Umaru-chan" is an everyday comedy centering on the "dried-up sister" Umaru Tsuchima, who is a talented and impeccable high school girl on the outside but spends her time at home playing games and reading manga, and her caring older brother Taihei. The fourth volume of the original comic, released on December 19, has sold over 500,000 copies.

Details of the anime version have not yet been decided, but an official website (http://umaru-ani.me/) was opened at the same time as the announcement. On the site, Umaru's various facial expressions, created by the original author, Sankaku Head, appear randomly each time the site is accessed. The site also features a commentary and illustrations for the anime adaptation.
