Akiba Research Institute's official poll project "What to watch next season? Summer Anime Popularity Poll! The voting has been closed. Here are the results.

As you know, the current anime industry is affected by the global spread of the new type of corona virus, and many scheduled anime productions have been postponed in terms of broadcast and distribution. Under such circumstances, the number of broadcasts and distribution of summer anime starting in July is less than half of the usual number for the usual season, and only 25 works were nominated in this year's voting. The number of votes was also slower than usual, giving the impression that interest in anime itself has slowed down considerably.

However, although the number of summer anime is small, there are many notable works. In many cases, anime that were originally supposed to be broadcast in the spring season have been moved to the summer season, and many of these include the final installments of popular works.

Which of the highly anticipated 2020 summer anime series are you looking forward to? Let's start with the top 10.

As expected, the "Sword Art Online Articulation War of Underworld 2nd Cool," which is the last season of the "Articulation Arc," the longest episode in the "Sword Art Online (SAO)" series, came in first place among all the other notable works. Underworld 2nd Cool". Needless to say, the "SAO" series is so popular that the first season of the "Alicization Arc" has been a two-cour series, and the second season, "War of Underworld," is scheduled to be aired in two separate two-cour seasons, making it a four-cour epic. The first season of "War of Underworld" aired from October to December 2019, and the second and final season was originally scheduled to air from April to June 2020, but due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the broadcast was postponed to this July season. The climax of this popular work, which has been running for a total of nine years since its first season began airing in 2012, has been eagerly awaited by the fans. It can be said that this is truly a remarkable work representing this season's anime.

The second place was also one of the postponed spring anime, "After all, my adolescent romantic comedy is wrong. It was " Ore no Gaile". Nicknamed "Ore ga Il," this work, "Sorette Ore no Seishun Love Comedy ha Maki ga Itte. The first season of the anime, "Ore Guile," aired in 2013 and gained popularity, followed by the second season, "Sore Ore no Seishun Love Comedy ha Mawatte ga Mawatteiru" in 2015. The second season, "Sorette Ore no Seishun Love Comedy ha Maki ga Matter ni Tsugatteiru," was broadcast in 2015. The main character, Hachiman Hikiya Hachiman, who is a high school student of the so-called "loneliness type," and the two girls surrounding him, Yukino Yukinoshita and Yui Yuigahama, have attracted many fans with their indescribable high school lives, and finally the final part, "Sore Ore no Seishun Love Comedy ha Mashi ga Waketeru. The final part of the series, "I knew my adolescent romantic comedy was wrong," will begin broadcasting. For fans who have loved this work for many years, this is the final part they have been waiting for, and they must be deeply moved.

The next in third place was "Flame Firefighters: Chapter 2. This anime adaptation of the popular comic "Flame Firefighters," which is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine, aired its first season from July to December 2019, and was very popular. As for this work, it is the start of its second season with a lot of time to spare, so to speak, and we can say that the ranking is very considered against a strong rival that was postponed from the spring anime. In the first season, various firefighter characters were introduced and various mysteries and intrigues were gradually revealed, and the second season will finally get to the heart of these mysteries.

These are the top three, but one of the most noteworthy works of the season is "Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (The Second Season)," which came in at No. 4. Nicknamed "Re:Zero," the first season of this work was aired from April to September 2016 in a two-cour format, and its strange development and brilliant characterization created a large fan base. After that, there were many requests for a sequel, and two OVAs were made and released in theaters, and finally the second season, a sequel, was supposed to be broadcast from this April. The second season was supposed to be broadcast in April, but due to the new coronavirus, the broadcast was postponed to the summer season, but it is definitely one of the highlights of this season.

Coming in at No. 5 with only one vote separating it from "Re-zero 2nd season" was "Mucho to Rosie no Maho Houhou Soudanhou Jimusho (2nd season)". Based on the comic of the same name that used to be serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, the first season was broadcast from August to October 2018 on BS SKY PerfecTV! Animax" and other online distribution services from August to October 2018. Despite not being broadcast on terrestrial television, the first season was highly acclaimed, and the second season will be broadcast and distributed in a similar fashion. We look forward to the second season in the same way.

Let's take a quick look at the top six and below: No. 6 "Kanojo, Orozamasu" is a romantic comedy based on a popular comic series currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. No. 7, "Demon King Academy no Shinraisha - The Founder of the Strongest Demon King in History Reincarnates and Attends a School for His Descendants," is a so-called "reincarnation story" based on a novel of the same title. There are not many fantasy works of this type of reincarnation this season, but this is a noteworthy one among them.

Eighth-placed "Uzaki-chan Wanna Play! is an anime adaptation of a unique comic that originated on Twitter. Will it be a breakout hit in anime as a slapstick comedy about a lonely college student and the "annoying" Uzaki-kawaii type, Hana Uzaki, who teases him? No. 9 " Monster Girl's Doctor" is a unique work set in a fantasy world of medicine. One of the charms of this work is that many kinds of monster girls appear in it.

Three other works tied for 10th place. Lapis Re:LiGHTs " is a TV anime that is a part of the idol project "Lapis Re :LiGHTs," which is based on "magic" and "idols. Dokyuu Kousou Henketsu Eguerosu" is a work full of eroticism that will probably be the most problematic work of this season. Also, "Detective Fugou Balance: UNLIMITED" is a mystery anime based on the best-selling novel "Detective Fugou" by Yasutaka Tsutsui. It is a highly anticipated work to be broadcast in Fuji Television's "Noitamina" slot.
