "Kenjiro Tsuda's Birthday Commemoration! Hamari Chara Popularity Poll" from June 3, 2020 to June 9, 2020.

Sixty-two characters were nominated. Here are the top 10 characters.

Taking first place by a double score or more over second place was the great detective Sakeido / Akito Naruhia from "ID:INVADED ID:INVADED"!　After the voting began, the number of votes gradually increased, and as of June 4, one day after the poll began, Sakaido was in second place, and two days later, on June 5, he overtook Nino of "ACCA 13th Prefectual Police Division," who was in first place. The character is full of charm, not only for his high deductive powers, but also for his abundant knowledge and his reputation as a great detective. The result was that many votes were cast for the character who enjoys Ms. Tsuda's various voices.

Nino of "ACCA 13th District Inspection Division," a friend of the main character Gene, a former detective and now a freelance reporter, was in the lead at the start of the contest, although he was overtaken by Sakaido, who came in at first place. Mr. Tsuda's unaffected tone of voice was a perfect match for the character of Nino, portrayed by Natsume Ono, and it was hard to imagine anyone else's voice but Mr. Tsuda's. As a result, he took the second place, although he was overtaken by Sakeido, who took the first place.

The one who was vying for the top spot behind these two characters was Chikage Kazama of "Hakuouki" fame. In the original game, he was the only one of the enemies to be attacked. He is a self-satisfied, moody, confident, and arrogant character, but at the same time, he also has a loyal and manly side, which makes it hard not to say "You are actually a nice guy. ......! Takeru Suo of the "K" series, who came in sixth place, is similar to Kazama in that he is trusted by his friends and is a dependable leader.

In this year's poll, in addition to Kazama (No. 3), characters such as Overhaul (No. 4, "My Hero Academia"), Ogata Hyakunosuke (No. 5, "Golden Kamui"), and Monspeit (No. 10, "The Seven Deadly Sins") were also in this category. I guess they are all in this genre. Mr. Tsuda's presence and charm as an antagonist are immeasurable.

And speaking of Mr. Tsuda, he also plays a number of characters whose charm lies in their mystery, whether they are friend or foe. In this issue, Paka ("Nakano Hitogenome [Live Action]") at No. 7 and Joker ("Fire Brigade") at No. 9 are on the list.

In recent years, he has also played a number of non-humanoid characters, and the indescribable flavor of these characters seems to have made them popular. The aforementioned Paca is a suspicious figure wearing an alpaca headdress and suit, the giraffe ("Girls' Opera Revue Starlight") at No. 8 is a giraffe as his name suggests, and the "African businessman" lizard at No. 10 (although all characters in this work are animals), three of the top 10 characters are animals. The popularity of the work was so great that three out of the top 10 were visual animal characters. I can understand why they want Tsuda-san to play an animal character.

Surprisingly, Sejin Kaiba from "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters", who is probably Mr. Tsuda's representative character both in name and reality, did not make the list this time, but that only means that he has played such attractive characters in recent works.

Ms. Tsuda has demonstrated her versatility by dubbing Western films, narrating many TV programs, and making her directorial debut with "Documentary Entertainment AD-Live" in 2019, and we hope she will continue to demonstrate her captivating Tsuda voice in a variety of anime.
