mu-so, a wireless music system for high-resolution sound sources, from Naim Audio! All-in-one type with integrated speakers and amplifier

mu-so, a wireless-enabled music system capable of network playback of high-resolution sound sources, is now available from Naim Aduio in the UK. The distributor is Modernity.

This is an all-in-one type music system that combines two 3-way speakers consisting of a tweeter, a screener, and a woofer, a digital amplifier, and a 32-bit audio processor, all in a single housing.

It is equipped with both wired and wireless network interfaces and supports UPnP and AirPlay, allowing streaming playback of music data stored on a smartphone or NAS.

In addition to network connectivity, the unit also features analog and digital audio inputs. It has one analog (3.5mm stereo mini) and two digital (S/PDIF optical, USB) channels, which can be directly connected to a player and used like an active speaker. The USB port is compatible with iPhone and USB memory devices.

The dial on the top surface of the main unit is a touch screen compatible volume knob. Touch operation enables connection settings for network and peripheral devices, as well as playback and song selection skipping. A free dedicated "naim" application (iOS/Android compatible) is also available to perform the same operations from a smartphone or tablet. A dedicated remote control is also included.

Supported formats include WAV/AIFF/FLAC (up to 24bit/192kHz), ALAC (up to 24bit/96kHz), MP3 (up to 16bit/48kHz/320kbps), AAC (up to 16bit/48kHz/320kbps), OGG/WMA (up to 16bit/48kHz). 48kHz). In addition, Internet radio (vTuner) can be received. Note that playback via wireless network is limited to 24bit/48kHz.

Network interfaces are wired LAN (10Mbps/100Mbps), wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11b/g), and Bluetooth (AAC/aptX codec support).

Speakers include a 25mm tweeter, 60mm scorcher, and H70 x W135mm woofer. The playback frequency response of the units is not disclosed. The digital amplifier output is 450W overall (6 units of 75W each). The main unit measures 628 (W) x 122 (H) x 256 (D) mm and weighs 13 kg. Accessories include a dedicated remote control, power cord, and grille cover.

Incidentally, OrioSpec is displaying the actual unit until the end of this week, and a mini listening session for "mu-so" is scheduled for November 22. So far, the product has only been sold at the Apple Store, and this is almost the first time the actual device will be on display, so if you are interested, why not stop by?

We had a quick listen, and the wide listening area is appealing. Music spread throughout the room, and could be heard reasonably well from anywhere on the sales floor. On the other hand, when listening face to face up close, the sound is a bit flat. It would be good to place them in the living room of a family room or in a store as background music. It is a very attractive music system for listening to music while doing something. The room tuning will bring out even more of its potential. Rather than attempting to clearly render the details of the sound, this model is designed to provide just the right amount of information so that you can listen to it for a long time and not get tired of listening to it.
