Once again, the wicked gathered in large numbers! The results of the "Spring 2020 Anime Popularity Poll," which had a lot of difficulties due to the Corona disaster!

Akiba Research Institute's official voting project "Spring 2020 Anime Popularity Poll" was held from June 25 to July 8, 2020. Let us announce the results.

This season has been affected by the voluntary curfew due to the spread of the new type of coronavirus. Many programs that were originally scheduled to be broadcast were postponed due to production reasons, or were broadcasted halfway through but were interrupted, resulting in a rather irregular broadcast situation. Therefore, even if we speak of "2020 Spring Anime," the nominated works varied in situation: some were able to complete all the episodes, while others were interrupted in the middle of their broadcasts. In such a difficult situation, what works were supported by Akiba Research Institute users?

First of all, as usual, let us introduce the top 10 works at once!

No. 1: Jyakami-chan Dropkick' (2,787 votes)
No. 2: 'Kaguya-sama ga Tetsukurasanai?Love Brain Battle of Geniuses' (260 votes)
No.3 : The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (NHK version) (213 votes)
No.4 : Kakushigoto (196 votes)
No.5 : Balloon Poem (167 votes)
No.6 : Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE 2nd Season (132 votes)
No.7 : Reincarnated as a villainess with only the doom flag of an Otome game... (124 votes)
No.8 : ULTRAMAN (111 votes)
Princess Connect! Re:Dive (100 votes)
No. 10: Hear Me, Wave (68 votes)

First, "Jyakamichan Dropkick' (Dash)" took first place by a landslide with a large number of votes. This work was also the winner of the "2020 Spring Anime Popularity Poll" held prior to the start of the spring season, and this time, too, it was voted as the clear winner by a large number of votes cast by the fan group known as "Evilists," who are ardent supporters of this work. It was the power of the "Evil Fellows" that encouraged the production of the second season of this work, and their solidarity was evident this time as well. This time, too, the power of the evil forces was clearly demonstrated. Of course, the work itself, while maintaining the taste of the first season, was even more "silly" in the good sense of the word. The work was as aggressively developed as ever, and it was surely enjoyed by fans and other viewers.

In a sense, the first-place winner "Jyakami-chan Drop Kick'" is special, but for a more realistic evaluation, we would like to focus on the works ranked second and below. In such a situation, the second place was taken by "Kaguya-sama ga Sesshirasai ka? ~In the first season, the main character Kaguya Shinomiya and Gyoko Shiragin had a heated battle to see who would be the first to tell her they liked her, and the futility of the battle and the cuteness of the two gained popularity. In this second season, the focus is on each of the student council members other than Kaguya and Shiragane, and it is impressive that each character's deeper humanity and relationships are depicted. The cuteness of Kaguya-sama has been further enhanced, and it is believed to have once again captivated many fans.

Next on the list in third place was the long-running science fiction work "The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (NHK version). Although "The Legend of the Galactic Heroes" is so well known that it no longer needs any explanation, it has been quite a while since it was adapted into an anime, the first time since 2000. The new series was originally broadcast or screened in several chapters, "KAIKOU-hen" and "SEIRAN-hen," starting in 2018, and began broadcasting on NHK E-television this spring. It is a work that has many fans, and it has been a new series for a long time. It was also highly acclaimed for its excellent animation by Production I.G., which placed it in a respectable third place.

The fourth-placed work, "Kakushigoto," is an anime adaptation of a popular comic series in Monthly Shonen Magazine, and its overall production quality is high, The use of Eiichi Otaki's "Kimi wa natu shiroi" as the theme song for the ED also evoked a sense of nostalgia. The fifth-place finisher, "Tamayomi," is based on a baseball comic serialized in Houbunsha's "Manga Time Kirara Forward," but it is a very well-made sports work that is distinctly different from the "Kirara-kei" works known for their "loose and fluffy" style. The detailed depiction of baseball that cannot be underestimated and the friendship among the girls in the baseball club left a refreshing impression.

In sixth place was "Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE 2nd Season," another Gunpla-based anime work that has been a long time in coming. Originally a sequel to a work distributed on YouTube's "Gundam Channel" and other channels, this work depicts the world two years after "Gundam Build Divers," which aired in 2018 and gained popularity. However, this one was affected by the corona virus, and only five episodes (episodes 14 to 18) were broadcast, with the broadcast postponed after episode 19. The fact that the series was still so popular is indeed a testament to the popularity of the series.

Seventh-placed "I 've Been Reincarnated as a Villainous Daughter with Only the Flag of Doom from an Otome Game" is a story about a reincarnation in another world based on a novel, which has seen a sharp decline in the number of episodes this season. As the title suggests, it is a funny story about a high school girl who is reincarnated as a villainous daughter in an Otome game and struggles to prevent her downfall. It was highly acclaimed in this season of the Corona disaster. The star-studded voice cast may be one of the reasons for the film's high rating.

No. 8 "ULTRAMAN" is a terrestrial broadcast of a 3DCG work that was previously distributed on Netflix in 2019. The highly anticipated 3DCG work, which makes full use of motion pictures and is directed by Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, received high marks for its unpredictable and thrilling plot development and action scenes that can only be performed in 3DCG.

Re:Dive" at No. 9 was an animation based on the world of the game of the same name. Re:Dive" is an anime adaptation of the world of the game of the same name. Anime works based on games tend to receive harsh evaluations, but this work has a good balance between the comedy in the relaxed fantasy world and the occasional battle scenes, and many people who have not played the game find it enjoyable enough to enjoy. Directed by Takaomi Kanazaki of "Konosuba! was also a major factor. It is a rare good work in this genre.

Finally, "Nami yo Kikimete" at No. 10 is based on a comic serialized in "Afternoon" magazine. This unique work depicts the daily life and struggles of the main character, Minare, in the world of radio, which has rarely been seen before. It is a humanistic drama, and the fact that Sunrise was in charge of its production was also a topic of conversation.

The above is a rough description of the 10 best works. As mentioned above, there were only a few works that were broadcasted as scheduled until the end of the spring 2020 anime season, but all but one of the works in the top 10 were broadcasted in their entirety. In this difficult situation, that alone is worthy of praise, but all of the works had solid content, and they all kept us anime fans entertained during the period of self-restraint from going out, when "STAY HOME" was being called for. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of them.
